i feel there needs to be a limit as to how many times you can quote and reply to a post. once you hit the 10 mark, take it to personal email to have that debate or re-quote only the last comment. sometimes the quoting continues to a point where there's only 3 posts on one page. wtf? now back to bball :)

Physical mannerisms?? HUH?

what, you've never heard the term before? What about body language? They way someone walks, stands, they way they carry themselves i.e.: Physical mannerisms.

Thats a good way to compare Shump and the Glove(green font rolling my eyes)

you seem to have misread what I wrote because I said he seems more like Spree. You obviously have no familiarity with the term which isn't rare and is a real term but, I guess it depends on the circles one travels.

So Shump hasta, walk, stand and carry himself like payton to play the game like payton?? BIZARRO WORLD LOL YOUR KIDDING RIGHT?

DAMN MAN, chill out. All I said was I thought his body language was more like Spree. What is your problem, its called an opinion.

OK WHATEVER LOL

now your just trolling me. Get a life

He did the same to me. I put him on ignore. Never had used the feature before. Came in handy although I can still see his posts when he is quoted but better than nothing

LOL, this reminds of that JR Smith/Kobe Skills comments.........love the consistency guns, shouldn't be on Cooches side/Pov.

Don't have a problem with him disagreeing. Problem is with his troll post with CAPS on individuals like Durzo and me. That is why I have him on ignore. Kinda stuff that will get you banned if caught. Unnecessary and adds nothing to the discuss but trouble

I never said nothing about JR and Kobe.Where did that come from? Yes guns you have a problem with anyone disagreeing with your posts. Already talked to the mods and they havent warned me guns so Im sure your disappointed. But then again you have me on ignore, but still read my posts and comment on them,so whos the troll here guns?

The Jr/Kobe thing has nothing to do with this.

I see your point guns, but instead of leaving at that I will troll you about putting people on ignore.

OK I'm moving on

OH, OH, OH so now we moving on.

All I hear is crickets bra!!!!!

Seriously though, I think Shumps is 1 of 1, he uses his physical ability, but he isn't that physical to me.

Not so much in the mannerisms or looks, but like you said his effect on defense from the guard position.

He has Defensive Player of the Year potential, like how Payton won it in 1996. He has NBA All Defensive 1st team potential, Payton made it a record 9 times.

So not so much in style of play per se, but in being an absolute defensive stopper and also being a 2 way player.

How would it be having 2 DPOY on one team? Has that ever happened before?

Stop right there Cooch! (Holding in excitement)

THat can't happen! It won't Happen! Dolan won't allow it!

DOn't worry, the somberites will find ways to "ruin" it for others leaving the door open for the haters to come in and defecate all over it!

I really like the Glove comparison. Now if only he could develop that automatic mid-range shot, then watch out .

Somberites just exist to keep the fabletellers in check. We like the knicks and even Melo. We were sent from the planet "Sombertron". Haters are a different breed.

A defensive guard hasta believe he can take the ball away from ANY pg at any time. When he does, it plays on the mind of the pg the next time down the floor, upsets that pgs whole game. I really believe Shump knows he can take the ball away any time he wants.

The major part of watching last season was expecting Iman to take it away at least once from every elite PG that he covered. It wasn't even a surprise I was waiting for it every game.

Another comparison that is pretty close numbers wise is Pippen his rookie year.

I wanted to say Shumpert is Pippen like on the ball and with the quick hands.

Side note: If I made an all time team, Pippen would be my swing man. hands down the best that ever was. I would love to see prime Pippen guarding Lebron.

I talked this very subject a couple of years ago, and for the record I do think Pippen would give lebron some problems.

Mainly he would keep the ball out of his hands as much, and that is the ultimate goal, normally unreached but Pippen could do it.

You don't see that often, a guy just swatting jump shots like they were floating layups, that's nuts

After watching these 2 highlight reels, maybe im way off on the comparisons, spreewell played with so much energy on both ends from day 1 of is career, shump has a long way to go, he really doesn't even remind me of a young spree at this point

They have different body types. Shump is more compact. He had more of a Wade kind of build before he lost all the weight he did during his rehab. Now his build is more like Payton's. Sprewell was more lanky. He had a build in the mode of Jordan, an excellent body type for the two-guard position. Spree was really physically gifted, a beast athletically, and an incredible finisher. I still recall his dunk on Barkley during the '94 postseason, which had Sir Charles backing up. Even he didn't want a part of Spree.

Spree could have been a far greater player than he was, had he been less of a headcase and more self-disciplined. He had real flashes of brilliance throughout his career (his 96-97 season was ridic), it's too bad that he'll go down as a good player who made a few All-Star teams, rather than an elite player.

Shump doesn't have the physical gifts of Spree nor the offensive ability at this point. But I can't imagine him choking a coach or doing any of the boneheaded things Sprewell did. He seems to have a fun-loving personality, a guy you can't help but like, while appearing extremely dedicated to his comeback from injury & his improvement as a player. On the court, he's an intense competitor, energetic & very driven. He's a guy that seems to appreciate every moment of being in the NBA, possibly even more b/c of the ACL tear.

At this stage of his career, I'd probably compare him to a younger Tony Allen. Allen when he was on the C's prior to his knee/ankle injuries. Shump hasn't shown enough YET on the offensive end to really be compared to Payton or Spree, and definitely not DWade. I think the Allen comparison may be the most apt right now.

Shump is listed 6'5", 220#

Payton 6'4", 180#

Jordan 6'6", 216#

More evidence that Shump is Jordan Very Lite
