Yeah, I noticed that and will take my lumps. Looks like he got into foul trouble against a big front line. Still think we gave him away. 0-5 is not terrible, we've been seeing similar offensive efficiency from Stat for about 2 weeks now, minus the defensive EFFORT (ok, I'm exaggerating).

Randolph 15 and 5 last night in 18 minutes. Love is back so his playing time will be limited.

Mon, Mar 28

F Anthony Randolph averaged 27.5 points and 13 rebounds in his first two starts for Kevin Love. On Sunday, he collected two quick fouls, played fewer than 17 minutes and had just three points and four rebounds. Part of that night can be attributed to foul trouble. Part of it was due to the Celtics' game plan designed to muscle him at every turn. "It was hard for him to get into the game," Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said. "It's hard for young players whenever they get taken out of a game like that to find a rhythm, but he made a contribution. But clearly he was taken out of the ballgame and didn't make an impact the way he could have had."

You have to love how some coaches scout and plan for a guy that is hot. Randolph bounced back last night but isn't starting anymore

Here is his one month stats in 2010, but he did almost the same for two months and then he got hurt, then he came here...
12pts, 6.6 rebs, 2.3 assists, 2.2 blocks, .8 stls 46% FG, 80%FT in 25 minutes a game

It's not like he hasn't performed before. He looks healthy and seems to be capable of performing above these numbers.

I wanted to keep him- just wished he had shown more when he did play for us. There were times when I could not believe how ineffective he was- even doing the most basic things- and the athletic ability he seems to have back now, and showed while with GS, never showed itself when he was a Knick-undoubtedly because he was still recovering from his injury.

You can't help but question the numbers some on Minny put up when their team record is so dismal, though. If you look at each of their players as individuals- you see some good things, but you have to wonder why they have had so little success as a team.

I hear what you are saying about stats. They are not the end with all with me. I think what it comes down to with Randolph is that he wasn't really given a chance here. Spot minutes don't show much at all, especially for a rookie. Then at the end he appeared afraid to do anything (for a time) because of being in the doghouse.

In fairness to playing on Minny, you can't discount a player merely because they play on a sucky team. What about Love? A little bit like David Lee in that he can't put them over the hump, but it doesn't mean he's not a good player. Same for AR, though it will take some time.

I just don't get how Jeffries is better than AR when Jeffries is a liability on offense. Our coach is a control freak, and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with AR as AR doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed - that said, we weren't world beaters and were at .500. I will probably always question coach's rotations as they often make no sense. The latest of which is Derek Brown not getting any minutes on a gutted team - having a finisher is not a bad thing on a team with Melo and Stat and Billups. Especially in light of Fields hitting a wall, as well as Stat.

Jeffries is playing because we're short and have few options. That said, it sucked to see AR go, but who was he playing ahead? Gallo? Chandler? We were trying to win games and we couldn't afford the defensive lapses and inattention to detail that Randolph showed. Minny isn't winning anyway, so they can afford to take their lumps with AR. Same thing with Beasley. AR has a lot to learn and a situation like Minnesota, where there is no pressure, is the best stage for him to do that.

I'm also a bit annoyed that Brown does not get some burn. The only defense I can make for MDA is that he has seen Brown play in the few practices he has participated in and has not been impressed. With the decline of Fields, though, I can't understand why he does not get any minutes when it counts.

From Kelly Dwyer's column:

Anthony Randolph(notes), Minnesota Timberwolves

Per-minute, Randolph has played at a nearly All-Star level for the Timberwolves, which has to be terribly frustrating for Knicks fans. Even accounting for Minnesota's heightened pace and his unfamiliarity with what the Timberwolves still call "the triangle offense," Randolph has come through with great numbers. Per game? Double-figure points, five boards and 50 percent shooting in only 18 minutes per game in Minnesota.

I don't buy the "he see's them in practice" argument, mostly because of what happened with Shawne Williams (tearing it up in practice for a while and it took an injury for him to see the court - where he continued tearing it up.) I don't like to say I question the coach, but for the most part I do. I don't hate the guy though. I know he has talent, but he is so rigid at times and it's frustrating as a fan.

I can't imagine that Brown can't see minutes over some of Jeffries, again as an inside finisher (which Jeffries has no idea about). He would be a nice compliment in my mind. He likes to attack the rim.
