Except 2 summers ago was possibly the greatest free agent class in history. This summer they have a shot at Deron and Dwigth via trade, but they lost out on a lottery pick. If they can land those 2 guys and resign Gerald Wallace and somehow keep Humphries they're a top team in the East.

Funny how no one is screaming, they have no pieces to trade for Howard, yet everyone was saying we had no pieces to trade for melo..they gave away there picks in the d will trade..and brook lopez is nothing more then soft ass bigman

I expect Lakers to offer Gasol for Deron Williams, if they went for Cp3, this season, he is probably the 2nd best thing.
While I am not sure if Gasol is a fair deal for Deron, he is still one of the more versatile Centers in todays game, I would look for maybe 1-2 draft picks in as well from the Lakers.
Then the Nets can create all European style of play to create a fan base with the FAs.
Maybe even get Dantoni.....

Look to sign players that play TEAM BALL and compliment each other, at good deals without overpaying...

Dragic or Nash
Marshon Brooks
Ilyasova
AK47
GASOL

JR Smith/ Danny Green
Delfino/Redd
Gerald Green
Kmart
Mahimi
Odom
Diaw

Look for players that fall out the draft to invite to camp to fill out roster....

Move Lopez for a pick....

These are all UFA's so they have the choice to go to BKLYN if they want to....
KG can be a cheaper option than Gasol and if they can assemble a team like this, they would be contenders.
So letting Deron walk for nothing isn't bad either with all the salary cap, and marketing power that younger players would want in NYK/Bklyn

Nets have been a lottery team for awhile now.

Lottery picks aren't going to sell tickets in their new stadium.

Till this day Im having a hard time comprehending just how bad of a trade that was for the Nets and Gerrald Wallace. Why did they trade a lottery pick to obtain Bird rights for a player that wont get a max contract. Couldnt they of easily just signed him as a FA and kept the lottery pick. The only thing thats a benefit is by trading for his bird rights they are able to sign and trade him in the off season instead of having to wait for the deadline. Just dont get how an overpaid Wallace is that great of a trade chip. Magic really want a 4 year 40 million dollar contract on a 30 year old Gerald Wallace. Does trading for Wallace who is going to opt out have any impact on Williams staying. If Williams wants to stay Gerald Wallace isnt changing that fact. If it did make a differance they could just go out and sign Wallace .Just pay him the most which they have to do anyway to keep him now. They would of also had a young player to build around. Can anyone explain to me how this isnt 1 of the dumbest trades of all time.

The hilarious thing is they were trying to trade up into the lottery to get Thomas Robinson. They could of got him if they didnt make that horrible trade. They could of moved from 6 to 4.

Wait until the final roster is on the floor.

I can't say I disagree with you but if they somehow field a team with Deron and Dwight we might be thinking a bit different.

Can't laugh until all is said and done. YOu can actually but you never know.

Teams sometimes "go for it". Knicks with lebron threw away Jordan Hill for a chance. Rockets are making a run at something.

We all laughed at the Timberwolves and they are on paper starting to fill out nice. Memphis was laughed at for the Pau trade and it worked to make them whole.

Sometimes you need luck (Hornets) but you have to put the team in the place to succeed.

At this point, it does look silly if Deron stays they become more interesting.

Funny, the only thing we don't hear is how Dwights back is? Nobody seems concerned.

What will it take for Orlando to be happy in trade? Tune in.

The Jeffries trade cleared cap room for 2 max contracts though. It had a chance to work out, it had upside.Nets traded away expiring contracts. I dont see any upside in this trade at all.How does trading for Gerald Wallace have anything to do with Deron Williams staying if Wallace is a FA. If Williams wants to stay he will stay. Gerald Wallace has no bearing on that whatsoever. Unless they know for a fact the Magic have no problem paying a 30 year old Wallace 10 million a year this trade makes no sense.Even if that was okay with them I would think the Magic would rather wait till the Deadline and get Wallace + the lottery player then trade him in the offseason for just Wallace.I believe this is 1 of the worst trades in NBA History because at least with other bad trades they had a chance of working out. Usually a player gets hurt or doesnt live up to the level of play expected of them. I cant for the life of me see how making this trade helps the Nets at all. Even if they trade for Howard, + Williams stays they didnt need to make that trade to get it done.Wallace could of been signed as a FA then traded in season.

Its funny the Nyets always come out with 3 picks in the draft and non of them pan out lately. Brook kinda did but besides him nothing. What do they have to show after all these years all these picks Gerald Wallace?

I think Wallace gets a longer term deal than a short rich one like he opted out from.

Like I said, I don't see it either but then its not even july 1st so any clarity won't be apparent.

I have like this nagging feeling that Kobe becomes a Net for the last two years. Lakers go into a rebuild and Kobe who always wants out decides to come east and refresh his marriage in NY. I have no basis other than it being good business sense for him and the Russian. Most likely he retires a Laker but one never knows.

Now I have not read a thing about Deron and Orlando but a sign and trade for Dwight, maybe even Deron swinging over to Dallas in a three way can work.

Please understand so much would have to happen for this to become possible but the hard reality is the extra year Deron can get at 25 mil at his age on a contract cannot be minimized. My "feeling" is Deron signs with Brooklyn and likely stays but that extra gives him great amount of money and the Nets leverage to perhaps work something.

That extra year is how Melo got to NY and while it was not great trade value, it was good business for Melo and Dolan who got a smiley face of the franchise. Amare is not as personable or marketable as Melo.

Kobe on the Nets is big business. Not a hunch, just a scenario.

A lot of people go by past performance of a teams future.

A lot of people underestimated the Russian. He pulls off getting Howard it would be a very impressive feat no doubt.

The Russian system is full of corruption. I wouldn't put it past the Russian to have under the table deals with the players he has signed. The NBA should investigate and get to the bottom of this possibly corrupt situation.
