Briggs with the genius again. He compares Lee and bone spurs in his ankle to Gallinari and his back condition. First off Lee could walk, that's why he was STILL PLAYING with his injury. It wasn't that serious or else he would have been on the sideline. And iron man Lee has sat out a game due to the flu. If Gallinari did this he would be lambasted on here. Bottom line is a back problem is one of the worst to have. Bip mentioned why but I also don't agree with his reasoning. It IS because it's one of the most painful. You cannot move your upper body without feeling pain, run without feeling pain, make any movement without feeling pain. The spine is a very tender part of the body and must be treated with caution. You people are not doctors and neither am I but at least get educated on some things before you call "fake injury."

GKv i agree a bad back is horrible, and you are 100% correct. But I still stand by my words. I had back pain. The pain was horrible. I was useless. I lost the game I love for a year. But the worst part about it was everyone saying that you were healthy and that you were faking it. You simply can't prove back pain. So no one believes you. Anyone who has never had back pain will say "play through it". Anyone that has had real back pain will tell you "when you think you are feeling better, rest even longer".

I don't know why we're wasting time discussing Gallinari. He's got a bad back at 19. He got injured after what - one summer league game? That's not a good sign.

All the more reason not to rush him back.

Gallo's a bust. He's from Europe and European players and the Knicks don't mix.

Frederic Wes
Milos Vujanic

Now you can add Gallinari to the list.

I'm gonna keep saying he's a bust because then I'll have something to argue with people about and that'll boost my anemic post count.

That strategy is brilliant. Try a couple "bring Marbury back" posts as well. You should be at 10,000 by next week.

Sebstar, I don't know you but are you F'in kidding me? Did you ever graduate high school? Junior High? What an ignorant statement.

You know what. You're too slow. Yeah, you pissed me off. Trying to punk me out and insult my intelligence just because you disagree with something I wrote. Bytchmade.

What specifically caused the injury? Is this something they knew about before they drafted him, or is he damaged goods. He got bumped in a preseason game and we have hardly seen him since.

Why the hell do you think there are so many flops in the NBA? It’s not because of talent, more often than not. Its because the NBA is a man's league and people just don’t want to deal with the rigueur and ungodly physical demands of the league night in and night out for 82 games. Some players just get all the money they can and dip. It happens more than you think, but because the media has pushed this lazy, primadonna, stereotype of NBA players people think the NBA is a glorified YMCA pick up game.
Besides disagreeing with what you said it just didn't make sense from a medical standpoint. He has a back problem and you are telling him to be a man and play through it. And then call him a puss if he doesn't play? You call that an educated statement? No way did you graduate magna cum unless its some community college. If its from a real college then you plagerized and cheated through. Again you make no sense in this post. In one part you call the NBA a "mans league" but then site the reason is the number of flops. Real men wouldn't flop. You just don't make sense. Try to make reasonable points that people can follow.

You're definitely a moron. Thats for sure.

You're operating under the premise that the back injury IS SEVERE enough to keep him out of action for so long. Its a disputable point, its not a fact. You or I dont know, so your logic, if you want to call it that, is completely faulty.

^ sebstar , you have obviously never had a back injury.

I'm not going to come in here with my war stories, we've all had injuries. I just want answers about Gallo. Specific answers. This is not about me.

he took Cortisone shots a while back and is on an 8 week program or whatever. He was targeted for late January full time practice.

A lot of players take Cortisone shots to play in a game that night so I'm not falling over on my chair. And we have heard a lot of lip service about him "getting ready" for practices for awhile now. I'm up to my limit with this.

excellent. you've moved on to the pouting, it's-all-about-me stage. congrats.

The kid is getting over a million dollars guranteed.

and?

whatever, dog. I've already stated my opinion and why I feel the way I do. If you want to make it personal and get emotional then I'll just duck out now before I get pissed and get banned.

most all of the contracts in the NBA are guaranteed, so that ain't a special reason just to play. I don't know, maybe POR should have played Oden 6 months after his knee surgery, you know, cause of his guaranteed $3+M he was making.

It's nothing personal nor am I even remotely emotional. I am gonna call you out on some waaaayyyy irrational logic.

The difference is Oden required surgery to repair his injury. Obviously you are satisfied with the explanations and timetables given for Gallo and you're giving him the benefit of the doubt. Cool. I'm not. Im completely suspicious given his age, the fact that there wasn't an identifiable trauma, and the length of time he is out for what has been described as "lingering pain". I mean, he might as well retire now if his body is that wrecked for no real apparent reason.

I think there is more to the story and he, or the organization, might be milking this for some reason. We'll see.

Oh snaps...just noticed something with this drivel. I was wondering why it was so confusing. When I said "flops" I was talking about busts or players that dont pan out. I wasnt talking about the physical action of a Ginobli. I think that was pretty clear in the context of the post. God, you really are dumb.

I think what was frustrating about this pick is that there was so much known talent available that would have helped this team. I think Briggs was right when he called this, the Knicks getting fancy with the pick. The last time this happened the next guy picked was Rondo. I also am not convinced that this was a D'Antoni pick. I remember D'Antoni looking like a deer in the headlights on draft night when they interviewed him after the pick was made. Walsh blew this one unless the pick was decided before he was hired. You can look at the entire first round from this draft and my guess is that at least 3/4 of these guys will have a more productive career than Gallo. It doesn't help when the other local team gets Lopez, Anderson and CDR.

it's weird but people say the Knicks understandably passed on EG because he was an undersized SG, & yet they blame Walsh for not taking Bayless over Gallinari.

I'm as impatient as everyone else because I want to see what Gallo is as a player, but if the kid can't play then he cant play right now.

Why does everyone have to be so quick to rush to judgment about Gallo being a failed pick. Just so they can be right? If he comes back and plays well, the same people spouting off on him will just say "I was hoping he'd play for us, that's all I wanted" so it really doesnt matter. Everyone has their asses covered here by claiming Knicks fandom if he plays well and if he doesn't you can brag about how he was a bust pick before even watching him play a second in the NBA.

Why can't everyone just wait and see?

I have to admit that even if I did not believe that Gallinari was a decent pick and believe he will be a fine player if healthy... in fact, even if I hated him for some reason, I would be rooting for him to recover and become a decent player just so I could see how some of you will deal with it. It will make for some interesting reading, given the fact that many have some rather strong hate for the guy. I will bet that some of you are actually hoping (secretly, of course) that he does flop, so that it verifies your rather childish views about playing with injuries, European players, and life in general.

I had a rotator cuff injury that I got while wrestling my heavyweight years ago. I was in some major pain but I decided not to go to the doctor at the time and gutted it out. A week later I thought I was better and I was working with a kid my size and I did a simple move which is puts your arm through the same motion as a hook shot, but with a guy draped over your arm. Big mistake. Put me in a painful situation for a number of months and I finally had an MRI which showed a partial tear. I could not even hold up my arm to put up notes in my classes (my students seemed to like this fact), and of course, I stopped doing anything physical in a wrestling room. Playing through the pain and not getting immediate medical treatment was idiotic on my part, but I was the tough guy and did not realize what I was putting my body through. I wish that I had thought things out a little more back then.

As some of the more rational, and less defiant posters have said, why not wait a few years before reaching a final conclusion about Gallinari. Why not hold back some of your harsh words, irrationality, and crazy conspiracies now, so that in 3 years, if the Rooster turns out to be a chicken, your renewed attacks on him will seem more fresh and original?

Just a thought.

If fans are saying we want the player on the court--we want him to succeed. This has been 7.5 years of excuses with the highest payroll every year. This was a risky pick when we had a potential 20-10 C drop unexpectedly and we needed one. I think the disappointment of this scenario with Gallinari has only angered some fans more. You only came around when Gallinari was picked--so I'm guessing you may be new to the scene and had a hand in picking Gallinari or know him personally--so you are touchy when people are critical as I have noticed. How about taking into account what has been going on here with the yearly incompetence embarrassment and failure of this team which the fans have had to endure? Right now Gallinari is a bust pick until proven otherwise when we are talking bottom line. I don't understand why he is taking so long to heal at 19 years old. This is a sign of mental and physical softness--traits we don't need. Showing some heart and playing through it--even just a little bit would atleast show a sign of toughness. You have to just go do it.

I guess one of my issues is that this was not a pick to get tricky with. There were very good known players available at 6 that could have helped the Knicks for the next decade. The team won 23 games. I think Gallo was a reach and a risk. I don't think Walsh did his homework. He said he had only seen Gallo some on tape. D'Antoni never endorsed the pick and there were articles in the papers where he was quoted as saying he had to be convinced. I don't think you get tricky or take a chance when you are a 23 win team that needed so much help. I don't think anyone wants Gallo to fail. I know I just wanted the organization to be responsible with the pick. I don't think they were. They didn't have to take a risk or be tricky. Especially when it doesn't appear that the GM scouted him and the coach didn't want him over other guys available.

I can understand 99% of your post until you say things like:
I know I just wanted the organization to be responsible with the pick. I don't think they were.

I just don't get how you can come to that conclusion yet when he hasn't played. I know the fact that he hasnt played is unnerving, but you're basing your opinion on nothing really.

I am basing my opinion on the fact that the coach didn't endorse the pick, the gm didn't throughly scout the pick, and the pick is an unkown in comparison to the other guys available who were as close to can't miss as the draft can provide. I don't think you reach, or take a chance with the 6th pick after winning 23 games in a deep draft. I believe it was draftnet that predicted Gallo as the most likely bust from the lottery. I don't think that was a stretch. I also don't think the Knicks were in a position to take risks or chances with the pick.

I am unwilling to reach a definitive conclusion on a guy who has not really stepped on the court for us. I also react to premature judgments made without any real understanding of the kid's injury. I have written enough about injuries other players have had, and as I mention above, my own situation a number of years back to know that you have to judge injuries case by case, and it is usually better to be cautious than rash.

I have to say that some of the statements I read on this site sound like they can be coming from the 17 and 18 year old kids I have to listen to in my school. None of us, including me, really know about Gallinari's injury, other than the little snippets of info the Knicks leak out, yet that does not stop some of you from making statements so far from reality that I have to laugh at the ignorance they are coming from.

Wait and watch. I have been a fan since 1967, so I have put up with things a lot longer than most of you guys. We have no control over this injury, what the Knicks have done in the past, or what they will do in the future. I like to read things which make me think, but a lot of the stuff relating to the pick of this kid comes from ignorance and foolish speculation, and when I see this I am compelled to comment.

And yes, I think some people want this pick to fail because they think it will validate their basketball fan IQ. If he turns out to be a stud, a lot of you are going to look foolish.

I prefer to wait, watch, and hope.

None of us, including me, really know about Gallinari's injury, other than the little snippets of info the Knicks leak out, yet that does not stop some of you( Sebstar, Sebstar, Sebstar) from making statements so far from reality that I have to laugh at the ignorance they are coming from.

I prefer to wait, watch, and hope.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

As some of the more rational, and less defiance posters have said, why not wait a few years before reaching a final conclusion about Gallinari.
