More and more you look at this team now--you realize that JR Smith would be a poor move. We have what we need from the perimeter--we dont need to take more threes than we do--we have two specialists in Novak and Walker and STILL have to get Amare and Melo to join in. We dont need more FGA's. I think if anything we should go with what we have for now.

LOL we shot 7-28 behind the arc last night. Our three-point "efficiency" is guaranteed to lessen in the postseason. Novak gets less minutes with Melo back on the team.

In my book--28 three's is too many. Id rather get 10 of those shots to Chandler and Amare up close on the pick and roll. The three is there to spread the floor and Carmelo can take care of the mid range shot. Where does PT come from--who is giving up minutes for JR Smith.

Right now I see the team as

Chandler
Amare
Melo
Fields
Lin
Jefferies
Novak
Shumpert
Walker
Douglas

If we need anything--we need a higher quality back up PG and maybe some size. I dont see spending the green on JR nor do I see the need to bring in a guy who needs shots.

How much better does our record have to get before this whole concept dries up and goes away? Does it really make a difference if Novak is hoisting threes until Jorts gets back or do we really need a giant pus-filled boil like JR now that we're on the Lin-Train?

Please find someone else less cancerous to focus on.

Elite teams like Chicago and Miami will deny penetration and force us to prove we can make threes.

Lin(36)/Shumpert(12)
Fields(20)/Smith(28)
Melo(36)/Novak(12)/Walker
Amare (36)/Jorts(12)
Chandler(36)/Jeffries(12)

eh, it's a rough draft. Shumpert probably plays a few more minutes. Lin's play allows us to put JR on a tighter leash, so we can give him smaller minutes until his game adapts to fit team needs.

Until we don't have to face Chicago or Miami in the first round. If you can't make threes in the postseason, you don't deserve to move on. Good teams will exploit it, I promise you.

No question. If you don't put the round thing in the the round hole you don't win. Gotcha. No argument.
Can we just find some other solution to that problem that doesn't contain the obvious amount of arsenic in it?
That's all I'm saying.

Well, we might be coming up for decision time- according to his twitter, Jr Smith's team has been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, and he will be returning to America on the 15th Feb.

He's been joking and hinting about what team he'll sign with mainly NY and more recently the Clippers, so I'm still presuming he'll go with the Clippers now that Billups is out. There's a chance he'd sign with the Knicks (he's from Jersey, his gf lives and works in NY, he's friends with Melo), but I think the Clippers area better fit for him now.

So how do people feel now we've won a few games? I wonder with the emergence of Lin, possible return of BD, and with Shumpert and Fields on the roster, do we even have room for him withou taking away a lot of minutes from those guys? Before iw asn't worried about him destroying our chemistry (we didn't have any to destroy), but now we do so I'm more wary. Do we even need him now, or are we just on a hot streak that will cool down?

If BD is definitely coming back and can play, then I'd say no to JR Smith, but if he can't play at a good enough level, then maybe we have room for JR- but we're not going to know that soon enough- it's a tough decision.

I still say yes because you can't count on BD and I just think he is a better option than Walker. I just think you need as many players as you can get. Also, this means no Bibby and probably no more Douglas or the formentioned Walker.

With that in mind I think we can give him a chance if he wants to come here for the minimum. The first instance of him having a personality clash with any of the other Knick players we tell him to clear out his locker and stay home.

Thank you. Give him 2.5 mil for this year and let him earn a longer contract.

Since we got a nice streak here going, Im actually now against bringing in J.R. Smith. Whose minutes is he going to take?

Agree. You need a JR Smith(39% 3FG last year) that can knock down 3s when Lin or Melo are getting trapped in the half court in the playoffs. Unless you're confident in Fields or Shumpert knocking down the big shot, which they proven they haven't yet.

As the Garden Turns

One thing you gotta love about the Knicks... "dese guys don't do nuttin' da easy way"... win or lose, we are the most drama-filled franchise in pro sports. Do we have a big three or a Big Four now?

(SFX: dramatic organ chord) And what about Landry?

The beauty of signing JR Smith is that it deflects some attention away from Publie Enemy Number One Carmelo Anthony.

Scene - The First Press Conference

Reporter: "JR, some people say you are a troublemaker..."

JR: Those people can kiss my ass.

Knicks Official: "okay fellas, no more questions.."

Stay tuned...

Yea, but i dont want to stump their development for someone who might be a locker room cancer and damage our already delicate and steadily developing chemistry. Especially after I have seen with my own eyes what a malcontent (Cousins) can do to a once promising team.

I hear you there about the chemistry issues, but I trust TC and company to police the locker room. When you have a free flowing system with a pass first PG, why wouldn't you want great 3pt shooters like Novak and JR to dish too?

I think it should be bibby that gets cut but I won't be surprised if it's Balkman(not sure of the salary implications). If you cut Bibby and BDiddy can't come back and Lin goes down to injury you are back to not having a PG again. Then again, if you keep Bibby you still havea PG because he stinks but you get what I'm saying.
I just hope that people will like me

Well one thing to consider is that when a team is Linning everything's good. You usually have more problems when a team is losing. We've come thru those bad times and the team didn't fall apart. I'm thinking they won't fall apart cuz of JR either.

Signing Smith comes down to Grunwald and MDA speaking to Smith before they work anything out so that everyone was mutual expectations.

I can see Melo getting spot mins at the 4 in order to make mins for Fields. Jeffries and Novak will get PT based on need of either defense or shooting.
