Bender was a trade - Antonio Davis was sent to the Raptors for him before the 2009 season.

1999.

dude, now I know you are kinda stretching things to see if it will fit your argument.

Did Walsh draft Toney Douglas or did the Lakers?

I'll give you Bender. Does that really make him a gunslinging shoot for the stars GM?

Indiana aside from the Artest/Jax days always seemed like one of the more conservative teams in the league. It was like a contest between them and the Jazz to see how many white dudes they could cram into a roster.

Qualifyfor me:

Reggie Miller over Steve Alford.
The trade for high school kid and he of little playing time Jermaine Oneal.
Drafting the first high school kid in the Al Harrington draft.

Walsh did preside over one of the better teams during the 90s. Generally, you tweak, you don't massively overhaul (which would lead to risk-taking).

His latest risk: Taking on the Knicks! Drafting Gallo!

Drafting your coach's friend's kid... yeah I guess you could call that a ballsy move. Not exactly the kind that I'm looking for from my GM.

Miller, 22 years ago, but yeah, great pick.

Can we stop debating Walsh's draft chops? Are you going to tell me he's a great talent evaluator Martin? That is clearly not the case. Has he made some decent picks... sure. In 22 years, he's made a few.
