Then you must have been asleep the last year...
I was wide awake, thanks.
Scoring points and flexing when you dunk on someone doesn't make you a leader.
No but standing up in front of the cameras when you start 3-8 and say this team has to do better and going out and have a monster first half makes you a leader...Did you really forget he had 8 consecutive 30 point games...Did you forgot last year he led the league with game winners at one point???...Did you forget him giving Moz support who he struggled one particular game???...or you maybe you can only see one month back???
So...in essence..being the best player on your team makes you a leader.
When Amare called out his team at 3-8 you forget he was also playing like crap too. He was talking about the defense needing to improve and such and that was laughable coming from this guy. Amare scoring points doesn't make him a leader. I'm sorry. There are guys who are leaders and guys who talk like they think they're leaders. Amare is the latter.
Kobe, Duncan, Garnett, Dirk, those guys - leaders.
Amare? He can only dream to be in that company of not only talent but of having respect of his teammates like they do.
Amare is a leader like Marbury was a leader. Say "we" but never really take the blame for yourself on anything. Amare can't lead. He's not a natural leader. No teammate is sitting in his locker listening to Amare talking about defense, rebounding and shot selection and taking him seriously.
