Melo has upped his game thus far. If people can't see it they're blind. For the stat junkies....
PER of 24 - Highest of his career
TS% of .569 - Highest of his career
EFG% of .514 - Highest of his career
The problem people have is that they expect him to be Lebron and he never will be. Amazing that Durant gets so much love but if you look up Durant's career numbers (5 years) and compare to Melo's first 5 years the numbers are almost identical. Durant played with Westbrook, Ibaka and Harden and now plays with the same except swap out Harden for Kevin Martin.
Did Denver WANT to get rid of Melo? NOPE, he left them with no choice. Why were the Nets prepared to throw a max contract at him? Does anyone seriously think that there is a GM in basketball who would not want Melo? Yeah he has flaws in his game but what player doesn't?
Look at all the greats who have ever played the game and then look at their teams. Basketball will always be a team game and no matter how great of a player, the player won't win jack without the right mix around him.
IMHO, Melo has finally been surrounded with a team that allows him to do what he does best and who help minimize his flaws. Personally, I don't care about his playoff winning percentage or anything that happened in Denver. Melo is still only 28 and has a ton of ball left in him. His career is far from over and when it is I hope that during his HOF speech he speaks about how finally bringing a championship to New York was his greatest acheivement.
Not going to argue about elite, stats or any of that nonsense. I'm about taking it one game at a time and enjoying our 15-5 start.
