Iman was drafted to be a PG/SG. We don't have a natural SG. We don't even have a natural backup PG.

Wilson can play some SG/PF but that is not his natural position, hes a SF.
Gallo is a SF.
Fields is a SF that plays SG because Amare and Wilson Chandler causes mismatches at the Center and PF, with Felton's ability to penetrate.

Center was clearly the position we needed, with Vucevic out of our hands.
Sure I don't know if we would have targeted Tyson Chandler, but you don't we wouldn't have either.
No one expected him to be available and to have him showing his value last year with Dallas winning...

I am not saying we wouldn't have targeted him, I am saying he probably wouldn't have come. Playing with Anthony was a draw for him.

Carmelo isn't a superstar, he isn't a gamechanger. Clearly. Is this open to debate? Not at 6-8. Not with one win over a team above .500 mind you that we got on a back to back to back while we had a night off.

Our biggest strength was our offense. Carmelo doesn't make the offense better he make's it worst. He doesn't add to the defense and he replicates our franchise player. Who was a risk to sign to begin with.

He is what the trade took away.

1. An identity
2. Team Work
3. Draft Picks (very important) When you consider late round picks Douglas, Fields, Harrelson, Shumpert
-unlike Isiah we have competant drafters in the organization
4. Young Size - Mozgov and AR (Young size off the bench or even starting in Moz case)
5. A SF combination better than Carmelo that was improving (Wilson/Gallo)
6. A floor general (Felton)
7. Value (Who wants Fields are Amare)
8. Flexibility

Everyone thinks we had to make the move. Why? Where was Carmelo going? Denver? New Jersey? Fine, please be our guest. It's not like Chris Paul wasn't available. They got a lottery pick and kid that can't stay on the floor with massive talent. There is never a need to panic. That's why half the teams in the league or losing money, because they sign guys that are in contract years that are playing for money or overvalue "stars" or their best player

LOL. Oh man.

Knicks weren't that good last year man. Last years team was Amare and everyone else.

Maybe but last year we had cap flexibility, hope was there, for improvements, for trades.
Now we're capped out. What we see is what we get.

And to the ones saying that we had to get MElo, we could have gone for D Will or chris paul.
And either of those 2 coupled with amare would have been a much better option than MElo.

No guarantee we could have gotten either player. Sometimes you need to go for the sure thing instead of the small possibility. and even so, there is no guarantee our record would be any better with Paul or Williams. The lack of depth and talent beyond the big three would still be slim.
