For the record there was more hype surrounding Marbury than there will ever be around Rubio. How did that turn out?

It turned out that he had all the physical tools and skill set to dominate the NBA game and seemed to be destined for greatness through his first 4 years as a pro. Then he shot himself in the foot 12 times.

oohah

Doesnt' that just prove my point?

Arent you guys supposed to have each other on the ignore button you created Bip?

Actaully Bippity, I think Kenny Anderson or Marbury would have been more impressive than Rubio at the same stage. That is the nature of the game they played, they did things that other players could only dream about.

But the Olympics and the NBA is not the same animal. Coaches look to abuse specific players. It happened to Kenny Anderson, not so much Marbury. I see Rubio getting his ass torn for about 3 years before he is ready to do real work in the NBA.

I agree about Marbs and Kenny pure talent they should have been stars. Kenny had a nice career but overtime showed some flaws despite his incredible one on one ability. Marbs had hall of fame talent but a horrible attitude and sabotaged himself. That's why when we analyze playerswe look at the entire picture. Sometimes we are wrong, sometimes we are right because you don't know how a player will react when he is faced with instant cash and fame.

Back to Rubio. Ignore the people who say he is the greatest player ever based on his Olympic performance. Ignore the people that say he is a flop based on beign European. Pay attention to the people giving honest assessments of his game. He is not being bumped to the stratosphere because of his Olympic performance. He is being looked at as a top pick because of his professional play as a young player PLUS the fact that he went on the world stage and played well in heated competition against the 12 best players in the world. Not 12 NBA players, the best the NBA had to offer. Now, he didn't come in and shake people off the dribble and dunk in anyone's face. But what he showed, was a poise, leadership and the ability to run the offense under immense pressure. You think marbs was going to do that at 17? He proved he couldn't do it at 27.

There is evidence that Rubio, Jennings, Lawson, Flynn etc can all play. There is evidence that they can all succeed. But they still have to prove it. The scouts have all said that Rubio may be the best in the group but that there is no surefire star in this draft(they even say this about Griffin). So I'm not sure why anyone would say that anyone in this draft is being overhyped. It seems to be an overreaction to positive comments made about a player they don't like.
I just hope that people will like me

i remember when rubio stole that inbounds pass from isiah - that's where the legend was born.

and he only solidified it when he went up for a layup in the finals on the lakers but had to switch from his right to left hand midflight to make the shot.

but my fondest memory of rubio is when he grabbed chris kaman's nuts going for a rebound.

rubio = greatness...
