It would have been a shrewd marketing move by the Knicks, who are being billed as some multi-national, United Nations team. Didn't hurt that he has game eiher.
All things being equal, and that was not really the case since GS offered him guaranteed $$, it sounds like he wanted to stay in the area.
Saw his GS pre-draft interview, and he talked about how he had tried to get into Stanford and some other schools on the west coast, but they would not offer him a scholarship- he had to be a walk-on. He said that Harvard offered him a scholarship, although I don't think he said whether it was for BB or academic.
