It's not about what is expected of melo, I know he won't sit there and say I want 20 mil a year instead of 29. It's on the Knicks management to take a hard stance with him and say it's 20 mil or you pack your bags. If we lose Melo then we lose him, but any salary cap sport is about getting bang for your buck and you're not getting that with 34 year old melo at 30m. Do I expect melo to take a paycut? Absolutely not. Do I think if he truly cared about winning he would accept a little less money when told by management that was his only chance to stay a Knick? Yes, but he doesn't, so we'll be better off just letting him walk. You say the players you mentioned only took less money because they could make more money in endorsements if they win the championship. Well guess what, if Melo took less money he could win a championship and make the same money in endorsements as a result. After all, it's legacies and winning that build up endorsements in reality, so it would be nice if melo could realize that a sacrifice he makes in the short-run would be a win-win in the long run, with more money and a stronger legacy when he retires as a result (and elevated status, we all know melo loves his celebrity status). If Melo really puts on a show this year, such as a STRONG performance in a long ECF or Finals then I'm alright with him getting all this money. But until he proves we can have real success with him as the best player on the team I don't think that commitment is wise.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said here. I see the value in Melo, but I don't want to be paying him $30mil a year when he's 34, 35 (or even 31!). This new CBA is brutal, and we're coming up for a new one in few years- who knows if that will be even worse (hello hard cap!). I don't think Melo is evil for trying to maximize his earnings, but I do hope he is willing to take a bit less to increase our ability to sign other players.

can you tell me, what is the value you see in "melo"? just curious... what value do you place on him?

melo says he wants to be a knick but then also says he wants to be wined and dined.

so which team out there is going to wine and dine him if at the end of the day he is going to sign with the knicks.

paul opted out but then told everyone he's re-signing so there was no visits to other teams. melo wants those visits.

it's amazing really. right before the season starts he's talking about visiting other teams. lol. most guys would just say "i'll deal with that at the end of the year, my focus right now is the knicks and the playoffs". but this rocket surgeon says i can't wait to see what's out there.

it's all good tho. you'll still have bargs lol...

btw, just 4 months ago, nobody thought dwight would pass up the money and extra year either.

dolan deserves a guy like this.

SPOOGE. Not SPLOOGE. Jesus your Engrish sucks dude. You really got bamboozled on those Rosetta Stone rip offs.

More a downside to keeping Melo. We have seen that plan in Denver and seen it here. Same results. I would rather be mediocre with upside and hope then mediocre with the outcome thats easy to see.

Got us into the playoffs in the lockout shortened season with great play in that end of season win streak. Was a huge part in last seasons regular season record, including both win streaks.

You can say he hasn't gotten us far enough into the playoffs, but his record to date is pretty much the same as CP3's, yet no one goes round saying CP3 is awful, a loser, worthless etc.

I don't delude myself that he's the greatest player in the league, but he's pretty good and has value.

You can't be serious? How many millions should he have? Is 100 million enough, 200 million enough or mabe 500 million for bouncing a ball! Its all on Melo. Just the distraction they need all season like he did to Denver. Ship him out!

Ummm there is a new CBA now u can't do what the Lakers did anymore. No more sign and trades, no more mid level exceptioon. If we were playing under those rules fine but we arent. If melo gets a Max deal its over. We wont win a title for at least the duration of hi deal. Most likely he will end up killing the next 5 after his contract because of draft pick trades

if you think carmelo Got us to the playoffs, then you must accept that his less than stellar play is what kept us from advancing.. and for the record, two years ago, if not for jeremy lin, knicks don't make playoffs

I don't see the value in paying 20+ mil to a guy with all his flaws...

You can say he hasn't gotten us far enough into the playoffs, but his record to date is pretty much the same as CP3's, yet no one goes round saying CP3 is awful, a loser, worthless etc.

carmelo has been out of the first round twice in 10 appearances..

Chris paul has been out of the first round twice in 5 appearances..

Big difference.. add to that chris paul is just flat out better, and you see why he gets more rope.. but if he keeps losing, expect some backlash, you can bet on that..

The only way we'd have a future is if some of our youngins develop real quick and become significant contributors. But then, sadly, they'll become casualties to a trade to bring in someone that supposedly helps us re-sign Melo in the first place.

Basically we would have to fall backwards into 2nd round All Stars like 3 times

It doesn't. This origination is inept and there is no sense in having any championship aspirations

The problem is the media are clowns just like Melo or they have been ordered by Dolan to dance around the real issue which is the Cap.

Unfortunately the story will continue to be Can the Knicks keep Melo. Then when he is extended for 5yrs $20+ per Dolan looks like a hero

Then we all go back to complaining about 1st and 2nd round exits because the best we could do is James Flight White around Melo

the melo era in new york was doomed from the moment melo and dolan took a bubble bath together and then made out on the heart-shaped revolving bed. the two really are made for each other. just look at the trail of destruction he has left in his wake.

i even feel sorry for steve mills a little bit... actually no i don't.

i am looking forward to being entertained by the farce that is about to unfold. it isn't about winning for me anymore, it's about being "entertained" by this team.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

You'd think that with our Dolan history, anyone is tradeable. I couldn't help myself, although it's stupid when we don't even have our own picks to start sucking all of the sudden. But...

We could call up Pistons and in exchange for Melo we ask for a package involving either Drummond or Monroe, a 1st round pick, a 2nd and Caldwell Pope. They're getting close to having to choose between either Drummond or Monroe and who they want to throw money at.

Then we go on ahead and trade these guys for yoothier players/picks:

- Ray Ray, he's gonna be pissed and lazy that we're rebuilding.
- Tyson, wouldn't mind keeping him, but he has some value I suppose
- Lastly but most surely, we send JR on his way. Rockets have plenty of intriguing PGs to trade for.

We promote Shump big time. Develop Tyler and Murry. Let Prigo and Beno run point unselfishly while Murry learns from them. Wait for 2015 while rooting for likeable young men giving effort.

Our team would be

Starting 5:
Monroe/Drummond
Bargs
Shump
Pope
Beno

Bench:
THJ
Prigo
Tyler
Murry
MWP
STAT
K-Mart

+ whatever we get from trading TC, Felton, JR Smithers (hopefully yeilding a better PG and a legit SF/PF type player a la Ill Wil.)
