All great coaches have great players, so its not very wise to mention that MDA had Nash, Amare, etc....Riley had Magic, Worthy and Kareem. Does that mean is isn;t a great coach. Red had Bill Russell, Hondo, Cousy, etc....Phil had MJ and Pippen, then Kobe and Shaq....whats your point?

If that was the case why was Duhon playing?

All knuckleheads are not created equal

"He is a knucklehead like Rasheed Wallace who doesn't get into trouble off the court but cant control himself on the court at times."

AnubisADL - Nate is an attention getter with great hops and a decent jump shot.

Rasheed Wallace is a fluid, sweet shooting, big man who is a foot and a half taller. Sheed also happens have a short fuse with officials and owns a sparkly championship ring

Cool, So Mike Brown is a great coach and he should be a target for us when we look for a new coach. Look at his record with that Cav's team.

Sheed was not receiving much love when he was a "Jail" Blazer. Detroit acquired him for pennies due to his bad image and he showed he can contribute to a winning team.

The best players in the world all praised MDA's coaching ability after they had a chance to play for him. Nash under MDA TWO MVP's! Before MDA Nash was considered good but not MVP material. MDA gave him a gameplan and complete control and he got BETTER! That's what great coaches do. They good players even better. Nate had the same chance to be great and pissed it away cuz he's a clown. All that talent and he should be our starter, but no he's gotta be the class clown. This isn't about MDA.

I don't get this MDA bashing. You let Phil Jackson coach a team with mismatched scrubs and we see how well he does? MDA came in knowing he would be losing a lot of games, that took guts. He accepted a huge challenge here and should be praised for that alone, not to mention how well he has them playing right now. Guy's a good coach no doubt, one of the very best.

Nate may go to another team and contribute, but this isn't because of MDA wasting him here. Sometimes a change of environment is all a person needs, sometimes a situation is so sour that it cannot be redeemed. What's a guy to do?

1-9 start aside, this is a playoff team, playing playoff ball.

Winning

AnubisADL - let's be clear, Joe Dumars acquired Sheed because he can flat out play on both ends. Contribute to a winning team? You underestimate Wallace's role with the Pistons. 'Sheed not only defended centers and forwards, he spread the floor and provided emotional intensity - he was the best dancer in the pre game huddle and was the focal point of the introductions by PA announcer John Mason.

Sheed, as he did since his day at North Carolina, showed he could play winning basketball at an elite level with other elite players.

Funny how the Celtics wanted the elder Sheed more than Nate.

If MDA is a great coach because of his run with Phoenix should Alvin Gentry be considered a great coach. In regards to Phil, he has been blessed with the best player in the league on his rosters but he has also handled some strong personalities and blended them into a team concept on the court. MDA is not able to do that. I also think Phil is a very good communicator and that contributes to his success. MDA does not appear to be able to coach anyone who might rock the boat a little or deviate from what his expectations are.

This will go around the league like a plague. Players are talking and from the information I'm getting it is in Nate's favor. This reminds me of the sex abuse Law suit. The Knick tried to play strong arm and It back fired on them. Mike D tried to break Nate but he couldn't. Sure I didn't like some of the things Nate did. The Knicks shot themselves in the foot because they Killed some of Nates value. I hope Lebron trys to get him signed in Cleveland.
Way to go Knicks you blew it again by devalueing a player and now we get nothing in return.

+1

Plus I am not even sure what Nate really did to warrant him being treated this way. Does anybody really know what is the true root of all of this?

D'Antoni came for the money. We made him the 3rd highest paid coach in the NBA. If he really cared about winning he could have easily waited to see how the draft turned out. He saw the $$$ and jumped on it. I cannot fault the man for that since at the end of the day this is all a business. Im not going to give him props for accepting a "sucky" job when he is getting paid more than the other 23 coaches in the league.

Outside of Nate, I just have to add I don't agree with the rotation. I think the problem is that who is going to want to come here and play if they are not the top 7 or 8 guys. If an injury happens we may be a bit screwed... Perhaps we can relate this to Nate not getting playing time, or Tony and Hill for that matter.

He has shortened the rotation out of necessity, not because he wants to. I think he will expand his rotation when he thinks he has more guys he thinks are worthy of being included. I assume that anyone we trade for or sign will be worthy of minutes, although lets face it, we all thought Darko was going to get some time, and look how he has turned out.

I would like to see Douglas get a consistent 15 MPG at this point, and it looks like Bender may be given limited minutes until his play earns him more or less time on the floor, but the rotational foundation of this team is still Lee, Jeffries, Gallo, Chandler, Duhon, Hughes, and Harrington. Hill may be used in certain situations, which only MDA can define, and you figure that Curry will still get a few looks, but it looks like 7 players will get significant minutes, 2 will get some looks, and the rest just have to hope they get a shot to play.

D'Antoni sure has a lot more clout than any Knick coach we've seen in a long time.

Why shouldn't he have more clout than previous coaches?

I never said he shouldn't. It was just an observation.

I like to think its because Dolan has decided to stay out of it.

I'm prolly in the minority on this, but I think Layden and Thomas weren't successful here because of Dolan. Thats why Dolan likes Thomas so much..because he was loyal to him and a "yes" man. anyway.....

We may be in the minority, but I'm in agreement that at least part of the reason Layden and Thomas failed was because of Dolan's interference. He seems to be letting Walsh & D'Antoni make personnel decisions. On the other hand, I think all three of them are in accord on wanting "high character" guys on the team.

the problem i have isn't that MDA finally had enough of Nate, but how he handled the situation... he should have talked it over w/Donnie & figured out a plan of action to unload Nate somehow & get back some useful asset... to banish him to the bench & basically force Nate to demand a trade is pretty much biting off your nose to spite your face, isn't it? what good does it serve our chances of trading him by benching him like that is my question... i just don't see any positives there.

no one in the league wants him. that was proven out last offseason.

No..that was not proven.

Both he and D.Lee were UFA. Why would a team waste their time trying to negotiate with them if everyone knew that the Knicks were going to match?

Much like what is happening to Jason Bay. MLB teams all know that the METS are going to match any offer to J.Bay, which is why no one is going after him a contract.

What makes you think the Knicks would have matched any offer to Nate? More mind reading here? VALUE is determined by Supply and Demand and in case of Nate Robinson the Demand was 0, so he is value is exactly the same.

And what makes YOU think they wouldn't have? Supply and demand?

Nate Robinson
17.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 29.9 minutes

Every team BUT the Knicks can use a player like this.

Fact is..Since they were both RFA, Knicks brass had all the leverage when dealing with Lee and Nate. They decided to let the other NBA teams dictate their value. With the economy and teams not wanting to over pay, no one stepped forward. Simple as that

So if every team is dying to use his talents why isn't Walsh flooded with trade proposals for Nate? I never said they wouldn't match any offers, I said there was no evidence that they would or wouldn't If you want to argue something please do not make assumptions of things not in evidence.

He is averaging 10.9 Points, 1.8 Rebs, 3.2 Assists, 1.58 Turnovers in 22 mins per game with 71% free throw shooting. Not quite as stellar as people make it out to be. And definitely not worth posing about on court. But his skill is not the reason clubs don't want him its his behavior which is not captured in the stats you love to reel off. Why would any team give up any value for him? They can easily sign him next year. At the start of the season Lee wasn't in any better a place than Nate in terms of the Knicks long term plans but he is showing how effort and good behaviour ARE rewarded by this coach. So enuff with this personal vedetta conspiracy theories.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Rasheed was traded for Zeljko Rebraca, Bobby Sura, and first rounder. I don't think he was highly touted as a player conducive to winning games.

Best five play.

If that was the case why was Duhon playing?

Not sure I understand why Duhon is being put in such light.

The dude is obviously deficient in many areas. No questions. Defense is so-so at best. Can't break down anyone one-on-one. Doesn't finish at the hoop very well. Jacks uo too many 3's that are 5 feet behind 3point line. Jacks up too many 3s at the wrong point in time.

BUT....

Top ten in assists in the NBA. Yeah, without so much as another all-star on his own team to help out. And plenty of chuckers with low FG% that don't help this category. Oh yeah, just beating out BJennings out in a per game category.

Assists per turnover? Top 6 in the league.

David Lee ain't creating his own shots man.
