Now why would you say something like this? You do remember that the Knicks have capspace coming up and contrary to what many think they also still have Draft picks. Just not every year. This franchise has options to improve even if they don't add CP3. This franchise is in great shape!!! If in fact CP3 ends up going somewhere else before the start of the season, the Knicks can use their MLE on someone now to help.

More likely than not, you are right. All we can offer in a trade is a few role players.

If he spends a whole season in LA, the fans admire and love him, and he wins a championship, you think he's going to leave to come to play with Carmelo and Amare? It's a worthwhile gamble for the Lakers and it's more than anything we could offer.

Lakers picks are poop and they need Bynum(whom they love) more than Paul. PG in the triangle is the least important for them. Fisher is just fine.

Phil Jackson is no longer coaching the Lakers. They may or may not use a triangle offense. It's faulty reasoning though to assume that because Phil Jackson's past teams have won championships with mediocre PGs, the triangle offense works better with a mediocre than an excellent PG.

You are correct, however that's not what I assumed. I assumed that they will continue using triangle, true. If they do, best PG is not worth as much as the best C. I think they will go for DH.

As much as I love CP3, he doesn't solve our most pressing need which is a big that can defend, rebound and block shots. Would it be so horrible to address that and try to pull off a deal for a PG with some upside like Collison? Then we can use the remaining cap room to build out the bench with some quality players. Most recent news on Paul is that the Hornets want to trade him ASAP....before training camp really gets rolling. I think all this news about LAC, LAL, GS, etc is smoke and mirrors. Teams would be crazy to give up corner stone pieces for him without a commitment to sign long term.

I have a feeling Knicks are ending up with him. I would rather not if it means getting rid of too much because I think our bigger need is at C and depth. But it sounds like NOLA wants this over with ASAP. And unless someone is willing to rent him, the Knicks are the only game in town.

As the New Orleans Hornets push closer to making a decision on where to trade Chris Paul, the All-Star point guard has indicated the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors could significantly raise their chances of keeping him beyond this season if they also sign center Tyson Chandler, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday.

Paul hasn’t promised he would re-sign with one of those teams following the 2011-12 season if they acquired Chandler, but league sources said Chandler could make a significant difference in ultimately swaying Paul to commit to a long-term deal.

Three teams in pursuit of Paul believe the Hornets will push for final offers – and make a decision – by the start of training camp on Friday, front-office sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Clippers’ and Warriors’ packages are the most intriguing to New Orleans general manager Dell Demps, league sources said.

So far, talks between the Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers have gathered little, if any, traction, sources said. The Boston Celtics remain aggressive in their pursuit of Paul and held discussions with New Orleans on Tuesday.

The Hornets were significantly engaged in talks with the Clippers in talks on Tuesday, but the Clippers have shown no desire to meet Chandler’s request for a contract starting at more than $12 million a year, sources said. The Clippers are worried about an ability to pay significant money to Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, Paul and Chandler over the long term.

The Clippers would have to include 23-year-old restricted free-agent center DeAndre Jordan in a package to get Paul, along with forward Al-Farouq Aminu, guard Eric Bledsoe and the 2012 first-round pick they acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Clippers are more attractive to Paul than the Warriors or Boston Celtics, because of the chance to be paired with Griffin and Gordon. Golden State has been aggressive in its pursuit of Chandler independent of Paul, but the Warriors don’t have as appealing a supporting cast for Paul. The Warriors’ offer for Paul is centered around Stephen Curry and rookie guard Klay Thompson.

The Hornets consider the Clippers and Warriors to have the most desirable trade assets, but Paul has been hesitant to commit to signing a contract extension to remain with either team unless they surround him with enough talent. Paul’s ultimate hope has been a long-term pairing with Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, but Paul did play three seasons with Chandler in New Orleans, where they came within a game of reaching the 2008 Western Conference finals.

As constituted, the Hornets prefer the Clippers and Warriors packages, but were still discussing several scenarios with the Celtics – including third-team trade possibilities and sign-and-trade money for restricted free agent forward Jeff Green. The Hornets prefer Curry to Rajon Rondo, sources said, but a third team could sweeten the Celtics package beyond the core of Rondo and Green.

The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks also have aggressively pursued Paul. Dallas remains a long shot in the talks, but has been canvassing other teams for players that would interest the Hornets.

The Rockets would offer some combination of Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry, Luis Scola, Patrick Paterson and draft picks. The Clippers are intriguing to the Hornets because of the possibility of the emerging young Jordan, who would likely receive a $45 million-$50 million, five-year contract in a sign-and-trade deal.

If the Clippers don’t trade for Paul, they will try to ultimately sell him on signing with them as a free agent in July, with the allure of Jordan on a less expensive long-term deal than they would have to pay Chandler now.

Only place he'd realistically resign at other than NY is probably the Clippers. Clippers paying a premium to try and get Chris Paul ASAP.

Should be interesting.

Chris Paul feeding Griffin would be SICK.

The Los Angeles Clippers have been aggressive in their pursuit of New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul, but their initial offer to Hornets general manager Dell Demps did not include either shooting guard Eric Gordon or restricted free agent center DeAndre Jordan, according to a source with knowledge of the discussions.

The Clippers, Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics have been the most aggressive teams pursuing Paul, but so far the Clippers have been the least desperate to land him because they believe they are set up to win in the short and long term if they can re-sign Jordan, extend Gordon this year and Blake Griffin next year and upgrade at the small forward position either through free agency or with Minnesota's unprotected first round pick in 2012.

The Clippers are reluctant to part with either Gordon or Jordan in any trade for Paul, the source said, because Paul hasn't given any assurances he will re-sign with them following the 2011-12 season and owner Donald Sterling is still deeply stung from the way forward Elton Brand burned the Clippers in 2008 by signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The franchise has just begun to dig itself out of the crater Brand's unexpected defection left behind. Point guard Baron Davis, whom Brand recruited to join him in L.A., was shipped off to Cleveland last February at great cost, the Clippers 2011 first-round pick that ended up as the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Without assurances that Paul will commit to the franchise long term, the Clippers are reluctant to break up their core group of young players or future draft picks they feel are essential to convincing Griffin to sign an extension with them next summer.

Paul has let it be known that signing free-agent center Tyson Chandler would increase his chances of re-signing with any team that trades for him, the source said, but at this point the Clippers have no intention of pursuing Chandler because is expected to command a deal of between $12-15 million per season, significantly more than Jordan, whom they are optimistic they can re-sign for a five-year deal between $7-9 million per year.

The Clippers' initial offer to New Orleans did include future draft picks, the source said. They also indicated they would be willing to absorb the contracts of players like small forward Trevor Ariza.

While Gordon and Jordan are obviously the Clippers' most desirable trade assets, the team also has former first-round picks Eric Bledsoe and Al-Farouq Aminu, the expiring contract of center Chris Kaman and Minnesota's unprotected first-round pick in 2012.

Paul has been the Clippers primary trade target. While the team also has interest in Orlando's Dwight Howard, it has yet to engage any substantive discussions with the Magic, the source said. Still, at this point Paul is the Clippers' primary target because his game would mesh better with Griffin and Gordon than Howard.

No trades can be completed until a new collective bargaining agreement is passed by the players association and the owners.

i kind of hope this ends this week. but all this still boils down to what chris paul wants to do. will ANY team give up a huge package if they're told chris paul intends to sign with the knicks in july? i highly doubt it. i think this thing drags out til the trade deadline.

You honestly believe Chris Paul would leave the LA Clippers if they can keep Jordan, Griffin, and Gordon? Plus they would have his bird rights.

If the Hornets pull the trigger on that deal it's bye bye Chris Paul.

Has anyone heard what kind of deal the Clippers would offer for Paul? Rumors of them not wanting to send Gordon or Jordan seem to me not to leave much of an offer, besides if people say the Knicks would have to give everything then how do the Clippers get off not giving from their major assets? It would seem to me that if i'm NOH that I make sure to get as much from LAC as possible. OTherwise why the heck am I just giving them Paul when they clearly have some pieces of good value.

Eric Bledsoe - 18th Pick
Aminu - 8th Pick
Minnesota's pick - Guaranteed Lottery Pick

You also have to factor in Chris Paul not signing an extension because he would make WAY LESS money. So that right there drops the asking price slightly. Plus Clippers will have cap space to sign them outright this summer anyway.

2 lottery picks for what can potentially amount to a 1 year rental is great value for the Hornets. What did Cleveland and Toronto get? A trade exception and some 2nd round picks.

you honestly think new orleans agrees to any trade with the clippers that doesn't involve them getting both gordon and jordan?

that crappy offer they made isn't gonna get anything done. it's a conversation starter at best. if the clips don't up their offer, the conversation is over. or to put it like CBS did:

So if the Clippers aren't giving Gordon, and they aren't giving DeAndre Jordan... what exactly are they giving? Because Al Farouq-Aminu is one of my personal favorite young forwards, but he and Eric Bledsoe along with the Minnesota pick aren't going to get it done. The whole reason the Clippers are in conversations is because they have more to offer New Orleans, not because they're some power franchise, even with Blake Griffin. There's simply no way the Hornets sacrifice Paul for that kind of package, no matter how good the 2012 draft class is. At that point, taking the Knicks' offer might be better for the cap savings. The Clippers are going to have to step up if they want to get the best pure point guard in the NBA.

Clippers can offer cap savings as well. They could trade Okafor for Kaman if they just wanted to blow money. However I doubt the Clippers are doing that without Chris Paul extending which he is NOT going to do regardless.

Paul and Okafor
for
Kaman, Aminu, Bledsoe, Foye, and Minnesota's pick

I doubt Clippers do a deal like that without Paul taking an extend and trade though.
