How come Philly are currently 4th and Orlando 3rd in the standings (and seeded 4th) given that Philly are, and Orlando are not leading their division?

It's because Orlando has a better record. The division winners are guaranteed a seed between 1-4, and the team with the next best record is also in that group.

(4)Philly also has a worse record than (5)Indy and (6)Atl, so if the regular season ended today, Philly would play Indy, but would not have home court advantage because of their records.

So whoever wins the Atlantic gets a top 4 seed? Based on this assumption, the 3rd and 5th seed could have a better record, but the Knicks would be cemented as the 4 as long as they beat out Boston and Philly.

Is this correct and when was this rule implemented? It's been a while, I guess.

Thanks for the clarification. I had thought the division winners were automatically seeded 1-3.

A positive for us catching the Sixers is that they have only 6 home games left and 11 road games.

Here is an updated version of the Atlantic Div. Schedule for the Knicks, Sixers and now Celtics. It's a really tight race and it's gonna be unreal going down the stretch:

The Eastern Conference should be very afraid. 3rd seed is in sight and a first round win despite what the haters are predicting. All it took was for a real coach to get the job and demand ACCOUNTABILITY, something MDA NEVER did. Go Knicks!

I Agree with other poster about catching Philly, a tough but possible task
but knicks aint catching Magic so chat on 3rd Seed is waste-of wind Orlando isnt losing Or < .500 ball rest of way
plus Magic beats Knicks so any tiebreaker won't work

NY can go for 4th and up seed. anything to avoid 7th or 8th
BULLs or HEAT

Knicks wont survive those teams early
Write that in stone, NOT this yr. at least

Small baby steps man
in the big picture of things this season. Lets NY win 1-2 game in playoffs then
we'd take our chances next yr new full season and new coaching concepts.

Knicks 2-3 players away

nix, just because I hate to see Boston given undue credit, they did lose that game in Philly on Friday. But it really is a great race, and hopefully the Knicks can stay above .500 and keep it a respectable one.

This is going to be a tough road to try and catch the Sixers. I do believe we can pass the Celtics, but Philly has a relatively creampuff schedule compared to us. The thing is tho that we're only 2.5 back of them and so Philly can't afford to slip up at all. They have to win and right now the Knicks are playing at a higher level than the Sixers. Last 10 games the Knicks are 8-2 whereas Philly is 5-5.

Pretty much every game is a big game for this team going forward. Tonight is another chance for this team to stay close and possibly pickup some ground in the Atlantic race and of course the playoff race. None of the 3 teams can falter at this point. Sixers and Celtics must keep winning just as much as we do!!! Any slip now can really change things in the Playoff race. All 3 teams are on the road tonight so really it's not automatic for anyone. Tho the Sixers have a really soft opponent in the Wiz. Still trap games do exist for teams late in the season like this.

I think the key will be April 8. If the Knicks can keep the wins coming with out faultering they have a chance at over taking the other two.

In the end it's gonna be about sustaining the effort and tho it sounds simple it's a very hard thing to do. Especially now with many of our key guys out!!! I think they players want it bad, but at what point will their bodies just not respond. I hope they can hold on until we get guys back.

Yeah, man. Two consecutive meaningful games against the bulls? It's like the 90s all over again.

News Flash: Playoffs have already begun.

Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

If the Knicks can get the next two will be huge for Lin since they do not play until Tuesday. ALso another thing to look at is the number of games the other two will play clustered after the 8th. They might have a weaker schedule but they do not have that many breaks especially Boston and that is not good for an older team. Its going to be a wild ride.

Yea that's why i'm so into this final stretch. This is an amazing race here. No way to know what's gonna happen. We do have a few more rest days which we'll need.
