What is the downside to signing AI to a one year minimun contract? We can try him out and waive him if we don't like what he brings. You can't officially sign guys to 10-day contracts until Jan 5th, but we could always waive him after ten days if that is what we want.

This is the definition of low risk. What is at risk here? There's not much worse than 1-9 with Duhon.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

At this point, what do we really have to lose?

You don't actually think A.I. will sign a 10-day, do you? You think waiving A.I. would just another NBA transaction that would occur under the radar? He ain't Juan Dixon.

This move is risky because the Knicks could:
- lose focus on our youth while placating a star
- lose focus improving our defense issues
- lose sight of low-cost, low-risk upgrades
- give Marc Berman a new texting buddy

And how much better are you with him? 10 wins? Why waste the time?

Ok doc so youll be ok with watching this team lose 50 or 60games, if we are lucky. Come on I dont wanna watch this team in Feb with a record of 10 and 45. And im sure 99.9% of the posters and media would rip this apart and say in Feb "maybe that AI thing in Nov. wasnt such a bad idea after all" You really dont sound like a Knick fan, maybe a Net fan.

I find it amazing that with this club's recent history, people can't imagine how picking up Allen Iverson could not work out.

Other threads are killing Walsh because he didn't do his homework on Jennings or not making this trade or that. But if Walsh brought in A.I. and it turned into a cluster**** with tremors of bad press & disgruntled players into the offseason that these same people would give him a pass on that?

AI would score, and we might win a few more games, but he would do absolutely nothing to help develop the players and system we will retain after this year. I voted (emphatically) no. I agree he is a HOF guard, but we need to develop assets not win 32+ games. It's on the players and MDA. They need to care, and if they don't because they are all renters, then give max minutes to those who do. We will win a bunch of games. Our season = Utah's nice lottery pick next summer. But so what? We will have $27mil to spend, with another $18mil the next off season.

Develop the kids, bench the losers (e.g., Duhon), and let the vets scramble for the minutes they can get.

I am a long-suffering Knicks fan cooch, who hasn't seen us in a playoff game since the 20th century (was out the country in '00-'01). I am not OK with us losing 60 games, but I don't exactly see us having a .800 month either, so I'm resigned to it. I'm looking forward to career-high games from Gallo, TD, Hill... hell, even Darko.

IMHO, A.I. will not make us exponentially better as we imagine a LeBron would.

And if we pass on A.I. and he signs with someone else and he's still got it and we suck, will the grass be greener? Probably.

BUT THAT'S MY POINT!

Signing A.I. is a knee jerk response to a crappy start. If we are truly rebuilding, is this what a rebuilding team would do?

Sign AI, give him a chance, see what he does with the young kids and if it dont work out cut him.Its not rocket science here. And dont compare him to assbury because assburys contract was guaranted, AIS isnt. How do we lose in this deal??

we sign iverson, i quit UK. so you think about that when you vote on this poll. let's have another poll.

It would be a shame to lose you just to get Iverson, but it may be a sacrifice we'll have to make.

Walsh isn't getting blamed for anything if we sign AI. This team ****ing sucks! 1-9 and we have played the Bobcats, Pacers, Charlotte, Bucks and a number of ****ty teams. We have little to no talent and a small window to look respectable.

The problem with losing is simple it becomes a part of you. That's why this team stinks they expect to lose. Everyone on this team. What is Iverson going to destroy? We don't play defense and we can't score. He doesn't expect to lose he is a winner however crazy he maybe.

Sign the guy. You're not moving Jefferies Donnie because you ****ing blew that already. So bring in a guy that can help win a few games. The memphis thing didn't work. So what I'm not coming off the bench for Mike Conely either on a lottery team. I will take this guy for the rest of the year and then he can retire.

Imagine if you had told a Knicks fan after the winning the Toronto playoff series and then losing to Indiana that they would see Walsh become their GM, and their team would acquire Steve Francis, Steph, and AI in the next decade, but that they would not win another playoff game in the next decade.

The argument I'm hearing from the pro-A.I. is:

Sign A.I. for the remainder of the season because:

- this team sucks right now and I want to watch us with a former All-Star,
- it will lead to a few more wins than we are on track for, and more watchable games for Knicks fans, and that's what matters right now,
- the wins won't get us in the playoffs but his gritty play & winning desire will likely rub off on our yoots,
- if don't go well in the locker room we can just waive him,
- even if this worst-case scenario happens, it is very unlikely there could be negative ramifications for the upcoming offseason

Am I on target here?

Because I'm willing to concede the possibility of a Nate, Toney Douglas or Gallo catching a vibe offa A.I.'s swagger. Which may be a good or bad thing in the eye of the beholder.

I argue the 10 extra wins (tops) don't do much. A shallow "feel good" losing season that ends in April based on rent-a-talent.

But who can convince me that D'Antoni & his system will benefit from this transaction? Because along with our yoots, he's supposed to be here next year too.

And do you really want that media circus? I wouldn't put it past the Post to plant guns on this man, they would have such a hard-on to make this guy look like a thug.

Doc did you say yoots?? So you would be satisfied with the Knicks ending the season at 11 and 71?? Are you kidding me??

The argument that I would use for bringing him in would be to make the offense function the way it's designed to. If AI can draw a defender instead of having them sag back like they do with Hughes, there's a possibility that everyone could play better... a possibility.

dump Duhon & sign AI... at veteran's minimum dollars it's a no brainer... AI is not Stephon Marbury guys, no matter how hard u try & paint that picture... players actually respect AI in the NBA, & he can still play at a very high level... Marbury is a certifiable nutcase who's game left him years before he started swallowing vaseline and dancing to Barbie Girl on internet videos.

AI is not the model coach's dream, no question, but he's not gonna be signed for a longterm deal here... u want a model coach's player, then keep Duhon & play him max minutes... let's see how better off this team is going that route... come on fellas, let's get real here... Duhon was always a stopgap solution, he filled his purpose last year, this year he's not... we need to find a new stopgap option, & AI is the best one available.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
