Carmelo Anthony has the rare ability to life his game to any ocassion. We would be crazy not to acquire just two players who can hang with him on the court.... one a guard and the other a 6'10 forward with swag.
He would be crazy to leave 30M on the table in the worlds largest media market.
Win here and you are set for life.
we are winning nothing with him here. history is not on his side, nor is the present situation... unless he asks to be paid 12-13 million a year annually and have someone take over the team and put him in his place.
11 years of history says this is a winning player. Seems like your confused about your history
the league is bloated with too many teams. that is a fact.
the talent pool as a result of the bloating has become diluted. that is a fact.
the playoff format allows 16 of 30 teams in guaranteeing that making the playoffs is merely a sign of mediocrity for 8 of the teams who get defeated, and a sign of above average for the remaining 8 teams. that is a fact.
melo has made it out of the first round only twice in 10 attempts, which means that his history is one that is defined by the aforementioned mediocrity. that is a fact.
mediocre teams led by mediocre players are rarely going to make it to the second round and beyond. that is a fact.
i have just given you facts and salient points.
your turn.
How about the Nuggets had missed the playoffs for 8 straight years prior to their drafting Melo. They won 26 more games his first year on the team. His second year the team was eliminated by the Spurs in the first round. The Spurs went on to win the title that year. Two years later the Nuggets again lost to the Spurs and they again went onto win the title. The next year the nuggets lost to the lakers who went onto to the finals and lost to the Celtics. The next year his team went to the conference finals. Nothing about that resume in the West says mediocre. Neither does all of the recognition he has gotten for his play.
everything is relative. that too is a fact. when socrates had his shackled removed after having been unjustly accused of corrupting the youth and thrown into prison, he mused how the absence of pain in and of itself is a pleasure.
carmelo anthony coming to the nuggets after years of nugget futility and then not making the playoffs is improvement from bad to not quite so bad.
everything else is excuses and justifications. his record of playoff futility is damning, not praiseworthy.
behold:
2005 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2006 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2007 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2008 playoffs 4-0 1st round
2009 playoffs win two series with billups and then 4-2 in wcf
2010 playoffs 4-2 1st round
2011 playoffs 4-0 1st round
2012 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2013 playoffs 4-2 win over rondoless celtics before succumbing to pacers 4-2
note that the first round playoff losses were annihilations-- not even competitive.
Cool. I thought when you went Greek you leaned toward the Jimmy The Greek mindset.
jimmy the greek? that poor soul was a victim of political correctness. how about all those first round annihilations?
Dont know why I'm bothering but here you go:
05: Denver # 7 seed lost to San An # 2 seed. No way were the Nuggs winning this one
06: Denver # 3 seed lost to LA Clippers # 3 seed. Just looking at the seeding, one would expect the Nuggs to win. However, take a look at the Nuggs roster and one has to wonder how the hell Karl got that team into the 3rd seed. Besides Melo, the next best players were Ruben Patterson, Earl Boykins, Andre Miller, K Mart after about 3 surgeries and Camby.... The Clips were the better team that year in my opinion
07: Denver # 6 seed lost to the Spurs # 3 seed.
08: Denver # 8 seed lost to the Lakers # 1 seed.
10: Denver #4 seed lost to the Jazz # 5 seed. This one is on Melo. Shuld have beaten the Jazz that year.
11: NY # 6 seed lost to the Celts #6 seed. No way were we beating the Celts, especially after Billups and Stat got hurt.
Regardless of the points I made, you will ignore them and continue to post in a vacuum when it comes to Melo...
your excuses are in vain. i gave context so how is that in a vacuum? more to the point, getting into the playoffs most of the time as a lower seed in a league that is bloated is not anything to boast about and getting annihilated as a result only cements how overrated anthony is and always has been.
how about all those first round annihilations?
The above is what you said, and I responded. Now you are changing the goal posts and want to take a dig at Melo for not doing better in the regular season? Stick to the script!!! Who on that list, other than the Jazz was his team supposed to beat?
BTW, the West was monster during Melo's stint with the Nuggs. The Suns, Mavs, Spurs, Rockets and Lakers were elite most of those years.
Just to give you an idea, the '07 season:
Mavs 67 wins
Suns 61 wins
Spurs 58 wins
Rockets 52 wins
Jazz 51 wins......Jazz won 51 games and still couldn't get home court advantage in the first round.
