I can see it now

Dude, Donny just traded Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley for Lebron!!! You know Lebron is going to get injured and we gave up 2 shooting gards to get him????? Who's going to back him up, Nate???? Nate is going to be gone because Donnie was too stupid to sign him early and now we are going to lose him for nothing. Plus Wilson can't play the 2 because he just had surgery and his career is over most likely. If Donnie was smart he would have demanded a second round pick and then drafted a 2 guard. So now, stupid Donnie trades for Lebron and now we are going to be stuck with Q playing the 2 again. I hate being a Knick fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm with you. This thread is freaking hysterical. Only a Knick fan would be dissapointed that we bought a draft pick, the year after we were begging to buy draft picks.

Is it really 2 years guaranteed for 2nd round picks? I know they put this in for what Arenas did but I thought it was only one year guaranteed with team options for the next 3 years.

No. What I was saying was early 2nd rounders are signing contracts that are similar to the 1st round contracts but for less $. Not all are getting 2 years guaranteed.

the funny thing is - we probably won't get this pick in the end and the same people will be complaining that Walsh didn't "try hard enough" to buy a pick.

Its crazy, 'cause for years cats have been screaming for the Knicks to buy late round picks around here. Finally Walsh does exactly that, and he's stupid?

But wouldn't that be legit. Last year he said he wasn't able to buy one but you had teams doing just that. So I don't know, maybe he isn't quick to the phone as others.

Or maybe none of us have a clue what went on in the war room last year and none of us have a clue this year. It's not something to get worked up on.

i was under the assumption he was in talks to buy a pick for Chalmers but Chalmers got picked before the pick he was lining up to buy for, so it would have made no sense to buy the pick when the target had been drafted already? yes/no?

True but it is frustrating to hear how my team has a rough time of just buying one pick when you have a team like Portland throwing cash around for picks. I like the idea of picking up this late pick.

I agree that it is frustrating and I wish we got an extra pick last year too b/c I also would have liked to have Chalmers or CDR. But we just don't know if Donnie was busting his butt trying to get a pick and someone came with something different and better, or if Donnie was being "too patient" or "Lazy" or if crzys scenario was really the case. It's why I'm not getting worked up.

i agree. though the draft is a time for hope and it's too bad that most of our draft hopes happen before the draft and get shattered as the draft unfolds. can't wait to watch!

But we assume the worst, so if he can't pull it off, it must be because he was sleeping.

Back to square one:
Apparently David Kahn vehemently denied the selling of the 28th to the Knicks today. Said it was one of many options.

Bummer

Just because nothing happened does not mean Donnie was lazy. The man does his job. You can bet he looked to acquire a pick. Either there wasn't one available to him or he felt the price was too high. To assume he sits at home doing nothing is just flat out wrong on so many levels but the usual suspects will of course suggest as much just to make noise.

Donnie has been trying since day 1 to improve our situation. He's done quite well so far. Just because something does not happen doesn't mean he was being lazy or afraid to act. His job is to improve us and he's doing very well so far.

If a deal doesn't go down it certainly isn't due to him not doing his job. That's all too easy to say I feel.

What do ya'll think about UNC Danny Green for the 28? Seems like the type of player Pringles will be all over.

He would be a good choice late in round one or early in round 2.

JRothstein from ESPN Radio says the Knicks tried to get Memphis' pick at 27, so they're obviously targeting someone there.

DraftExpress has Buddinger going at 28. He would be a steal if he was there and I think would do great in MDA's system.

I just wanna chime in here for a sec. You see, I knew it wouldn't be that simple to just buy late picks in this draft like they were going out of style. It's been done before and it could very well happen again multiple times thru tomorrow night, but I gotta believe teams also realize that there are good players here late in this draft. No matter how bad the economy is or how tight a team's owner is for cash, the NBA is a business and the main focus is to make your product as attractive, as good and as deep as possible. Assembling a team to compete for a playoff spot and ultimately for a championship. You get your product in order then the money, the big money, will be there. There's some real good players in this draft 25-60 - guys that can help, guys that are much more important in the big scheme of things than 3 million dollars in some owner's pocket. That's the fan in me talking I guess. May not be every owner's take on this but I bet it's the majority. If not then why didn't this 28th pick for 3 mil. thing go down yet? Why didn't we get the 27th for cash that was first reported a couple of weeks ago?
