We have a new season coming up and we are in a better position now to be competitive than we were last season. There are players on this squad who I thought who were a disappointment to me last season, but there is a new season on the way and its wasted energy lobbing invectives at them.

The slate is clean and there is a new season coming soon. I have a feeling that Melo is going to have his best season as a Knick and will do what it takes to take this team to the next level. Go Knicks.

WE ARE a very old team with more question marks than anything else... I just find it hilarious that fans think this guys scoring leads to Great things happenning... we are not better than miami, or boston and as of last year not better than the pacers.. We are an old Denver nuggets clone.. and what did that team do? NOTHING.... How can anyone be excited about a franchise that places this loser, dummy, moron, no defense playing fat ass as the face of it's franchise is beyond me....

Have we really lowered our standards that much? carmelo is not a leader.. he is volume scorer, a chucker, a ball hog, a ball stopper, a ball hawk on offense.. Nothing more, nothing less..

Yeah, nobody's bashing Melo.....

There are more important things in life uptown

yea, like renewing his subscription to the carmelo fan club... go figure...

I'm a Knick fan who roots for the blue and orange. Melo represents the blue and orange so I root for him to help my team win. Dude, the name-calling and emotional rants are a bit juevnile. Your rants against him seem very personal and I cant recall a fan hating a player on the team he roots for as much as you do. There have been players on this team over the years that I didn't particularly care for because they weren't very good (Charlie Ward) but cant recall ever having so much angst for any Knick players.

Hey i liked Charlie Ward. he wasnt suppose to be a star but he was a good player of the bench

Dolan is already in a coma... has anyone heard the man speak? Dude has so many nice suits because he constantly needs to change them as the drool starts to collect.

tfk.. I agree that Melo has accomplished nothing more than make a few all star games and visit the top 10 scoring leader board every year.

But what if we win? What if the Knicks are in the conference finals? I actually think there is a good chance..

I didnt flip flop. I have said that i think melo is gonna have a good season for a while now i was just stating that his past playoff record isnt good. BUT I think this is the year he will turn it around.

Does it really make sense to judge an individual player in a team sport by how far their teams get in the playoffs?

When Player X was on Team Y they went to the Finals.
Therefore Player X is a "winner"

Logically it makes no sense. I think there were only a handful of players in NBA history that could carry a mediocre team to the Finals: MJ and Lebron. Can't really include Jason Kidd because the Eastern Conference was ATROCIOUS. Some managed to carry their team in say a 1st round series against mediocre competition: T-Mac (Orlando). Otherwise the argument doesn't hold up when you see:

-Kobe getting bounced in the 1st round. Nash failing to make the playoffs. KG's early career. Kevin Love.

This team should be good enough to get out of the 1st round unless we get the 7th/8th seed and face Miami in round 1. Think we can take Chicago. Maybe I'm delusional.

well then how should we judge carmelo? Ok, lets not use the playoffs, although that should be a big part of it, but lets not use that.. OK, then what should we use? individual awards? he has none.. this guy gets mentioned by many homer fans with the other great players yet he owns nothing.. NO mvp's no defensive awards, no NBA first team, and for a guy who is considered to be such a great scorer, he has NO scoring titles.... what has he done to garner all of this respect.? what!

He's 28 so it means his career is over. We should move on than.

he is an old 28.. years in the league already, and he has done nothing.. biggest playoff loser in the history of the sport... he is a bozo... I am putting no faith in this clown and dolan... the only hopes I have is that dolan falls into a coma and another owner comes in and cleans house... stranger things have happened, so I remain hopeful...

Wishing a coma on someone over sports? You are one sick puppy.

You should get off your ass with that serial killer mentality and kill the fukka!!

He deserves it - he's evil! He messed up your sports team.

not really over sports.. but because dolan is a horrible douchebag that thinks it is ok to demean people and women.. How is that?

You are entitled to your opinion but you shpuldnt wish harm on anyone

wishing harm? well I could have done a lot worse than a coma.... heck I would take a 2 year coma for dolan, either that or just for him to go away, get lost on an island... no physical harm, but never come back here.. really... is that much better?

but hey as fish said. he already is in a coma.... I am just tired of the guy crapping on fans....who have been nothing but loyal to this franchise... financially and emotionally loyal... it really upsets me... and maybe it shouldn't anymore..

There is no doubt that in 3 years this team is gonna have to rebuild again. So if we get eliminated in the first round the next 3 years there will be many pissed off fans and rightfully so. However i think in the short term this team has a chance if we can get past miami which i think we can IF we are healthy

oh.. trust me, I gave up hope with this team sometime after the Larry Brown saga. Walsh ushered in an era of normalcy but we all knew that was too good to last.

JR is garbage. His amazing scoring/shooting outburts actually hurt, because for each one of them you can count on a pair of games where he shoots 3-13.

What is promising is Amare bouncing back to top 10 NBA player form he was before last year's misery and Felton's chemistry with him. Especially if he's in shape, and its looking like he will be and very motivated that will be a big bonus for us on both ends of the ball.

Felton is a north south PG and also really thrives in transition. He's going to be the starter and thats a huge plus for us.

At this point in my Knick fandom I just call it like I see it, and here is what I see:
I see a team that on paper has the pieces to compete for a title. Two all star scoring forwards. Next to them the defensive player of the year at center. Backed up by two defense first guys in Camby and Kurt.

The defense is improved with Kidd/Felton in the backcourt and that combo will be stable. Felton's chemistry w/ Amare a huge plus.

This team has the talent. It has the pieces. Will they = or exceed the sum of the parts? That remains to be seen and its a huge challenge but for once, the talent is there.

So is the pressure. ITs a win now team. Its also not a terribly interesting group in any way shape or form to watch for 82 games, but those 82 games should offer some insight as to how the squad comes together (or totally explodes)

TKF, odds are that we won't win a ring. We're not the Heat, OKC, or the Lakers. And we have a dip**** of an owner with an inferiority complex. What we do have going for us is a team stocked with veterans who are hungry and want to go the distance. Considering all we have going against us, I'm still optimistic that we can give the rest of the league a run for their money.

I'm old enough to remember going to games with my Dad and watching the Knicks win their last championship, but you know what? I feel more of a bond with the late 80s and early 90s Knicks because I have more of an appreciation now for how hard it is to win a championship. Not many teams can do it.

This team has been on plan B ever since Lebron made his decision. As a fan, I want our team at the very least to be in the hunt. I believe that we have one now.

I don't really know what the best way to judge a player is but I'm of the opinion that it's unfair to label someone as a loser ("just not a winner") based on how far they go in the playoffs in a vacum. Meaning consider: The team/coach around that player, the quality of the opponent, etc.

You can use numbers (old school or advanced metrics). You can watch the games. I love advanced stats but last season as I got to watch Melo more I saw that he'll sometimes take a shot and immediately go right back up when he knows its off and puts it back. Sometimes he misses that putback and goes up and puts it back again or gets fouled. I appreciated the effort and thought yeah that lower his FG% but it's different from someone who simply can't shoot at all and continues to do so.

What I'm watching for in judging him:

- Does he continue to show improved, CONSISTENT effort on D.
- Does he improve as a passer?
- Can him and STAT elevate each other's games?

And I supposed if there was any season to use how far the Knicks go in the playoffs to answer whether he's worthy of being a Franchise Player and one of the best players in the league, this is the one. He has a pretty solid (and VERY expensive) supporting cast and the full support of his coach and organization. We should be able to get a decent seed (barring injuries) and avoid the Heat/Bulls/Celtics in the first round. I expect us to get out of the 1st round and either advance to the ECF or take the Heat/Bulls/Celtics to the last minute of game 7 in an epic battle.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

I beg to differ Fishmike. I believe we have the talent to be in the hunt. We've have 2 players who have won a ring, the defensive player of the year in Chandler, one of the best scorers in the league in Melo, and the best three point shooter in the league in Novak. If Woodson can keep them on the same page, we should be in good shape. I can't blame you for being pessimistic, but if you look objectively at the roster we have now I belive you'll find that we can give the rest of the league a run for their money.

Lebron James made some revealing statements in his post championship interviews. He talked about playing angry the first year, trying to prove people wrong. Unhappy and unfulfilled.

The second year Lebron admitted he played for his love of the game. With joy. He played the way he intuitively had been playing for years. That approach allowed him to elevate his focus at the correct moments and lift his team with him.

Carmelo would be wise to tune out the idle chatter and keep the smile on his face... and when Raymond Felton hist him with a clever bounce pass, keep one eye on a streaking Amar'e Stoudemire every now and then.

Did you say Joy? Uh-oh, Melo better be careful. Its only okay for guys like Lebron, Magic and Isiah to flash a smile and have fun playing a game. some Knick fans dont like when Melo has fun on the court.

Uptown you dont have to protect melo nobody is bashing him they are just pointing out things he needs to work on. In fact most peopel are beg=hind melo they just wnat him to improve on certain aspects of his game that I feel will kake us a bigtime threat in the playoffs

LOL at nobody is bashing him.

When hasn't Melo not been bashed?

I know I know the usual:

-When Melo makes it out the first round
-When Melo quit on D'Antoni
-When Melo forced the trade
-When Melo has too much mofongo
-When Melo told Dolan to tell Lin to shove it
-etc etc etc

He's been bashed the second he donned the Knicks uniform, where have you been Irish?

Thanks chuck... Trust us guys, even nix is bashing when he says he's purposefully not trying to win. The guy is killing himself winning games and putting up monster numbers...the last two playoffs he's been all by his lonesome and still doing it for the Knicks to exhaustion.

Let's try bashing the non stepping up role players for a change.

Where was, and he's one of my faves, Novak? Was he not trying either?

Get off melo, e,brace our best player and focus on the non participating scrubs...we're you this hard on Ewing?
