at the suns game i was amazed at how capacity the crowd was. i struggled to sneak into "good" seats.

nyc has SOOOOO many people compared to say, memphis, who are big time nba fans who are international/casual followers who usually want to see players they know (i.e. like me who would go to see a big international soccer club and want to see the "stars" if i went).

nate fits the profile, especially for the youngins and uber-casual fans...hence the chants, imho.

That's exactly what it is, end of story. We are a better team without Nate.

nba = very close to international soccer/football, in terms of huge appeal to casual/celebrity following fans/supporters of the game. no american sport comes close.

today, outside the lines on espn attempted to (quite poorly) address the reality that most white players in the nba are NOT AMERICAN, and is at its lowest ever.

i think 8-9% of nba players are white american born, and 18% are international, vs. 72% are african-american.

the NBA IS THE INTERNATIONAL AMERICAN GAME.

NYC is THE INTERNATIONAL AMERICAN CITY, by far.

I see it all of the time in the nightlife and international young folks i meet. the rest of america is too suburban, rural, conservative (politically), and "american" for them.

europeans LOVE living in NYC more than many americans do, on average. for young europeans without debts like most post-college americans...what i often see is this group "hanging out/partying" and living in nyc for 6 months or so, until your visa runs out or your money, and "experience" it all.

that includes going to nba basketball games, which is why bad knick teams actually help the city, perhaps. if the knicks are good, average fans can't go to games. i see easily the most diverse crowds at knicks games than any sport, because the knicks are terrible, but the nba is our most appealing sport to non-americans outside of countries that have a baseball tradition.

nate is a known figure, regardless of how he hurts us as winning team, because the nba is an international product, even if it doesn't appeal to hardcore white american football loving fans who hate the nba.

to me, that's part of why we hear chants for nate, and the knicks as bad as they are, attract fans outside of diehards like most of us.

Is true, Pres. I know that my European-American friends don't care at all for basketball. It's usually the Europeans living here that are into it. I get strange looks sometimes when I say I like basketball.

I think we'll have a decent month in december.. Like some people said earlier; it looks as though the guys are figuring s**t out now.. And Harrington actually having 5 assists tonight!?

i just don't think it appeals, for a long list of reasons, to many white/euro-americans.

regardless, this was a good win, even if the nets are supposedly crap. they were beating us in the 1st half.

we adjusted to lopez nicely, and hughes was really a factor again.

i continue to take back my critiques of him in the pre-season. contract year or not, he's helping our team.

of course there are, not saying there aren't; but like you say, is more common for people born in Europe than European-Americans. Is a very popular sport there, probably second only to Soccer.

I was nervous about this game. So happy to get thus win. I knew that at some point the team would play better. We had too many guys slumping at the same time. Now even tho it's the one yr vets doing it, we really need these wins. There's just too much season left to give up and just play rooks. If we can somehow string some wins together we can still get into the playoff hunt.

JJ had a couple of drawn charges, one of which was absolutely critical late in the game. I know, his offense is brutal, but he does a lot of the little things that not many players want to do. Whether or not his presence is a net gain or a net loss, I don't know. But he does make SOME type of case.

devin harris has to figure out if he wants to be a point guard or a score all the points guard. 2-3 shots for a shooter like Courtney Lee the entire 2nd half against the zone is unacceptable pg play.

It's good to see us get the win again those putrid Nets.

Hopefully we will get another win tonight while the UK crew is in the house!

He's arguably the best player on that team. He's pretty much screwed.
