My real question is why the Knicks would give him the 2.5 mil? He'll get his $15m per year regardless.

The difference is that New York could still use the 2.5 million dollar exception and sign Davis for the minimum because minimum salaries don't count against the cap.

I thought I read we had to give Baron our 2.5 mill? Not sure if it was a bidding process and we had to outbid other teams? Originally I thought we could sign him for the vets min too.

Yeah. I don't understand why we had to give him the $2.5 mil exception when Cleveland was picking up his salary anyways and whatever we pay gets deducted from what Cleveland pays. I'm very happy we signed Baron but why not for just the vet min?

apparently since he cleared the bid process, that's actually not true. baron gets to double dip.

I'm glad we signed Bdiddy but it seems a bit greedy for him to take the $2.5 mil instead of the $1.4 veteran's minimum since he already is getting $13.95 Mil from Cleveland. The team could have used the Room Exception of $2.5 mil to possibly land a better player than they could get for just the Vet min which could lead to a better chance of winning a Championship.

bottom line: we were bidding with Miami and the Lakers. just get the deal done. there aren't too many impact guys left for $2.5M. we just got potentially the best impact player on the market.

Correct. Assuming we sign Davis for $2.5 million, we can now only sign guys for the vets minimum ($1.4 million).

So am I to understand that Davis makes more money by signing for $2.5 million than if he signed with us for $1.4 million? I thought it did not matter because he'd be making the same overall salary anyway, and it was just a matter of how much the Cavs would pay and how much the Knicks would kick in. Just when I thought I had this amnesty thing figured out ...

Yeah, and the other suitors were the Lakers and the Heat.

Hard to believe how far we have come in such a short time.

We have not come anywhere!

Play the games and see what happens.

Good pick up!

Not as a savior, but as a role player!

This is an improvement but there are games to play, and they have a lot of things to work out before we are contending.

I'd like to see K-Mart as back up.
Im not worried about these guys being a problem, they are vets and lots of strong personalities to be accountable to.

Bring in Arenas, bring in JR smith, and even Marbury could not mess with this team. The Alpha's are Chandler and Stat and then to a lessor degree the "Smiley One".......

Too bad we don't have him signed for next yr, as well. I think he does well and the roster sure could use some continuity.

I agree with that statement except for 1 point - the bottom line could have been $1.4. The 3 Amigos all took less money to get a better chance at winning. Bdiddy could have also.

Salaries for 2011-2012 Season

LeBron = $16 Mil
Bosh = $16 Mil
Wade = $15.5 Mil

Baron Davis = $13.95 (Cleveland) + $2.5 (Knicks) = $16.45 Mil = more than LeBron, Bosh, or Wade.

I'll say it again - I am SUPER - Glad he signed with us. But he also could have signed and taken only $1.4 mil for a total salary of $15.35 Mil and given us a shot at signing a player like K-Mart using the $2.5 Mil room exception. That is my point. Not complaining at all that he will be a Knick. Very happy.

I don't think the $2.5mil is official could be another media misunderstanding. We should find out tomorrow. It doesn't make since that we'd offer him more than $1.4mil. Then again didn't Billups get more from the Clips?

seriously getting baron davis for 2.5m is a BARGAIN. our biggest need by a huge mile was an abled body pg and he was the best one available by a HUGE mile...

you offer the most you can get in that situation and ask questions later because if you lost him to a team like the lakers or god forbid the heat because you're nickle and diming over less than a million, that would have been DISASTEROUS...

Billups did get more than the vet min because he was claimed under the amnesty rule and Billups went to the highest bidder, i.e., Clippers.

B Davis cleared Amnesty - no team bid on him, so he is able to chose whichever team he wants to sign with, at whatever negotiated price they agree upon.

Getting Baron Davis was great for us. TRUE! How many times does that have to be said.??

But that's not the point of the last few postings.

He is still only getting $13.95 Mil. The way the amnesty works is that we pay $2.5 of the $13.95 he is owed. I agree though, we should have gotten him for the veterans min.

He was amnestied but nobody claimed him. That means that he'll be getting his full salary from Cleveland in addition to what we're paying him. As for everyone complaining about the veteran's minimum vs the LLE, who cares? There's no one available who would've signed for the LLE that improves our team more than Baron Davis. No one.
