Not every elite athlete, with the focus on his productivity, can function in New York. Carmelo Anthony has the rare ability to life his game to any ocassion. We would be crazy not to acquire just two players who can hang with him on the court.... one a guard and the other a 6'10 forward with swag.

He would be crazy to leave 30M on the table in the worlds largest media market.

Win here and you are set for life.

we are winning nothing with him here. history is not on his side, nor is the present situation... unless he asks to be paid 12-13 million a year annually and have someone take over the team and put him in his place.

11 years of history says this is a winning player. Seems like your confused about your history

the league is bloated with too many teams. that is a fact.
the talent pool as a result of the bloating has become diluted. that is a fact.
the playoff format allows 16 of 30 teams in guaranteeing that making the playoffs is merely a sign of mediocrity for 8 of the teams who get defeated, and a sign of above average for the remaining 8 teams. that is a fact.

melo has made it out of the first round only twice in 10 attempts, which means that his history is one that is defined by the aforementioned mediocrity. that is a fact.

mediocre teams led by mediocre players are rarely going to make it to the second round and beyond. that is a fact.

i have just given you facts and salient points.

your turn.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

unless you want to ensure your team always has a winning record and goes to the playoffs. Then its actually a good idea.

Yup, if you give yourself a chance by getting to the playoffs, you never know what can happen. Just like Dallas. No one said you could build around Dirk either.

dirk elevated his game and the mavs were willing to go way over the cap to win when that cba was not as punitive as this one is.

How about the Nuggets had missed the playoffs for 8 straight years prior to their drafting Melo. They won 26 more games his first year on the team. His second year the team was eliminated by the Spurs in the first round. The Spurs went on to win the title that year. Two years later the Nuggets again lost to the Spurs and they again went onto win the title. The next year the nuggets lost to the lakers who went onto to the finals and lost to the Celtics. The next year his team went to the conference finals. Nothing about that resume in the West says mediocre. Neither does all of the recognition he has gotten for his play.

dk7th. - carmelo is frightened of doing hard work on the defensive end. it's unimaginable that he will not balk having to work under thibs.

Interesting

So you think the NBA leader in minutes played, responsibility accepted and most pressure for winning to be a recalcitrant issue for a former Knicks assistant coach?

Why?

everything is relative. that too is a fact. when socrates had his shackles removed after having been unjustly accused of corrupting the youth and thrown into prison, he mused how the absence of pain in and of itself is a pleasure.

carmelo anthony coming to the nuggets after years of nugget futility and then not making the playoffs is improvement from bad to not quite so bad.

everything else is excuses and justifications. his record of playoff futility is damning, not praiseworthy.

Did he really say that? Similar to the Melo is fat and is going to break down because he wears body armour comments. Instead of breaking down the guy wins player of the month every April.

he has a penchant of conserving his energy on the uphill side of the court so he can slalom on the downhill side. if that were not the case he would demand the privilege of guarding the opposing teams best wing player. but most of the time he doesn't, won't or probably just can't. he is overpowered by legit pfs and too slow to stay in front of sfs and fight over the picks. these are facts.

thibs will not kowtow to anthony. anthony knows that. chicago front office knows that and you better believe paxson has thibs back over there in spite of shedding deng. no way in hell melo goes to chicago. bad fit, especially with rose. in fact melo at this point is a bad fit no matter where he goes. the league has figured this out.

that is a fact. good news: even if he demands a trade from here there will be no takers, which means the knick front office can dictate terms to him. 12-13 million a year will be fair.

Dont know why I'm bothering but here you go:

05: Denver # 7 seed lost to San An # 2 seed. No way were the Nuggs winning this one
06: Denver # 3 seed lost to LA Clippers # 3 seed. Just looking at the seeding, one would expect the Nuggs to win. However, take a look at the Nuggs roster and one has to wonder how the hell Karl got that team into the 3rd seed. Besides Melo, the next best players were Ruben Patterson, Earl Boykins, Andre Miller, K Mart after about 3 surgeries and Camby.... The Clips were the better team that year in my opinion
07: Denver # 6 seed lost to the Spurs # 3 seed.
08: Denver # 8 seed lost to the Lakers # 1 seed.
10: Denver #4 seed lost to the Jazz # 5 seed. This one is on Melo. Shuld have beaten the Jazz that year.
11: NY # 6 seed lost to the Celts #6 seed. No way were we beating the Celts, especially after Billups and Stat got hurt.

Regardless of the points I made, you will ignore them and continue to post in a vacuum when it comes to Melo...

carmelo anthony coming to the nuggets after years of nugget futility and then not making the playoffs is improvement from bad to not quite so bad.

everything else is excuses and justifications. his record of playoff futility is damning, not praiseworthy.

behold:

2005 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2006 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2007 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2008 playoffs 4-0 1st round
2009 playoffs win two series with billups and then 4-2 in wcf
2010 playoffs 4-2 1st round
2011 playoffs 4-0 1st round
2012 playoffs 4-1 1st round
2013 playoffs 4-2 win over rondoless celtics before succumbing to pacers 4-2

note that the first round playoff losses were annihilations-- not even competitive.

Cool. I thought when you went Greek you leaned toward the Jimmy The Greek mindset.

jimmy the greek? that poor soul was a victim of political correctness. how about all those first round annihilations?

Regardless of the points I made, you will ignore them and continue to post in a vacuum when it comes to Melo...

your excuses are in vain. i gave context so how is that in a vacuum? more to the point, getting into the playoffs most of the time as a lower seed in a league that is bloated is not anything to boast about and getting annihilated as a result only cements how overrated anthony is and always has been.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Seems like your confused about your history

the league is bloated with too many teams. that is a fact.
the talent pool as a result of the bloating has become diluted. that is a fact.
the playoff format allows 16 of 30 teams in guaranteeing that making the playoffs is merely a sign of mediocrity for 8 of the teams who get defeated, and a sign of above average for the remaining 8 teams. that is a fact.

melo has made it out of the first round only twice in 10 attempts, which means that his history is one that is defined by the aforementioned mediocrity. that is a fact.

mediocre teams led by mediocre players are rarely going to make it to the second round and beyond. that is a fact.

i have just given you facts and salient points.

your turn.

Context? You said a 26 game improvement in one year was going from bad to not as bad. A 26 game improvement in an 82 game season.

The above is what you said, and I responded. Now you are changing the goal posts and want to take a dig at Melo for not doing better in the regular season? Stick to the script!!! Who on that list, other than the Jazz was his team supposed to beat?

BTW, the West was monster during Melo's stint with the Nuggs. The Suns, Mavs, Spurs, Rockets and Lakers were elite most of those years.

Just to give you an idea, the '07 season:

Mavs 67 wins
Suns 61 wins
Spurs 58 wins
Rockets 52 wins
Jazz 51 wins......Jazz won 51 games and still couldn't get home court advantage in the first round.

Why?

he has a penchant of conserving his energy on the uphill side of the court so he can slalom on the downhill side. if that were not the case he would demand the privilege of guarding the opposing teams best wing player. but most of the time he doesn't, won't or probably just can't. he is overpowered by legit pfs and too slow to stay in front of sfs and fight over the picks. these are facts.

thibs will not kowtow to anthony. anthony knows that. chicago front office knows that and you better believe paxson has thibs back over there in spite of shedding deng. no way in hell melo goes to chicago. bad fit, especially with rose. in fact melo at this point is a bad fit no matter where he goes. the league has figured this out.

that is a fact. good news: even if he demands a trade from here there will be no takers, which means the knick front office can dictate terms to him. 12-13 million a year will be fair.

I guarantee one thing, Melo plays a lot harder than the guy you are all broken up about being traded..

@HerringWSJ: Knicks have shot 47.6% off of Melo's passes this season. Oklahoma City has shot 42.9% off Durant's passes. The Knicks spot-up guys can shoot.
