If there is a market for his playing services and knowing how desperate teams are for financial relief, why wasn't Marbury and his $20M expiring contract traded last week?
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

What do you think he would have bought back to the team in a trade that would be of value?

We could have gotten Jermain O'neil. Another year on the contract. With Tax its double the contract. So 20mil turns to 40mil.

If you can get Amare by using Dlee and expiring thats a different story.

$21.8 million is like a third or a quarter of most team's entire payrolls, that's not easy to match. and raef and wally's expiring contracts weren't moved either.

As far as I'm concerned, he should've given back his entire salary since he joined the Knicks for being such a moronic cancer.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Donnie already elaborated on that & said he'd gotten a few calls, but obviously the garbage coming back served us no good anyways, so he must've passed... come on dude, do u really think Donnie wouldn't have traded him if he'd have gotten some kind of half decent offer for him?

I actually agree with this. Grudges are unhealthy anyway.
And it's definitely not the case that Marbury is 100% at fault and the Knicks organization is 0% at fault for the mess that developed between the two.

Marburys gone. What did we get for him?? This was handled all wrong. We should have played him and built up his rep and then trade him. What difference would it have made?
We only got 23 wins and it might have made D Lee and Nates value a little lower so we could have made a better resign deal with them. I can't see why everyone is jumping for joy and once again we got screwed again while Marbs just might get a ring and may play against us so who really gets the last laugh?? Marbs does and we can go in denial and dont care when we really do and if we don't care, then thats why we are in the situration we are in today. We give everything away for free just because we are mad and we take back garbage.

What did we get for him? He came off the books. Unless a deal really fell into our laps why take on salary anymore?

Marbury gave up 2mil. So he finally figured it out. He wants his freedom, he had to pay for it. No player gets full money and a chance to play somewhere. They all take a cut and move on.

What did we get? Nothing.

There was nothing to be gained, but we kept our options open. Unless he was willing to take a cut why grant him a favor. He really did not even come close to living up to his contract. He was a disaster.
Papabear Says
Like I said we let our emotions get in the was of being smart business men. We got nothing for him. What is 2 million when he should have given up twice that much.

He did squat for us but cause controversy and torpedo seasons. I can't root for him and I really want whatever team he goes to to lose just because I don't like him at all! That being said, if he goes to a team, plays his arse off, does what the coach says and behaves and they win a title, he deserves it like everyone else on the team.

On a side note, if he does win a title:
1.) he is going to be insufferable
2.) Nothing worse than a guy destroying your team for 3 years and then winning a title. That would eat at me.
Papabear Says
I agree!

Yeah what if he does? Its one game he will win and we will lose. One effing wont change the history of this franchise will it? But towelhead did just that while he was here. 1 game versus 4 seasons of 33 wins, you figure it out.

If only that were true. He came into camp saying he would not come off the bench in NY and it took him 10 days to change his mind, and only after Crawford told him no player can be bigger than the franchise. He came into camp still not quite understanding that. He'd have been a self-absorbed diva punk this year, just like every other.

Blue, you must let that hate go, man. The Knicks got rid of their headcase only to trade for another's team's headcase. It's not about right and wrong no more.

So because they traded him it gives you permission to write revisionist history about him?

There is no revisionist history. Marbury said he was willing to back up Duhon. He said he would like to start. What's the big deal here. Let it go. Have a Coke. Wish him the best. It's over.
