So cynical you are man. Perhaps you're right though. Not too long ago Dwight Howard was the one who was the good ol' oblivious church kid and look what the NBA did to him. I still believe that everyone, their mama and Jeremy Lin thought the Knicks would match anything. There's no way for either of us to know.

holfresh wrote:As far as Dolan, he does what I want a owner to do and that is spend all his money to buy players for my teams..I love it..

Doesn't that mean that YOU, above everyone else should be at least confused that he's turned the faucets off? Everyone else that pissed and moaned (like me) about his indiscriminate spending kinda go what we wished for right?

If Dolan being willing to spend whatever it takes was his only redeeming feature..and then he stops spending whatever it takes..what does that leave again???

holfresh wrote:It's not my money but from what I read it would have hampered the Knicks flexibility going forward, to that I object...

I posted like numerous times about this. Signing Lin would have meant a monster tax hit going forward but cost NOTHING/zero/zip/zilch in terms of roster flexibility. I studied the rules of the new CBA more than I had any business doing and the one line summary is:

With Lin: 0 flexibility.
Without Lin: 0 flexibility.

Roster flexibility going forward had 0 to do with Felton over Lin. Luxury tax, yes.

But I do think it hilarious that fans are pissed at an owner who spends like there is no tomorrow and pissed when he doesn't spend where they deem it necessary...It's his money...

It's "hilarious" outside the world of sports. In the context of the team it's kind of standard for fans to get pissed if they feel $ is being wasted. I'm sure you would be fairly pissed if we spent say 5 years/$100M on Jeremy Lin and let Shumpert walk..even though it's Dolan's $ right??? In fact I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that somewhere on this forum there's a record of you being pissed at an idiotic signing right?

But people are being less the genuine asking Dolan to spend, and then not spend, then call him a tool...It's not my way..I'm the anti-Romney, I stick to my guns and is usually consistent...

holfresh = consistent

i dunno if you can call a fan who complains about paying for a veteran who's shown he is a lazy bum (jerome james) and then who turns around and complains about not paying to keep an exciting young player (lin) "inconsistent". but let's say we concede that point...

James Dolan is the epitome of Romney-like inconsistency.

Pre-Lin Dolan "Shut up world! I'm gonna spend like a drunken sailor. Fiscal responsibility, luxury tax and salary cap flexibility be damned!"

Post-Lin Dolan "I can't spend like a drunken sailor. I have to be fiscally responsible because of the luxury tax! (you can add roster flexibility in here but I assure you Lin wouldn't have cost us any)

Is the above behavior by Dolan not inconsistent?

It's a tough one trying to make a call on what we really don't see going on behind closed doors...It's such a huge grey area that I can't and don't really try to figure out the thinking...For example, how do u sign Kidd ahead of Felton for the same money and time frame..What's the thinking there..Kidd is done...

I think many here are on the wrong track thinking Dolan may not have wanted to spend the money..I am sure if all parties were on the same page, the Knicks and Lin could have made it work where it would not have cost the Knicks what Houston was putting on the table...My answer to that is that Lin didn't want to remain in NY...Lin wanted to take his show on the road and made it so that it would be catastrophic for the Knicks to match the deal...Dolan saw it as a slap in the face and didn't match the deal...If I were an owner and Lin did everything to leave my organization, I won't be running behind him like a lost school girl either, but that's just me...Lin isn't bigger than the Knicks is what I would think...My thinking is that Dolan is thinking the same...

As far as signing Big Jerome versus Lin..Two totally different circumstances...Different CBA versus the go go days of money to blow..I don't know and can't say...But my thinking is Lin wanted to leave and Dolan said fine...Owners do have that latitude right???
