Still can't remember the last time a team and a player were so public about agreeing to terms before the team had the space to accommodate the signing.

I think the Knicks know they can move Turiaf and know they can amnesty Billups, so it's basically a formality. I feel like it does happen in free agency a lot in that week where guys can't actually sign with a team but can talk to them.

i think that's what happening here, since the flood gates to legally conduct transactions doesn't open until 2 or 3pm today or something.

i'm hoping chandler is in camp by tonight or tomorrow.

Anyone know if this is true?:

Also: for Knicks to do 4 yr, $58 milion for Chandler, they need to also trade Balkman or Shumpert in addition to Turiaf.

Im excited. Much bigger fan of our squad now.

He will join Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire in perhaps the most formidable frontcourt in the league.
I really looking forward to seeing how much easier it is for Douglas/Fields/Shump to play defense with a real frontcourt to protect the rim.

Even if the Knicks DONT upgrade guard and just go with Douglas/Shumpert/Fields/Rautins/vet min types (Anthony Carter?) I see the Knicks as 43-23 caliber team with a top 4 seed.

Chandler is the perfect player for this frontcourt. We just need these guys to stay relatively healthy.

not true, and I don't think it matters. No WAY Knicks give up Shumpert. maybe they give away Balk and Turiaf for nada, but who cares, right?

I don't know about that. We were at 60.6 mill with Billups. Removing 14.2 (Billups salary) puts us at 46.4. Add on 13 for Chandler and we are at 59.4. Remove Turiaf's 4.4 and we are at 55 million. We have roughly 3 million extra. Did we already sign Jeffries for 1 mill or so? I can't imagine we risk losing Iman or Douglas over Jeffries.

I should add the above Included Derick Browns 1 mill salary. Looks like Bill Walker is on our books (guaranteed).

I might have forgot something, so check the numbers. I took the data from: http://shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/knicks.jsp

one of my favorite things about how this is going down is that we get to keep Shumpbert. no way he goes.

looks that way. Cap is $56mm
Melo 18.5
Stat 18.2
Balk 1.7
Douglas 1.1
walker 0.92
Rautins 0.8
Fields 0.8

Total: 42.02

Plus cap holds and Shumps rookie deal there is something to be said for Hollinger's point. Maybe we have a trade for Shumpert? Details will follow soon...

I thought the cap was 58 million? I pray and hope we are not trading Iman to Phoenix, I know they liked him... We hopefully trade another player for space and not our 1st round pick. It would have to be for a first this year, deep draft. But I think after this year, Iman will look like a lottery pick.

If it's Balk and Turiaf, then I don't care. But the environment around the league has me worried. I'm not sure many teams are willing to do us any favors by accepting Balkman's contract. We might luck out and get a team that needs to reach the minimum salary requirement. I'll just be glad when this is all over.

yea... good call, its $58mm. So thats $42mm + $1.5mm for Shump and another $1.5 for a couple cal holds... makes sense now. Turiaf to Den for a pick. Im sure we send them cash also

i didn't think shumpert's rookie deal counted against the cap until they signed him? they could theoretically stash him overseas, so his rookie deal wouldn't hit the cap... maybe i'm making that up though.
