Eat a good diet. No more cheese, fatty meats, or anything "white". Only whole grain bread and pasta's.

Arginin supplements, omega fish oil, and niacin.

At the gym, I lift. Nice and easy, but challenge, document progress and increase resistance.

Tennis cuz its why I work out. The better shape I am in, the better my game!

Walk for cardio, be outside and good for the Dog. My dog is awesome!

Im not sure there "one" way of doing this. Eny, good luck with your race and share with us your accomplishment.

MarburyAnd1Crossover, Glad the lifting works for you. I not sure your 100% accurate but I think mostly your there.

I more incline to go with AllenFan as what he is saying is more inline with what my docs and physical therapists have said.

Just keep moving and all is good!

First, get the name right.

Second, I'll throw a final whopper at you:

Fat is good. I eat a ton of fat. Cheese, bacon, coconut oil. As much as I want. But I don't eat bread and I don't eat sugar.

You can go with Conventional Wisdom (where has that brought you?), or you can think about some things.

Different strokes for different folks...!

Of course.

But while you're avoidng the best foods the Earth has to offer, I'll be going in on all the eggs, bacon, cheese, and steak I want. And I'll enjoy optimal health while never having to rely on statins or whatever else these guys peddle nowadays.

Until you croak from a vascular occlusion or heart attack or lose the ability to type out this nonsense due to your massive stroke. Until then, you'll be licking the grease off your muscular lips laughing at how smart you think you are about "fitness'.

Well, there you have it. Clearly, it's opposite day today, which is why Marbury is spewing this Atkins diet silliness. Yes, you can trick your body into losing fat by eating too much of it while restricting sugars like white bread, pasta, white rice, etc.

But that saturated fat is still IN YO BODY, clogging your arteries, raising your blood pressure, and making you sick, even if you "feel" strong from your workouts.

Whole grains, vegetables (especially raw), low sugar (stick with complex carbs), lean meats, legumes, healthy lifestyle, mental clarity, omega 3 fatty acids (like from fish oil), and lots of water.

No one said anything about Atkins.

Marbury you are giving some of the most shortsighted advice Ive seen in terms of fitness. It seems to me that you still have a lot to learn when it comes to weight lifting and nutrition.

Some friendly advice to you, dont assume that you know everything. We can all learn something new from everybody. Try to apply that to your "diet" plan and to your training, and I bet youll get better results kiddo!

What is shortsighted about my advice?

Meat, vegetables, and heavy compound lifts.

Fat is good, wheats are bad.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of that.

Because of what I do, I run, at least, 9miles a week and lift weights 4-5 times a week. I ran a Half-Marathon once, and it fcking SUCKED. Although I would like to run a full marathon one day..I doubt I ever will.

Right now I'm on this crossfit training to prep for this years "Warriors Dash" http://warriordash.com/ and Tough Mudder http://toughmudder.com/. These events are amazing and loads of fun, especially if you go with a group of friends. I hope to the Spartan Race, next year.

For those who are suffering from Knee and Hip pains, I recommend stretching, at least, every other day. I have some great stretches I can share if you like.

Well for one eating tons of bacon and cheese just isnt part of any good diet Ive ever seen. You should know what your macronurtient needs are if your training seriously, and get them from the proper sources. The sort of high fat low carb approach, with no idea of your caloric intake (let alone your health) is really nutrition for dummies (not calling you one, just an expression).

And heavy compound lifts are great, but you cant go heavy all the time. Do you deload? Whats your plan for long term progression? You arent doing any cardio at all? If you dont think that some modest cardio will help you on your core lifts than you havent tried it or your resting like 6 minutes between sets.

I dont mean to preach, but fitness is my biggest hobby and biggest passion. I love to debate this ****, and learn what I dont know and share what I can

5 minutes of cardio to get my heart rate up, followed by 30-40 minutes of weight training, followed by 25 minutes of bike to keep my heart rate and metabolism churning. 3 or 4 times a week, at the gym. Being around others motivates me so much more than working out at home.

Eggs, chicken, nuts, seeds, hummus, salsa, veggies, turkey, cheese, beans, low and fat free milk, low and fat free greek yogurt, blueberries, broccolli, salmon, avacado, water, water, water.

No soda, regular or diet. Used to suffer from migraines a few times a week, and they went away completely when I quit my Diet Coke addiction... life altering!

High fiber bread only, and occasionally high fiber pasta, but always try to avoid later in the day. Generally try to keep my carbs in check... they can easily derail your health and fitness goals if abused.

Cut back on salt, and no longer miss it. Pepper, hot sauce, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, paprika are some of my favorite flavor enhancers.

Shakeology, Met-Rx, and Organic Food Bar protein bars. Great for pre and post workout, or whenever I get hungry and want to avoid binging.

Peanut butter, chocolate (high cacao), and Ben and Jerry's Fro-Yo (infrequent) for cravings.

This is what I'm doing now, and the weight is slowly coming off and I'm feeling better than I have in quite a few years.

P90X is still sitting in its wrapper... I'll bust it out in another month or two to take things up a notch.

As far as the arguing in this thread, whatever gets your butt off the couch is a good thing, and whatever confuses your muscles is good. So mix it up!

My workout: I'm 46

Monday
Run 2 miles in 18 minutes, walk for 4 minutes
Lift - 30 minutes: shoulders, back

Wednesday
Bike 6 miles 20 minutes
Lift - 30 minutes, chest and triceps

Friday
Run 2 miles in 18 minutes, walk for 4 minutes
Lift - 30 minutes: biceps and forearms

I do lots of reps when lifting and change exercises to keep muscles from getting used to same routine.I try to eat better but love my beer.

I don't see any compound lifts in your routine.

You would benefit more from adding some squats and deadlifts, or at least one or the other.

I can't stress how important that is.

I lost all motivation to get in better shape when I hurt my back a year ago. Now I can't even play ball much anymore. The pain and stiffness are too much. I got no explosiveness or agility anymore. I'm trying to get back into it. Mostly cardio but it's discouraging.

You sound like me with my knee. I'm in a bad stretch where I'm not doing much exercise and eating too much crap. Can I ask how old you are?

hows your weight? how tall are you?

might need to break it down and build back up....calisthenics, stretching, active cardio, weight training the the mindset to build up muscles to stretch out your back...focus on building a well rounded body and getting your weight down if its too high.

alot of little nick nack pains come from not taking care of yourself and allowing your body to over compensate by using muscles it shouldnt.

Courage, man! start slow. Just try to do a little 4-5 times a week. Don't over do it, or you'll set yourself back. Just get in the routine and keep at it, and slowly you'll start to feel more into it and challenge yourself more.
