As we've long discussed, the Bulls are agreeable to trading Kirk Hinrich. His contract has two years and $17 million remaining on it, and if the team was able to exchange him for expiring contracts, they'd get farther under the salary cap this summer to potentially have the money to land two big-name free agents.

So is it going to happen?

Well, we've previously noted the Lakers are a potential suitor, and ESPN's Chad Ford threw out a potential three-way trade involving the Trail Blazers yesterday.

"The word out of the All-Star Game late Sunday had the Lakers recruiting the Portland Trail Blazers as a third team in trade talks with the Bulls," he wrote." According to one source familiar with the discussions, the Lakers would get Hinrich, the Bulls would get Adam Morrison, Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw and Juwan Howard, and the Blazers would land Tyrus Thomas and Sasha Vujacic. Such a deal would lessen the amount of money the Lakers would be adding to their payroll next season."

Yet, don't expect this deal to happen: since the Blazers just acquired Marcus Camby, they have little need for Thomas now.

The Celtics were another rumored team, but as they want a young scorer with a good contract back in exchange for Ray Allen, Hinrich doesn't exactly fit that bill.

Thomas and Hinrich could still be packaged in a deal to the Rockets for Tracy McGrady, but the Knicks still appear to be T-Mac's lead suitor.

Chad Ford
Bucks could save Bulls
"The Bulls were working with L.A. in an effort to recruit a third team to take on Sasha Vujacic's contract in a Kirk Hinrich deal. Portland was a possibility, but obviously they are out now. The Lakers like Hinrich, but won't trade just expiring contracts for him. Not sure who else is really in the mix for Hinrich. The Bucks could be another trade partner for the Bulls. There is some interest in a deal that would send the Bucks expiring contracts for Tyrus Thomas and John Salmons."

Man the Bulls are seriously going to make a run at Wade. While no one really cares. Paxson has really done a horrible job.

I think the Bucks would be ok with Vujanic and Tyrus if Chicago sends some cash or a pick there way.

chicago could be a team left out in the cold...literally and figuratively.

they have a history of not being able to attract big name FA's...and paxson is just too conservative at times and overvalues his players.

they still play decent ball and have a stud in the making in rose. and a very nice defensive piece in noah.

i don't see wade going there even tho he's from chicago. but if a guy wants to still be the man while surrounded by 3 really good pieces in rose + deng + noah...then chicago is not a bad place to land. imho, i see them giving a huge deal to joe johnson.

Chicago is rumored to be offering Deng for Al Jefferson.

Jefferson has one less year but makes more than Deng. If they pull that off then I assume they will be targeting Johnson or Wade at SG.

word is the bulls want a first round pick for tyrus. which would explain why donnie is asking for houston's 2010 first. and maybe explain a nate to boston for a pick scenario...

here's the article...
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-thomasspurs021610&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

The San Antonio Spurs are trying to unload Antonio McDyess(notes) and the remaining $7.5 million owed him after this season to possibly clear a way to make a trade for Chicago Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas(notes), league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Spurs have been searching for expiring deals to move McDyess, who will make $4.9 million next season and is guaranteed about $2.6 million in 2011-12. Trading McDyess would free minutes and give them greater flexibility to re-sign Thomas this summer if they want. Thomas would give the Spurs a younger, more athletic complement to Tim Duncan(notes), and could be part of a future frontline with former first-round pick Tiago Splitter(notes) and rookie DeJuan Blair(notes).

The Spurs are shopping Roger Mason(notes), who is in the final season of his contract, with the help of Mason’s agent. In addition to Mason, they have a number of other expiring contracts – Michael Finley(notes), Matt Bonner(notes), Ian Mahinmi(notes) among them – to possibly offer the Bulls.

The Denver Nuggets could be a match for McDyess, who played six seasons there. Nevertheless, it’s less likely the Spurs would want to do that deal with another Western Conference contender. The Bulls have been shopping Thomas, and are trying to get expiring contracts and a good first-round pick for him.

New York still has interest in a deal for Thomas that would include Al Harrington(notes), but doesn’t have a 2010 first-round pick to give them. And one of the Knicks future first-round picks could be on its way to Houston in the deal they’re discussing for Tracy McGrady(notes) and his expiring contract.

The Spurs are 30-21 and are tied for fifth place in the Western Conference. They traded for Richard Jefferson(notes), who they also have tried to trade, and signed McDyess last summer to increase their payroll to about $80 million in hopes of chasing their fifth championship.

Sounds more likely he will be with the Heat and Jamison will be with the Cavs. Funny how it works since that was Lebron original request and Wade's request to get Amare. Everybody is happy.

If that happens everyone might be staying where they are except Bosh.

Who's to say that Lebron does a long deal. It has been reported that it is possible that he stays in Cleveland with a short deal.

According to one source the Rockets tried to make a last-hour run at Stoudemire, offering Shane Battier, Luis Scola, Brian Cook, a Rockets draft pick and one of the picks the Rockets acquired from the New York Knicks. Because of the lateness of the hour the Suns wanted to waive the physical examinations for the players involved. The Rockets didn't want to do that for Stoudemire, who has had two major knee surgeries, so the proposal died and the Suns didn't make the long list of satisfied customers.

Cleveland's team isn't very appealing heading into the future.

As to LeBron, I do believe if he and another FA join us, they may do what they did before and sign a 3 year deal. Then go for the long term max if things work out. I believe that will be the case if Bosh goes to Miami or Wade to Chicago - or any of these scenarios. They are the perfect age to sign a 3 year contract, then a 6 year max, then another 3 year contract in their twilight years.

It just makes sense for them to go 3 years again like they did last time (wade, Melo, Bron) to keep options open and maximize their contract abilities.

Also, going to a new team, you get 10% raises not 12.5% if you stay where you are. So they'd be best going for 3 years on the new team. This limits the length of time they'd be imposed the 10% raises...and could jump to that 12.5% raise much earlier.
