...Patty Mills or Dante Cunningham at 29...

I'll be surprised if Mills is there at 29. He would, however, be an excellent choice, esp. if we don't get at guard at 8. I'm not sure Mills is a starter but he has a fine handle and he's a very able defender. Off the shelf, he's a nice backup for Duhan.

Has anyone read the specifics on the acquisition?
I'm seeing a number of people saying we traded a 2011 2nd rounder for this pick as well.

The only thing that will disgust me here if we reach for Jack McClinton--otherwise an interesting diversified player could fall here

Why is he a reach? The guy is a dead on 3pt shooter (45%) on a team without much talent (sound familiar?). He can't finish but as a shooter he is as good as they come (at 5'11" anyway) and is instant offense off the bench. He could at least replace Nate's outside shooting, but clearly not his finishing.
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jack-McClinton-5304/
snippet:
[quote]Despite playing on a bad team with few other scoring options, McClinton was the most efficient shooting guard in our database at 1.08 PPP. He also ranked second in logged FG% at 47%, on a very respectable 18.6 possessions per game. Showing clear-cut limitations as a finisher around the basket (2nd worst amongst all SGs in fact), McClintons best asset is his jump shot. He was above average in PPP in his 1.9 guarded catch and shoot shots per game at 1.09, but was off the charts at 1.8 PPP on 2.5 unguarded catch and shoot shots per game. He was also the best pull up shooter in our database at 1.08 PPP on 5.5 shots per game.

Though he didnt stand out on the pick and roll or in transition, McClintons 1.07 PPP on 4 isolation possessions per game lead us to believe that he has most of the raw tools required to be an excellent threat to score off the bench. He shot over 50% in one-on-one situations driving in either direction, making him the most balanced player on our list. Even though he took a lot of threes, McClinton still scored on a higher percentage of his logged possessions than any other two at 47%. Though hell need to expand his range a bit and show that he can produce at the same level he did this season, it isnt inconceivable that he develops into an Eddie House type player down the road.

Notice the things I highlighted, he is up there when rating players offensively. D.E. has him going pick 29 in round 1! eheh

EMS

Why would I get hot in my pants about a 6-1 shooting guard who primarily shoots 3's and is already 24 years old? Didnt we give Roberson a million dollars--are you going to tell me we are spending 3mm on this kid we couldve EASILY taken well into round 2?

Come on let me in the door and I will draft us a much better player witha blind fold

He has 14 Field goal attempts per game, 7 of which are 3pters, so clearly he doesn't take just 3 pters. The difference between him and Roberson (or rather "Robbed-us-some") is that Roberson was good in practice. This kid did it all year long.

Basketball don't get me hot in my pants anyway, it's just a game to me. I'm thinking of what this team needs considering we all know that they are planning on Lebron. We want people who can shoot. We can still buy more picks if need be. I'm hoping one of them could be for Mullens...

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/teams/stats?teamId=57&year=2004

Learn through experience--small SGs are usually busts. If we spent that much money on him--I would say insane and shouldve given it to charity and found a pick around 45 for 2.5mm less. This is the Knicks showing off their wallet like they always do if this really is the pick.

Yes real NBA athleticism shown at 1:12

What are you talking about? What clip at 1:12?? One was a straight-away 3 off a curl and the other was a semi-brakeaway layup vs. Clemson where he was ahead of the field. That's all you got from those clips? I don't know what to tell you my smug little friend...

Hey fin--I thought you were bigger than resorting to personal attack. The guy is not very athletic--Im just telling the truth. No need for that stuff--

Dumb move you have to give a guaranteed contract in a terrible draft. Get Portland 32 pick and you only guarantee one year.

you try to grab the highest pick you can any time you can so you can get the player you want. Most high level second rounders are guaranteed 2 years anyway.

Does anyone think we've overpaid for this pick? $3mm and our 2010 2nd rounder - which is probably not going to be that far down in the 2nd round.

Then how can they know it will be the *29th* pick. They're reporting that we got the 29th pick from the Lakers, and the year is not specified.

We traded LA a 2nd rounder in 2011 + cash for #29 tonight.

Oh, I got it now. My bad. Did we purchase the 28th pick too or was that a false report?

See, that's why some peoples idea of building for 2010 is so dumb. They think it's important to avoid building an actual team at all costs for the sake of that .0001% chance of getting LeBron.
I haven't read every thread but I don't remember anyone saying that!

i do.

You're really lost, Bonn.

First, the reports are mixed, some say we just bought it, others include a second round selection in 2011. Guess we won't know for sure until the Lakers select for us, but its still our pick now.

The 28th pick is an option, but wasn't officially bought and who knows if getting #29 changes plans.

Stay tunned.

huh? That doesn't contradict what I said. It was reported in another thread that we DID buy the 28th pick, though, but that might have been a false report.

Fair enough. Hahn's report that it was finalized was false, then. That's all I was asking previously.
