Obviously he got a great contract offer from his first choice other than the Knicks. He didn't need to meet with other teams.

U mean the first offer or the 1 where he scumbagged the Knicks.Guy doesnt want to be here its clear as day

Your right Melo needs lessons from Eli and Jeter how to talk to the NY media. He doesnt think before he speaks

Melo's still fat. Saying anything about anyone is just proof that he's fat. He should just keep his mouth shut, except when he's stuffing donuts and bacon in it. I just hope he dies right after Denver wins a chip.

I bet Gallo would have kept his mouth shut!

I hate fat all-star SF's who are on our team.

I just hate.

normally I would agree that Melo should shut up about this. But, in this case, I'm with him. This contract is insane.

In this CBA, they changed the rules to prevent a Gilbert Arenas situation. ion the next one they'll have to address going from $5 million in two consecutive years to $15 million. again, that's insane and really bucks the spirit of the CBA

I'm really really surprised people didn't attack him for what he said. I thought that was pretty f'ed up of him. Idiot.

How is it damaging? JR is making peanuts compared to Lin, wanted to come back to NY, and took less money than his market value, basically stated what the whole lockerroom is feeling. Tyson Chandler, who's been in the league 10 years will be making the same amount as Jeremy in year 3, tell me there's not something wrong with that.

MSG is replaying yesterdays game at noon. If you haven't heard Alan Hahn explain the context of Melo's comments please watch the first half hour of the game. Melo did nothing wrong. Hate Melo if you want but he did nothing wrong here.

Haters gonna hate, even though Melo has stated everytime they've asked him this summer, that he personally wanted Lin back.

Melo said the contract was ridiculous and it is what it is once you see that Lins contract in the final year could cost the Knicks $43 million alone. This is all Lin guys he didn't want the Knicks as bad as people here want him to be a knick. Lin went and restructured the contract not so much the Knicks could match but in hopes that they wouldn't.

I'm pretty sure in the NBA it's considered really really bad form to comment on another FA's contract. I can't even remember a player calling another players contract ridiculous in recent memory.

Hopefully he just meant ridiculous as in the way it played out. I mean can you imagine being offered a raise at your company and having your coworker say aw man that dude don't deserve that raise in a public forum?

In most companies HR steps in and fires people without notice for transgressions like this. The rules are simple you don't get to talk about a coworker's pay. To do it on a publicly televised interview just shows how effing stoopid Melo really is.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Please watch the replay of the game today so that you can hear these comments in context and also hear Hahn's explanation. Have fun hating Melo but he didn't mess up here.

It really is the lowest of the low. Definitely against player code. Melo on a level with Tiki Barber now...

Nope, he did nothing wrong. By the way they asked the same questions to Tyson and JR and they didn't say no comment yet all we're hearing is Melo this and that. Guess we feel the subconscious need to pin the blame for Lin leaving on Melo instead of on Lin.

There seems to be more and more speculation by members of the media that Lin didn't want to come back and that was why the deal was restructured. I don't know if I agree with this but I think it has a lot more merit than trying to spin things and pin Lin's signing a resturctured deal that kills the Knicks if they keep him on Melo.

He did say the Knicks have to look out for what is best and Lin has to look out for what is best for him.

That was pretty the whole point of the behind the scenes last minute reneg with Lin/Morey. The first contract wasn't "poisonous" enough for the Knicks, because the Knicks said they'd match it. Then they eliminated that 4th year team option offer, made it 3, and Knicks were blindsided. Honestly, if you were a basketball GM would you pay Lin $15m that 3rd year? That's more than Nash, Rondo, Parker, etc

Chuckbuck, give me a break about this stating the obvious stuff. 1) You don't talk about other peoples money. You just don't. 2) If this were JS SMith saying "Hey, Melos contract is f'ing with our lockerroom" you'd say "STFU JR."

It was a thoughtless comment and if this contract is pissing off the other players, then it needs to be discussed behind closed doors amongst themselves, not to the media. If not, then we simply don't have adults playing for the Knicks. Thus making them even less attractive to watch.

Every day, Smith proves to me I was right that the Knicks shouldn't have signed him. He's a pure headache.

As much as a bonehead JR Smith can be off the court, he helped the Knicks on the court Big time by taking less money. Neither Landry nor Lin did the Knicks any favors, I have much more respect for JR then either of those 2 right now...

1) JR Smith was as efficent a player as they came last season so I didn't see how he helped that much. 2) It's called business. Fields and Lin need to get as much money as they can get. It's not charity and neither of the owe the Knicks favors. They played to their previous contracts fine. Fields earned his playing time and Lin was finally given a chance when they Knicks were 100% desperate and in a deep hole. Lin took them out of that hole single handedly. With those facts, I want to find out why Lin owes the Knicks 1 single favor.
