i liked our team a lot - at times.

but when the scorecard came in and it was time to take a risk in either direction, i saw a bunch of guys who had been extremely inconsistent. Who had managed to not show up with intensity on plenty of nights, bombed away from deep excessively and unsuccessfully many nights, made boneheaded plays, repeatedly got beaten inside and often didn’t rebound. who were racking up numbers and positioning themselves to get paid a la david lee. who had again for the 2nd time this season dropped 6 in a row. who were 2 over .500 at the all-star break.

i don't begrudge them at all contributing to a denver team that's playing well right now.

i'm glad we took the risk we ended up taking. watching us against miami, atlanta, utah, memphis, orlando (till chauncey went down and jameer went nuts) . . . i like the potential of this team. but we gotta get it done. those cleveland, dallas and indiana losses were as disheartening as the stinkers that the team laid many times during the first half of the season. as is our record.

btw i sent this to a buddy in denver. his response:

I can see why you take that view. It is misguided and demented, but
predictable. I see the Knicks problems lie mostly with D'Antoni. He
put the system above the abilities of the players. You knew that early.

Anthony will win you more games than he loses. Chauncey is getting
slower and the two will stifle movement by the rest of the team.

Did you read the SI story about the Nuggets post-trade? I agree with
what it says.

I like the part about being misguided and demented, spot on. Your friend should have included the word Fruity too.

THe only thing I hated about the Meloe trade was giving up Timmy M. He was the one guy that we could not easily replace. Chandler and DG are good but Anthony is light years ahead of them as a scorer. Billups is a better floor leader than Felton and with Carter we now have a back up pg. Walsh should have held out and told Denver Timmy M. could not be part of the deal. I think we are 8-2 also if we have kept our center. The kid really started to improve as the season went on, and he was our only true size off the bench.

Nuggets beat the Hawks by 25 tonight. 9-2 since the trade. At least they beat the Hawks.

15pts not 25 but impressive as they tend to have a trend going with J.R. going ballistic late in the 4rth qrt. Chandler carried them in the 3rd to help create a bigger lead.

Yes structurually we are similar to the Hawks. We have a better PG, but they have a better defender in Josh Smith, so it's a wash pretty much. I would argue players like Josh Smith are harder to get with the new crop of decent point guards, so they are probably ahead, if you take into account the cap situations for both teams. Both Melo and Amare are on relatively new max deals.

To me the way out is to trade Melo actually, and try to get some assets back, get under the cap, and get some youth. This will give the team an opportunity to underpay for assets and develop a championship caliber team. Right now we don't have enough cap space or youth or assets to get there.. and as presently constructed we need too many pieces to get to a championship level while following NBA salary cap rules.

Regardless, we'll need to wait for the new CBA to be in place before we can think about major moves, but as of now we are pretty much stuck.

Rose is not the answer.

9-2 is... a really great record since the trade.

But do you really need to go there to feel bad about the trade? You just have to see us try to play defense to hate it. But whatever, what's done is done.

Which makes it even more frustrating.

Don't know if I will be able to contain my attacks on the trade if the Denver Knicks outplay our team.

Just take my approach. I now have 2 teams in the NBA to root for. I have always been very loyal to my Knicks and my Giants. Now I have a 3rd team to follow.

The trade looks bad right now because of the results, albeit a small sample, but the possibilities is endless if we can get the right pieces in here. Yes, our superstars have flaws, but who doesn't outside of the Black Mamba and maybe Durant. Just get me 2 rebounding, defensive minded centers to start with. A shooting guard that can shoot lights out. Move Shawne and Fields to bench and have them be the 6th man. Pray that Billups have something left and TD finally learns.

A lot of ifs but this is the course that we have taken. I am cool with that.

In Donnie I trust.

I've had League Pass Broadband for a couple of years, and now I have a chance to use it more than I have before because of an interest in how Denver is doing and the fact that I don't have to face the usual Knicks blackout rule for most of Denver's games.

Still frustrating, though.

What I find funny is all the love for the past Knicks. Crazy like the no pressure air of Denver got nothing to do with their recent play. Has everyone forgotten that the Knicks were reeling before the trade at a below .500 clip. If not for that ridiculous run the Knicks would have been well below .500.

Yeah don't look and see what Denver was doing their last 12gms or so before the trade otherwise you won't make any sense.

Why wouldn't you count that run? I don't understand that argument. If you take out our wins post-trade then we are 0-6. What's the point?

Denver lost 7 games and only won 3 in their last 10 games before the trade. Everybody gets affected by the trade rumors. I suspect Gallo, Chandler, Timo and Felton were all affected at some point. They are only human.

ouch... our "role players" are 7-2 with Denver
