IF he was ready to contribute he had the same opportunity to do so that Fields and Williams had. He's the only one to blame for his not being able to crack the rotation. If at any time in practice or a game that AR looked like he did in those clips MDA would gladly play the kid. HE's never even been a shadow of the player he showed last year.

this isn't a blame game, i'm campaigning for him to see more minutes, period... MDA needs to realize the talent he's got on that bench & utilize it... give AR a chance to succeed & i think his talent will show through... not once has AR seen extended minutes in any games this year other than one 28 minute stint early in the season when he was still trying to learn a new system... u telling me that's a fair sample to judge where he's at as a basketball player? gimme a break.

I think MDA wants to at least see some signs of AR getting it in practice. We read good things about TImo before the last game and I remember reading the same things about Williams before he got a shot. It's not too much to ask for a coach to see that a player understands his role and can execute in practice before he gets a shot in a game. Mike gave him a shot and he did well. Maybe now he gets more of a look in more games this year. There's still time left to get it going.

i agree it's up to AR to prove to MDA that he can handle regular minutes load, but at some point the coach has to show him some faith & give him the chance... let him stay on the floor beyond just an 8-12 minute stretch & see if he can do something the way he did with Mozgov the other night... it's hard for a young player trying to learn a system to perform up to his talents & get into the flow of the game if he's constantly having to look over his shoulder to see when the coach is gonna pull him out.

Here are some statistical pictures that show how Randolph matches up with Knick forwards and centers on season shooting averages.

Turiaf .634
Amare .501
Williams .471
Chandler .465
Gallo .424
Timofey .419

The average shooting average of Knicks Centers and Forwards i.e. the positions that Randolph might play is .485
The average shooting average of Anthony Randolph for the season is .282

drawing statistical comparisons based on his sporadic run this year... great sample.

how about this for a statistic... AR averages 8 / 6 / 1 in 18 mpg with .445 shooting over his short career... that beats out just about every other player currently on our bench.

AR was given a chance. He did not step up. Williams barely made the team. He is getting minutes.

Its earned. You make assumptions like he is not given a chance. He is lower on the food chain.

He still could earn his stripes. This is what everyone wants.

YOu want blind faith? Not gonna happen. Mozzy got his chance and he stepped up.

I hope AR is so good he eats everyones minutes!

Youtube shows an athlete doing some nice things.

Warriors did not trade AR for Dlee. It was a sign and trade. A way for us to continue the cap space with Bukke expiring and Turiaf servicable. Warriors gave up on him. Lets be real. He is a prospect. Im my eyes the youtube clips and the fanboy kool aid HOPE we had for the kid elevated our hopes. I prefer we keep the kid and let him grow up. YOu do realize he would be an asset in any Melo trade this year?

Don't blame MDA for not playing him. Blame Williams!

dude, AR was the central piece of that D Lee transaction for the Warriors, not some excess throw in piece that they gave to us as garbage filler... & Mozgov came in & looked horrible in the first 10 minutes to start off the game & committed 2 early fouls... in any other game he would have been yanked, but MDA stuck w/him & he was able to get into a groove & put up some huge #'s... u telling me the same can't happen w/AR when he's already shown he can play like that in previous games before he was a Knick?

& if AR gets an opportunity to play & proves his worth, then maybe we don't have to give up quite so much in a Melo trade... or maybe we can afford to give up someone else because we have AR to take his place in the rotation? you do realize the possibilities that having a talented young player showcased on your roster affords a team, don't u?

I disagree. I think D'Antoni made up his mind very quickly that Randolph was not going to be in the rotation or be one of his guys. I think the writing was on the wall back when D'Antoni was yelling at him in the Milan game. I believe there was a thread back at the time of the trade where posters speculated that the Randolph might be put in D'Antoni's doghouse based on some guys that have ended up there in the past.

If Lebron and Bosh came here Dlee gets renounced and he don't get a deal with GS, and thus no trade.

I agree, Randolph got in the dog house early.

Why you think that?

Why he not get out of it?

MDA wants to win does't he? Keep a good locker room? Sell tickets?

IMO i think AR could be just as good a complementary player to mix with Amare, Melo & Felton as any of our other young guys... i thought MDA was done w/AR weeks ago but i'm hoping he shows me i was wrong in the coming weeks.

if Lebron & Bosh came here then no Ray Felton or Mozgov either... this doesn't change the fact that DW made that trade as a plan B option to make sure he got some value out of losing David Lee... to limit AR to only garbage run do u think that's maximizing the value of that trade or no?

So really what's going on is some people here think AR is not getting time because:

1. MDA doesn't know basketball, he doesn't understand how AR could help
2. MDA is spiteful and childish, he doesn't want to play AR out of a personal hatred
3. MDA is terrible at evaluating and developing young players, Fields, Williams, Gallo, and Douglas are all bums

Come on. MDA sees this guy every day, in practice, all over the place. He is the best judge of what AR can do and if AR is ready. Whatever the problem with AR is, I'm 100% it's valid and rationally founded.

Every one of your posts boils down to "AR should be playing, it's an error that he is not playing". Since MDA is the guy in charge, it follows that this error is on his part.

He should play the players that earned their playing time.

AR still needs to show more but I liked what he did out there for 8 minutes the other day.

Mozgov deserves another shot. If he fails then he should keep working hard and wait for his shot next year.

When you trade 3 for 1 those are considered fillers(pieces that will make the deal work) would you trade david lee staight up for AR with all his gobs of talent, hell know you wouldn't, same goes for rony and AZ.

You basically want to sacrifce wins at the expense of getting AR some good minutes, the hell with playoffs, lets just groom AR for the future. If someone goes down, AR will see minutes just like Mosgov and he should make the best of it (which in the pass he didn't)..

The 5 to 6 good games that AR had last year doesn't execatly negate the 20 or so horrible games he had last year, and it's unfortunate that we can't goto youtbe and pull up all his missed assigments on defense, and mind boggling shots on offense.

my stance is that i think AR can help this team if given the opportunity... i'm sorry but i can't agree with every single decision MDA makes as a head coach some of his decisions don't make sense to me... that doesn't mean i think he knows nothing about basketball or that i view myself as some genius strategist.

The filler in the trade was Buike and Turiaf. One guy may not play this season and the other has had heart surgery and shouldn't play over 20+ minutes a game. The prize in the trade was Randolph. Go back and read what Walsh has said about him and how he seriously considered taking him with the sixth pick in the draft. That wasn't just lip service because he re-addressed those comments recently and then confronted a reporter because he felt that he was trying to pit him against his coach.

Ronny & Buike were filler pieces... we didn't even know if Buike could play this year, we took him as an expiring contract filler in that deal... Turiaf added some value to the package but not the central piece that DW traded for, it was AR... if there were no cap restrictions & we could have traded Lee for AR this summer i wouldn't have had a problem with it & i bet not many other people would have either... & no i don't support giving up on the season to develop AR don't put words into my mouth... i'm campaigning for this guy to be given a regular run of 10-15 mpg to start off & see how he progresses from there... replacing Bill Walker in the rotation is not going to determine the outcome of our season or whether we make the playoffs... calm down with the exaggerations.

Doc Rivers joined the Knicks in the 1992/93 season. His play in the first half of that season was quite disappointing for a guy that had spent 10 years playing in the NBA. (8 years with the Hawks, a year with the LA Clippers and now he was joining the New York Knicks). As evidenced by his ability to coach the Celtics to a championship, Doc had a very smart basketball mind, yet adjusting to the Knicks style of play still took him half of a season. The fact that AR hasn't been able to function efficiently in the Knick's system in his first half year is therefore not very surprising to me. .

Its not easy to memorize where MDA wants you to be in his system at different times. Perhaps AR's problem is that he thinks winning basketball is about scoring points and getting rebounds. He probably wants Mike to turn him loose and let him do his thing. Mike, on the other hand, insists that AR do what all of his other players have had to do, i.e. learn to play within the system or not play at all. For Mike to let AR play in his system without learning what he specifically needs to do in most situations, is something that Mike would never do.

You are correct that AR's career scoring average is .445. The fact that he shoots .280 for the Knicks is a strong indication that he is still quite ill at ease within the Knick's system. AR's lack of discipline does show up in one of his career stats. He has made 1 out of 12 shots from 3 point range in his NBA career. I find his willingness to shoot 12 shots while making one from that range to be undisciplined and also not that interested in helping his team win. Continuing to shoot threes when you are such a bad long range shooter is one reason that AR doesn't play winning basketball.

Some good stuff here, and I was about to post about the fact that we did not really trade Lee for the GS boys (Did Walsh shop Lee around??? Lee was doing his own selling.), which seems to be a common misunderstanding of the transaction.

I have more doubts than hopeful expectation for AR at this point (following the trade I was one who thought he would get significant minutes on the floor), but I will be happy to be proven wrong regarding my feelings about him, and won't mind at all if a few years down the road Ar is a success in NYC, and folks around here remind me of how wrong I was about him.

I find his willingness to shoot 12 shots while making one from that range to be undisciplined and also not that interested in helping his team win. Continuing to shoot threes when you are such a bad long range shooter is one reason that AR doesn't play winning basketball.

wow, 12 3-pt shot attempts in 111 career games played makes him an undisciplined chucker not interested in helping his team win? what's that average out to, like 1 3-pt attempt every 9.25 games? do u even remember how those attempts even came? maybe a few were at the end of a quarter where he had to chuck up any shot attempt before the end of the period, or maybe a few were when the shotclock winded down & he got the ball in his hands where he had to attempt something before a violation? i've watched AR in a handful of games before he became a Knick & i never remember him attempting a single 3 pt shot, i've seen him get his shot attempts off mostly in transition, offensive tipins & dunks, & a few times running off screens for midrange J's or creating shots off dribble penetration... i've seen him make some nice plays that ignite the crowd on the defensive end as well... i'm sure other guys have watched him a lot more than me that might shed more light on how AR is in terms of chucking up 3 pt shots but the numbers don't really say much.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
MDA needs to play AR & Mozgov for the rest of the year!
