You said he was a fool for making such a guarantee. THAT WAS WHAT I WROTE.

From that you somehow concluded I was ok with him smoking weed and now this stuff about a 4year deal, WTF man stop skimming bits and pieces and read all of a post before responding. It would avoid awkward moments like this this with posts going back and forth as it needlessly.

You have a short memory. The last time we had a discussion about JR was when the first report about him getting a 4 year deal came out. Your response to my being Po'd about it was to call me a "hater" for being upset. I asked you repeatedly if giving him a shorter deal was an insult. As far as I can tell you still haven't answered the question. I remember this because once again you're calling me a hater. Not skimming anything, JR is all you seem to want to talk about and when you do it nothing but insults. My previous response answers why I believe it was foolish to guarantee a title given his track record.

SO your talking about A different thread entirely???? How was I supposed to know that? As far as the contract, I don't fully remember my post but, I thought 2years would have been for the best. I think it's too many years committed to a guy who hasn't shown he's fully committed to the Knicks.

Hater was too strong of a term, sorry about that. Disliking JR isn't that hard,....actually finding reasons to keep liking him is probably harder. I just think he brings more good to the table than the bad. Its just that when he does something bad...its really a head shaker. The game suspension in the playoffs was dumb as shyt but, did we get on starks as hard for headbutting Reggie Miller or the other crazy shyte Starks would do. Its really seems like how much one likes a players determines how much negativity they get when the mess up.

That's cool. My mistake for not pointing out this was from a previous discussion. I thought you would have remembered. My bad. You didn't say anything about getting busted in the first post in this thread so I didn't know that you thought it was "dumb shyt", I should have asked.

Its hard supporting JR because in the back your your mind you wonder when he is going to F up. With Starks, not as much, he wasn't in the league as long and didn't have the checkered past that JR did, to put it mildly. Starks was more of a team first player IMO. I got PO'd when he heat butted Reggie and some of the other stuff he did but I believe from the start he gave his heart and soul to the team and I can't say the same for JR at times.

I was upset with game 7 of the finals but I hold Riley just as responsible for not telling him to drive more to get his confidence back. I'm keeping my expectations very low this season for JR because I was already wrong about him once. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong. He has the skills to do it, he just needs the self discipline to go out and deliver.

Vehicular manslaughter aside, Starks vs JR in the non-internet age had very few issues we know about.

Starks had a few issues regarding the team in the sense of being a hot head, few grandmother funerals to attend, guarantee win promises but bringing his golf clubs on road trips anyway.........No big deal.

Time has been kind to Starks and his legacy.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

We're both cool....that's what up :)

whats worse is we had Orlando (an even better shooter) just rotting on the bench but Riley never played him.

Prototypical differences in the path to the pros.
Starks did it the hard way, Safeway, undrafted, CBA, WBL, fighting and head butting his way through 13 years.

JR comes out of high school and has NBA life on a plate in comparison.

Exactly. Those minor quibbles aside from Starks, don't think he's ever been known to drink or smoke weed or party much either. As far as it's been known, he's also been married to the same woman since 1986 with 3 kids.

JR, 2 daughters and well...doesn't seem like he's settling down in his personal life anytime soon.

Blackman is still upset about not being given a chance, can't blame him. I think part of it was (if I remember correctly) that Blackman wasn't playing well leading up to the playoffs. Riley later admitted that he regretted not giving him a chance but he still has to blame himself for letting Starks jack up one 3 after another.

Don't think John Starks was ever arrested, pleaded guilty to anything, ever battered his wife, or tested positive for anything.

Yup, I think when you look at JR's life compared to John Starks 48 years of life...he is indeed a choir boy.

All right there for the taking. Love, money adulation and more money!

Celebrity row in the background....including C.K., Starks, Stephen Wright, Patrick Ewing, Bernard King, Phil Collins, Chris Noth, Diddy, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, Jake Gyllenhaal—and of course, passionate Knicks fan and director-turned-pumpkin Spike Lee.

I really don't think so either but, like I said, these days of social media, we know more than we ever would have in past years

yeah, it makes me think of Dave Chappell's Charlie Murphy's true hollywood story with Rick James when Rick says: They never should have given you (*&^%$'s money
