Knickstorrents - "Unless Carmelo gets his assists up, and his true shooting percentage up, and regular shooting percentage, I still don't think he's worth a max salary slot."
Bonn1997 - In my opinion, the thought that a player is not "worth" what he is being paid is a form of resentment. Sportswriters frequently use it as a hook to build a storyline about a player "under-performing" or "not living up to his potential". Pro athletes must be worth the money, otherwise the owner would not sign the paychecks to be in the game. Strange, when was the last owner of a pro franchise to go bankrupt?
Carmelo IS worth his max salary slot because that is what he is worth to the Knicks franchise, on and off the court. The suits knew they needed another prime attraction to fill seats in the new building that will be completed for the 2013-14 NBA season. Carmelo sells tickets. Ergo, he is worth every penny of his max salary slot.
How good is Carm on the basketball court? Good enough to allow the Knicks to get away with running a 4 on 5 offense on most nights. Hopefully, frontcourt reinforcements arrive this summer.
It's not personal. It's strictly business.
