Regarding these offers to sign Lee, there's one fact that some people seem to be missing. 5 years at $66m is a much better offer than 6 years at $66m.

I'd only take Gilbert Arenas if Washington terminated his contract and we signed him to a 1 year deal. It's suicide to trade for him.

you will get a lot of spin doctors around here who will say that would be a very successful outcome after all the moves to clear salary, but you won't get any arguments from me... we better land a real superstar to build around this summer or else we would have been better off not making the T-Mac trade.

thats arm chair QBing. Why stop with the JJ trade? If we dont get a star we should have kept Zach and Jamal. Jamal was scoring 20 a game and playing great under MDA. Lee and Zach were putting up good #s playing together and the Knicks were off to a good start at 6-5. Throw in a healthy Gallo, assume we still draft Douglas, maybe sign a guy like Livingston with the MLE and you have a solid team. CERTAINLY a playoff team:

PG Crawford/Douglas
SG Chandler/Livingston
SF Gallo/Walker
PF Zach
C Lee/Barron
There's your 9 man rotation. Pretty solid group. Lots of rebounding and fire power. That group is going to look pretty good rebounding the ball, pushing it up court and taking the first open look they can. You have Zach and Lee crashing the offensive boards and cleaning the glass.

the point is clearing all the big contracts and giving up stuff to do so has given us a chance to sign 2 max FAs in the best FA class ever. Its the same thing we talked about 7 years ago when Wade, Amare, Lebron, etc were in the best draft class ever. Lets firesell for a CHANCE at these guys. If we miss we miss, but shooting for a CHANCE for that kind of star is the right thing to do.

Either you believe this CHANCE is worth taking or you dont.

All this talk about Joe Johnson or what trades to make if we dont get a star is secondary. That isnt the plan. Thats what to you when what your trying for doesnt work. There are some desirable scenarios and some undesirable ones.

It doesnt really matter. It all comes down to whether or not you think this course of action was worth it.

TMS you were all for dumping Zach and Crawford's contracts. They were bad. But we werent getting a max star to come here with 3 other guys on the roster. We needed to either bring in a 2nd max guy or be able to bring back Lee and some semblance of a supporting cast. The Zach/Crawford/JJ trades all go hand in hand.

Every plan, no matter how good can fail. Its all risk reward. This plan can yield an amazing team and a star. It can yield 3-4 more years of frustration if the plan B isnt managed.

All I can say about Walsh so far is he's done what no other GM has done here in 10 years which is stick to a plan. For me he gets 3-4 years to build the team. He wants to do it through FA. OK, lets see what he gets. His moves have all been for a reason so far and really only one move has clearly been poor (Hill pick).

i'm not ready to say that. jennings would have been a much better pick, sure. but the guy basically sits his whole rookie year, then goes to a western conference above-.500 team and throws down games like 12-9 in 16 minutes, 15-3 in 18 minutes, 11-7-5blks in 27 mins. and he's 6'10" 235. i'd take him in a SECOND on my team with 3 more years to develop him at rookie scale.

my belief is that DW better have something already worked out with Lebron's agent for this summer, otherwise trading away a #8 lottery selection & 2 possible future lottery picks was a boneheaded move to make.

is your opinion only based on lebron and another free agent or could it be any of the two big FA?

personally i say it's Lebron or bust cuz the whole premise to clear cap space for 2 max guys was to lure him to NY... but if we get out of the summer with Bosh & Wade, how could anyone complain about that? that ain't gonna happen tho, Wade's staying in MIA & i personally am of the belief that Bosh is on his way to either CHI or MIA... i think we're ending up with David Lee & Joe Johnson at best at this point... i hope i'm wrong.

I bet a lot of empty seats at the Garden if we come away this summer with Joe Johnson and David Lee. I hope Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni realize this. D'Antoni won't even last until Christmas.

i hope you're wrong too

everyone is in a different place when it comes to this stuff. personally, i just want a better team - no matter who comes and who goes, i just want this team better. i just can't cry over the past (not saying anyone else couldn't or shouldn't) but for me, i just need to move on and if this team wins that's all that counts to me.
