More food for thought....Let's say LeBron resigns, why wouldn't a guy like Bosh sign with Cleveland for a shot at winning it all...They will have the money available....

And how does that help us?

Who says anything about that helping us...The point being that 90% of this board is looking forward to 2010 and we could end up with nothing ...

That makes absolutely no sense in what you just said. It's like saying 'I'm going to the store to buy things, knowing there is nothing in the store'!!! eekgag! ha, ha, ha!

Knick fans are losers and in the dark about everything. Our lifetime record reflects that. We're all losers no matter what any of us say. We have blind pride and virtually zero tradition. One of our own put a stake through our hearts, for chicago and another ****ing chicagoan came here and absolutely destroyed what we had left. It was all planned. Look at all the losers he accumulated who either are from chicago or who had some kind of connection to that backwards place. We suck! Plain and simple.

The mentality says it all. The demented ideology of what to do next is all backwards. Two very smart men in Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni recognize this and they'll have their work cut out for them to even change minds in this city. That's if they even care to stick around long enough. I tried so hard to bring a common sense but been beat'n down so bad with idiocy that I can no longer take it. This is a last ditch effort to show the mare, but I too am foolish for even trying. What an absolutely ****'n mess basketball is in NYC! I mean seriously!!!
I'll never trust this' team again.

SO??

If you and the rest want to be shortsighted in terms of 2010, calling it bust if we don't get LeBron, fine. But 2010 only means the first year that we are really under the salary cap. Doesn't have to mean that we have to get every star or player that year.

This type of shortsighted thinking is what makes rebuilding difficult in NY.

Thank God our GM and Coach are ready to be patient.

What is it with u guys come to this board looking for division and arguments...If u took a minute to look at my posts in this thread, you would see that I'm an advocate of being patient and building through the draft if we don't get what we need in 2010...Where can you find evidence of me being otherwise????....

Please see my response to Earl at 10.24 am...

zach and JC were just preventing this team from making future moves.

Exactly. See, even if we fail to cash in the 2010 FA market the fact of the matter is we threw our hat into the ring. Had we not done that then we never had any chance to be anything other than a dysfunctional group that would continue to ABSOLUTELY win only 30-odd games for three full years.

Now, we're going to have some tough times, but we're also competative enough to be that same 30-odd-wins team each of the next two seasons - ANDDDDDDDDD... we threw our hat into the 2010 ring where maybe we can make some noise and come away with something special!

See, now it's just about patience. Nothing more. While we wait for 2010 we will continue to install the MikeD system in the players we have - and develop the young kids we like - while we continue to try to shed 2011 salaries. Then when 2010 comes we will have a nice role playing core of kids, who are well versed in a firmly entrenched MikeD system, of which we can then add FAs to.

I really don't see the problem people have with this new plan of action. I just don't. The old team was going nowhere AND had no flexibility. Today we're going nowhere but we're more fun to watch, we're a more respectable franchise, and we've given ourselves a chance to improve dramatically as time goes forward.

The whole worry over Crawful and Zach trades...and who we got back... and why hasn't Walsh pulled off more megadeals to make us better... my god it's playoffs or bust.

I just can't fathom it. It's almost borderline irrational thought.

TMS you think every free agent is going to flock to NYC in 2010 because of the Knicks. I think most of these guys would rather use New York as a bargaining chip then come here. Please tell me the reason they would come to NYC. The reason not to come here.
1. You take a pay cut even though if you win you make it up in endorsements.
2. Knicks havent won anything in 35 years. 13 other franchises have
3. They would have to uproot their family to move to a city not really child friendly.
4. Who would you be playing with
5. Ownership known to make bad decisions
6. Does the Knicks really take care of the greats that played here? Where is Patrick Ewing since he is the only HOF you have had in 30 years?
New York is a great city but dont act like it is the only city to play basketball on earth.

i dunno where u get the idea that i said every FA is going to flock to NYC... i said the plan was to have OPTIONS to target FA's in 2010... if u'r for that plan then i dunno why u'r complaining right now... on the other hand, if you don't want to have those options in 2010 then go ahead & lock up D Lee, Nate & every other player on our roster to longterm extensions cuz u ain't gonna win jack sh_t w/this team as currently constructed... i can't fathom why anyone wouldn't be for that plan unless u'r just a glutton for punishment.

I like where we are at right now with our flexibility.

We may get a 4.5mil injury exception which we will be able to trade.

We have All Harrington who has a very cap friendly contract and is averaging 22pts 7rebs. At the deadline teams like Chi & Portland could be very very very interested in Harrington. In the offseason a team like Memphis could be interested in Harrington.

Chi - Hughes and 2 draft picks for Harrington
Portland - Harrington & the 4.5exception for LaMarcus Aldridge.
Memphis- Darco Milicic and there lottery pick.

Im a big fan of Lee, but he is replaceable. Truthfully we should have Mayo instead of Lee right now if Lee didn't nix the Memphis deal.

Robinson and Lee both have qualifying offers. So the owners of there rights would be able to match any offer.

Malik Rose who has an expiring contract we can offer to a team who has a player with 1.5yrs left to save them money from 7.6mil to 15mil depending on there salary cap situation and we can add a draft pick.

Tim Thomas we can look to swap for a scrub with the same contract for a future pick or something. Brian Cardinal comes to mind.

That plus the fact that we are still playing competitive ball other then that last game vs the Bucks.

Funny I met Joe myself and he claimed that Altanta was the place for him. Says that he loves the city and its lifestyle. Maybe I caught him on a good night in Atlantic Station.

Lebron is saying he will consider. That does not say anything. He is eligable to consider an extension.

He is also saying the absolute right thing to keep the question of opting out to a minimum. He at best can neutralize this 2010 mania.

Also, The charlotte Hornets picked Kobe at the 14 pick and they traded him for a relativly good Vlade Divac. It still took Kobe 2 years and a shaq. Kobe is great but he was not the superman he has been the last few years. Great player, but not MVP Kobe. They had a nice team around him. Horry was still in his prime and fischer was really good. My point, the lakes rebuilt and it was not over nite.

If gallo pans out, and we get a good pick, a few good trades and develop things could be good for a long time. Add an allstar or two, even better.

2010 is a long time off. Lebron does not even have to opt out. he can extend or stay an extra year or two if he feels they are close.
