He's had the kind of numbers and health you want going into a contract year. A nice handful of options. From what I'm reading, front runners are Lakers, Bulls, Knicks: all NBA flagships. He can handle the media in any of them. Hard to see him go to a smaller market, the big city helps his bottom line too. Can he play for
or Thibs though? What is the best kind of coach for a guy like Melo anyway?
I really can't fault him for getting his money in the first place. Now he's entering his 30s, we'll see if he thinking about history. You know his old Cuse coach wants him to get some rings. Can he get there with the Knicks?
Don't know much about the Bulls but my buddy from Chicago says Thibs would definitely get on Melo if he's not playing how he should and, unlike here, Thibs has the backing of the higher ups and won't have to take it easier on some guys more than others for fear of being fired.
if melo doesn't go to chicago he just proves that he has always been afraid of working on the uphill side of the court. melo is going to look bad except in one scenario which is offering to play for what he is actually worth which is 12-13 million a year. he owes new yorkers that and big time.
big time character check for carmelo anthony.
No player owes any team anything, gtfooh. If he was to take 12 million, why the hell would he do it here and sit on his hands and wait and see what this ****ty organization is going to do? If you're gonna take a 8 million dollar paycut, you make sure you go to the best possible team available.
have you considered that the organization is ****ty now because dolan interfered with walsh's work and brought melo here which has prolonged the ****tiness? does melo have any culpability here, any at all?
if he wanted to go to a team and be a contender he had his chance to wait for free agency back in 2011. now this team has to prove it is serious about winning? are YOU serious?
And you don't think that the new CB played into it at all? And even if he has some culpability, people learn and grow in life. Look at "the decision", how stupid was that? Don't expect more from these guys then you should expects from most humans let alone young uneducated ballplayers.
Also, if the knicks did not make all the other dumb moves, they could have actually surrounded him with a winning team even after he raped the poor franchise.
He has the make the best move for him now to win a chip. That is not NY, its Chicago. As I have asked, would you be upset if he won it all in Chicago? I would because I hate Chicago but it won't be because I am overcome by Melo hate.
At least I respect that you want him here for 12-13. TKF does not want him here for anything. You are obviously not the same person and though you can't get over the forced trade and will never forgive him for that, at least you are overall more logical than ...
i can't speak for tkf. i would not be upset if he won in chicago but i think my lack of upsetedness is in direct proportion to the unlikelihood that chicago wins a title with him on that team. i think melo has a long way to go before he plays like a 2.5 option or 3rd option. he's really a mark aguirre at this point. if he sees himself as more than that we will start hearing terms like "disgruntled" no matter where he ends up. i just don't think he has the capacity to actual get it. he is dripping with conceitedness.
by the way that's my favorite word-- "disgruntled"-- for overrated nba players who don't want to accept who they really are. marbury was disgruntled. there are others of course.
carmelo was a bad player for the price we paid to acquire him. dolan helped make him a bad player. back then if he came as a free agent he would have been a better player than he is now, much better. nowadays he would be a good player at 12-13 million if he wants to help the knicks get a shot at a title. "putting the team on his back" ie "heroball" is a fool's gold fantasy.
Well ... I certainly don't think that he can win unless he modifies his game. I don't think it needs much modification but the ones that I previously outlined would be a great start (47%, 5 assists). He does take too many shots that seem conceited / hero shots. He gets way more assists in the first half than the second (e.g. last night, 5 in the first and 0 in the second - I predicted this in the game thread at the end of the first half).
I don't think he is a bad guy and hope that he can make these changes. He will need to change his mind set to do this. Hopefully this train wreck was a humbling experience.
Many players think they are better than they are and therefore don't pass more (Ewing - lets not get into an argument about how great Ewing was, that is not the point. The point is that he was disgruntled and thought that he was better than he was (which is why he was such an unwilling passer)).
so here is what phil is thinking ....
