pierce is by far a superior player. he always had playmaking skills off the dribble even before allen and garnett came along. i love how now we need to compare the pre-2007 pierce to carmelo. if carmelo had ever developed the skills that pierce has we would not be in the fix we are in right now. but melo's footwork is just plain bad, and his ball-handling skills are mostly non-existent when it comes to keeping the head up and finding open teammates. these holes in his game will always hinder him from meshing or making others around him better... two things pierce does effortlessly.

The same Paul Pierce who was sitting in the lottery along with the Knicks?

The same Paul Pierce that needed a prime KG and one of the greatest three point shooter ever to win.

LOL prime KG.... KG was very good, but no longer in his prime at that time...

how about, they needed him.. they came and joined him...

Why didn't Paul Pierce use his superior skills to get his team to the playoffs? Did his superior skills fade when Walker left then return when Allen and Garnett arrived?

what did boston have to give up to get pierce? you see boston didn't have to trade to get pierce, therefore that allowed him to get "help" but make no mistake pierce was no playoff flop like carmelo, that is the difference.. Help means nothing if you are no help.... pierce was finals MVP..stud...

carmelo forced his way here ruining any chance at "help" again, it falls on him.. but keep deflecting to pierce.. I love how you make our arguments for us..

wow. Just wow. You really don't have a clue. Melo forced his way here because we had help already. Not his fault. Pierce a stud finals MVP? Funny how great players can help a lottery player look better. Looking back at history, its almost an insult to say Pierce is in the same sentence as Melo. He was a lottery player all until prime KG and Allen came to the rescue.

for the tenth time amare is not "the help" for carmelo. he was here first. amazing how the way you put it immediately plays into the whole "displacement theory" i have been pointing out since the trade. melo comes at the expense of gallo, chandler, mozgov, felton. his arrival immediately marginalizes both stat and fields. his arrival pushes d'antoni out and walsh to "retire." not done yet-- he can't abide playing with lin so lin goes too.

great players are supposed to be able to mesh and above that make others better. stoudemire doesn't do that but at least he is a decent pick and roll player. so why would melo want to come to this team unless he doesn't recognize that neither he nor stoudemire have the ability to mesh or make others better?

yet he did come here regardless of what was crystal clear from the onset in december 2010-- and now we are hearing how he needs help. ridiculous

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

how did they help pierce look great? did garnett take pierce hands and help him dribble and shoot? did they move his feet to where he defended kobe so well? come on how you sound...

Melo forced his way here because we had help already. Not his fault.

funny you say that, because what was he and amare's record playing together when he first got here? were they not eliminated by boston and the following year the heat? he had help right? but I know amare got injured, as did billups..

again, bad luck right?

I guess thats why Minn got rid of KG lol. Because in his 11 years he only got past the first round once just like Melo. And he missed the playoffs 3 years in a row. Just look at history man. Put you hate of Melo to the side just for a second. Look at supporting cast of different stars. Look at Pierce, KG, Wade, Kobe when they didn't have other all-stars alongside them. Look how kobe missed the playoffs, never got past the first round without Shaq or Pau. KG never did without 2 other all-stars next to him. Wade never did without Shaq, or his crew now. Durant this season. Lebron is one of very few exceptions. If your expectation is that he should be good enough to get to the ECF without another big time star then thats on you to adjust you expectations. My expectations of him moving us in the right direction and winning a playoff series were dead on. I can't ask anymore of him until he gets his Westbrook, Pau Gasol, KG, whoever. It was supposed to be Amare, and its not, so adjust your standards a little bit.

We have no money but we do have tradeable assets. The transaction could occur within the framework of a trade.

i'll go for monta, bynum is dead log in water,

monta had a decent shooting year this year, he can definitely drop the buckets,

between monta jr and melo, we shouldn't have a problem scoring the ball,

then you just have to add a grunt at center, someone that will do the dirty work, get his hands dirty,

and you have a contender

I love the way Ellis attacks the rim and he could also play spot minutes at the point making our lineup a bit bitter as a bonus

Amare was already getting run down and Fields was hitting the wall before the trade even happened. Did Melo make Fields so bad that he cant even play well on the Raptors?

Dolan got rid of Walsh and Melo getting rid of Lin is hearsay but I dont know what went down so I cant really deny at this point. You're right about him getting rid of D'antoni though. Cant defend that.

Now I'll actually agree with you about that Melo wasnt much help this post season either. He didnt really play well enough to be saying he needs someone to help him. The fact still remains that Amare WAS supposed to be a huge part of this team (especially with that contract) and hes merely an after thought now. The most he can be is "help" at this point, regardless of who was here first.

Those 2 were supposed to play together and be our 2 guys when the trade first happened. Amare is always injured yet very few want to acknowledge his bad contract.

My bad, though. I should have clarified that from the organizations standpoint, Amare was supposed to be Melo's help. I've posted plenty of times before that I was no happy with how Melo played in the playoffs and I never let him off hook. I did cut him some slack for his poor shooting after hearing about his shoulder injury though but I agreed with others that he needed to find other ways to contribute.

I think all they're saying is give Melo a teammate of that caliber. Give him a KG, a Westbrook, a Wade and lets see how he does. There is no doubt in my mind that Melo still puts on his sh** show that he did this year in the playoffs with a 2nd guy on his team, things would be different.

I think we should bunt. Did someone already say that? I didn't have the patience to read the whole thread.

His help was supposed to be Amare if im not mistaken. Carmelo didnt ruin that either. Amare just cant stay healthy.

WELL FOR 11 years running he just has bad luck then...

even more reason to get rid of him....

It was supposed to be Amare, and its not, so adjust your standards a little bit.

you keep bringing up player after player... well this is the difference all of those players.. KG, pierce, paul, durant, lebron were all decorated NBA players... or Consistent star playoff performers!

carmelo has been neither!! so to say he needs help is ridiculous.. He needs to be help first.... second he forced a trade here, if he was too dumb to see how this team was being gutted to get his dumb azz here then again, that is his fault and stupidity.. why is this so hard to see..

We are not going anywhere with this fools gold player.. and it has nothing to do with what KG needed, pierce, lebron, those guys have rings!!!! end of story.. either they were smart enough to collude with the right team, or lucky enough to be traded to a great situation.. either way, they got to the promise land..

Carmelo for 11 years has not been good enough and or just so unlucky.. either way, I don't care, he is an overrated player, making 20 mil a year and is in this position by his own doing.. End of story...

Just do me a favor and reserve judgment on his success in playoffs until he gets someone of Westbrook, KG, Gasol, etc caliber, because thats what every other player needed. He should not be treated as the exception. And don't blame him for the Denver trade. He didn't make the trade, nor could he demand who the Nuggets asked for in return. I would have done the same as him. I wouldn't want to go into a lockout without a contract, so how could we expect him to do that too?

wow. Just wow. You really don't have a clue. Melo forced his way here because we had help already. Not his fault. Pierce a stud finals MVP? Funny how great players can help a lottery player look better. Looking back at history, its almost an insult to say Pierce is in the same sentence as Melo. He was a lottery player all until prime KG and Allen came to the rescue.

how did they help pierce look great? did garnett take pierce hands and help him dribble and shoot? did they move his feet to where he defended kobe so well? come on how you sound...

Melo forced his way here because we had help already. Not his fault.

funny you say that, because what was he and amare's record playing together when he first got here? were they not eliminated by boston and the following year the heat? he had help right? but I know amare got injured, as did billups..

again, bad luck right?

Weren't you the guy that came up with the garbage about Melo not being a guy you could build around because of his inability to make others "better"? My apologizes if you're not but if you are, then isn't it a bit hypocritical to take the exact counterpoint of that argument in this debate? And I agree that Pierce's playoff successful was a result of his own skill but it was much easier for him to showcase his ability with teams also having to focus on two of the most prolific scorers in NBA history; this much can not be denied. This is exactly what people that disagree with you have been contending about Melo; give him a capable supporting cast and he can look every bit the "Finals MVP talent" that Pierce was. To deny that a stars supporting cast is irrelevant, is pure ignorance of the game and its history. Bird needs McHale, Parish, Dennis Johnson, etc. Magic needed Worthy, Abdul-Jabbar, AC Green, etc. Jordan needs Pippen, Horace Grant/Rodman. Every major player in NBA history had similarly talented legends on their team, so why should we expect that Melo would be the exception to the rule? And for the record, I'm not suggesting that Melo is as good as all of those guys but he certainly has some of the things that make a player legendary.

Also, Pierce never defended Kobe; Tony Allen and Ray Allen did so cut the foolishness in trying to make Pierce into this otherworldly player. A good number of people, myself included, would argue that he wasn't even the best player on that team; Kevin Garnett was.
