I know a lot of people are saying Kerr was right, but I still think the Suns made a mistake not signing him. They were willing to sign him to 4 years, not 5, so I assume the docs thought his knee would hold up til the 4th year.

By letting Amar'e go, they wasted the rest of Nash's time there- 2 years they could have still been competing. Probably could have kept Nash this year too.

They then went and squandered all the money that they would have spent on Amar'e, on scrubs instead (Channing, Hakeem Warrick and Childress)- complete waste of money. I'd rather take the risk on Amar'e than sign known quantities such as those.

Finally, the new cba gave them an amnesty they could have used in the 5th year if Amar'e had broken down. Granted, they didn't know that at the time, but it would have solved the problem of the 5th year.

You need to research this.

Phx offered 3 years.

The amnesty needed to be used by this past summer.

It was not a genius move - it was actually just a simple one.

If we had aquired Nash, Kobe and Howard, Nash would have broken down within weeks, and Howard would never have fully recovered from his back injury- he would have been a shadow of his former self. By now Kobe would have required microfracture surgery ala Allan Houston. We're cursed!

I'm pretty sure they ended up being willing to offer 4 years (seem to remember the talk of us offering an extra year and was one year really a difference maker).

Also the Amnesty hasn't expired (doesn't til 2015-2016) it's just you can only use it during the offseason:

Don't know about the 4 years but you seem to be right on the amnesty. Not sure why, but I thought that Amare needed to be amnestied by this past summer.

More of a reason that we were brutally dumb in not saving ours.

I figured we'd get at least 3 yrs of healthy Amare.

We have had a half season of 100% Amare.

My primary doc wanted x-rays and got them saw nothing he said nothing is wrong with your knee. A month later I asked him to get me an MRI and they found the cyst. The sports medicine doctor that I saw said we aren't going to drain it she said I want you to get back to running and let it rupture. Once the cyst ruptures your full mobility will come back.

I think the Knicks are Being cautious with Amare but what he needs now is a little rehab stint to get the flexibility back in the Knee. If anything this is good news that the cyst ruptured.

Thanks for sharing the info- Once it ruptured, how long was it until you were back to pretty much 100%? Also did you have any underlying knee issues (arthritis)? Did the cyst ever return?

So far the cyst hasn't returned and it's been over two years now. I continue to run play basketball when ever I get a chance. It took some time for the mobility to come back, I rehabbed by myself so after about 3 weeks my knee was bending at full range, because it had been 6 months the muscles needed a lot of stretching to get the full range of movement back.

Thanks- sounds like once the cyst burst, it was pretty straightforward. Waiting for it to rupture must have been frustrating. I wonder how long Amar'e had actually been aware of it- did the bone bruise even exist at all?!

I'm just wondering why they don't regularly do an MRI, go and look at STAT's knees just as a means of prevention. It seems like they're only depending on him saying if anything feels wrong, but like most athletes they won't tell you the truth. We're often left to wonder why they aren't playing well and then find out they've been playing in pain and limited by some injury.

I do believe there was a legitimate soreness after he banged knees, but the other issue might have also already been there too. I'm just hoping this will allow him to fully heal and be in better shape for the rest of the year. Woody is right to be giving guys more rest than normal. It's clear that a lot of players need to have more recovery time.

As for fans getting all bent out of shape understand that in sports ANYONE can get injured and we're not the only team with issues. Wall, Bynum, Love, Rubio, Nowitzki, Bogut... There are always guys getting hurt. There's a long season ahead of us and i'm sure there will be other guys going down throughout the league. Let's hope we're getting it all out of the way early.
