well you may be right because we have the worst luck

What? the worst luck? No one thought this was going our way and it did! Even if it gets reversed we were lucky to have it for a day!

Who cares if we have it for one day i want it to stick. I mean this ruling could potentially mean seriously contending

+1 on this. JR would be a great return for his option price, but farther than that isn't worth the $$ IMO. Well, if we wait and have a half mil left over, give him $3 and second year option. Why not?

Nice surprise, hope it doesn't get appealed.

Now we can go after Nash or Odom. Question is - who is the better fit and are there better options out there?

It's not like I don't want it to stick, I'm just REALLY surprised this went our way for now.

The ****ty luck factor is why I say it might get reversed.....that & the fact that Asshole David Stern thinks he owns the league. HE is a smug pompus *******....the sooner he is gone, the better!

Could potentially mean not being in the middle or the worst anymore, assuming everything works out. It means a lot, but even if reversed the team should still find a way to compete.

STAT
Melo
Chandler
Shump
Lin
Fields

More than likely all still in orange and blue with or without rights, plus Jorts, Douglas, vet min add on (odom?)
A coach should be able to work with that regardless and a good staff can find the cheap pieces needed to make the season a success.
With that said, the EBR does help us secure more talent and that is a prospect for more wins, but not guaranteed. Be happy regardless.

Nash OR Odom? Nash AND Odom... Nash is MLE prospect, Odom could have come here either way with vet min salary.

Regarding the appeal process, a few points:

FA starts July 1st. The NBA has to have it finished by then, which I think is almost impossible.
We need to sign who we want early on (before the appeal is finished, if there is one - still not clear if there can be), so we are "Grandfathered" in by the supposedly binding arbitration decision.

At the very worst now, we get to keep our own "FA's". Novak is here (unless a better player -that also plays defense, comes along for the same money he will get).

This is an early Xmas, WOW!

Assuming we don't have to use the MLE on Lin (I'm still confused on that point) we should be targeting both. The MLE for Nash and the LLE for Odom. Also, Nash is at the end of his career and wants to win a championship, he'd probably be willing to take less than the MLE if he signs with a team he believe can win a ring.

This is awesome! Couldn't have come at a better time after watching the Heat win another one.

As for the Nash talk, I'd rather have him with the Knicks than on the Heat for the next few seasons. Whatever they decide, at least the Knicks have more flexibility and stand a good chance of upgrading the roster.

Why is the NBA appealing this ruling?
Had enough Melo?

My guess is that the NBA doesn't want to seem like they're trying to benefit the Knicks at the expense of other teams. This is a situation that doesn't happen very often with teams looking to resign players picked up on waivers.

VERY IMPORTANT - Found this on a thread from ephus:

Basically says “we won and we are really happy!”

USA Today is tweeting that the NBA plans to appeal. To appeal (at least under the 2005 CBA), the NBA would have to file notice within 10 days and its brief in 15-25 days after the arbitrator’s ruling (unless the parties agree to a different schedule). Until the appeal is decided, the arbitrator’s decision HAS NO EFFECT. So, the timing here could get really messy, since teams start signing players on July 11.

In ruling on the appeal, the Appeal Panel would be required to defer to the findings of fact of the arbitrator, unless they found he made a “clear error”. The arbitrator’s legal conclusions, however, would be entitled to no deference. That means, as a practical matter, that if Prof. Dam based his decision on a factual finding about how prior waived players were treated, that would be very difficult to overturn. But, if Prof. Dam just based his decision on the plain text of the CBA, the Appeal Panel would reconsider the issue as if Dam had never ruled (other than considering the strength of Dam’s reasoning).

It's not over till it's over. Fuck the NBA for appealing.

Holy ****! I tried to stay hopeful, but I had all but expected the league to win the ruling, based on the language in the CBA.

TERRIFIC NEWS! I immediately could care less about Miami winning now.

we better not he isnt worth it. The most he is worth is his player option

He is absolutely worth it for us...He played incredible defense for us...He took over games for us at time...If you look at the playoffs, we need players who isn't afraid of the moment like lots of players we have seen disappear in the playoff...He is an essential bench player...I'm really surprised at the vitriol he gets from this board...A player who can get his own shot off and plays defense are few and far between...

He is absolutely not worth it for us did you happen to watch the playoffs? Like I said if he wants to pick up his option then tahts fine but he isnt worth more. We need to now look into nash, allen, kidd, felton. we need a good back pg and we need another shooter not a streaky shooter like JR

Nash and Kidd is 40 years old, we need a vet who can play heavy minutes...You can't ask a rookie like LIn to compete in the type of basketball on a level we saw the last two weeks...Ray Allen would definitely be a great addition which makes JR and Novak expendable...I'm ok with that IF Allen signs...But resigning JR does nothing to you cap...We don't have many options out there...

like i said player option is fine but he is not worth using the whole midlevel on him. I mean you are probably the only fan willingg to do that lol. Also Nash is probably in better shape then guys 10 years younger. Now I love lin but if we could get nash and have lin as a back up then it would HUGE

Why do you keep doing this??...I never said I was willing to give him the MLE...I was questioning whether or not he falls under Bird's rights as well so we can retain him without giving the MLE or the LLE...Bro u are a spin doctor...

No Bird rights for JR, we signed him as a free agent, so his Bird rights can't carry over from Denver, and he has only been here for one season.

I guess this is the best Knick win since the 1985 lottery if it holds up.
