that would be a GREAT trade. Mobley is better than Crawford. He actually defends. Yes he's older.. so what. Thomas/Harrington/Chandler are all a bit redundant but can also all slide between the 2/3/4 in MDA's offense. Plus you clear massive space for 2010 while still fielding a team talented enough to win games.

it's a fine trade for 2010 but if you think Mobley is better than Crawford i don't think you've seen mobley play for about five years.
Mobley can still play, and he actually defends out there some. He gets his hands on passes, he gets some steals and he still drill that jumper. The contract status is perfect also. You dont have to deal with the ??? of Crawford opting out and totally clears your cap space for 2010.

weren't you arguing against the cap space approach? i mean, i'm fine with it. there's just no one left on the team i care about and the idea of trading for tim thomas again makes me sick.
no... I am against the cap space approach to the extent of giving up assets just to get cap space. I love the idea of having the *option* of enticing 2 star FAs like the Magic did with Hill and TMac at the same time.

But I think trading away good productive players and even giving up picks to do so (as was suggested by some) is terrible management.

If we can move Zach/Crawford/fodder and get back 3 guys that will come in here and fit into MDAs system than I see that as a great possitive.

3 Team Deal?

http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/2008/11/threeway_deal.html

Just heard this seconds ago...

The Knicks, Warriors and Clippers are talking about a three-way deal that would involve Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins being sent in a cap-space clearing move that would bring in Tim Thomas, Cuttino Mobley and Al Harrington.

The contracts on all three incoming players expire in 2010.

Trying to confirm this now.

Stay tuned . . .

That is a great big dump! Excellent!

We have proven you can't win with Craw. He won't opt out unless someone gives him an extension. And if he does, it make him tradable now.

Zach has value now. We are not giving up any picks to dump him.

TT again? Cat? Harrington? All guys that can run and gun, and are "hired" for the short term. All guys that don't win, but have value the closer to their expiring too.

Be patient. This is one of many moves that will happen before 2010. It won't all come together at once. Walsh knows what he is doing.

It makes sense in the long term. But this is essentially a throw away for this season.

Just keeping it real

arkrud - can you please define what a "real" Knicks fan is?

Real Knicks fans as opposed to imitation, counterfeit, knockoff or bootleg Knicks fans?

help me out here

Its not as much of a throwaway as we think, if D'Antoni can get Curry to get in shape and buy in (we've seen it from the other guys, so I wouldn't dismiss it).

SG- Nate/Mobley/Thomas
PG- Duhon/Nate
SF- Chandler/Thomas/Q
PF- Harrington/Lee/Thomas
C-Curry/Lee/Jeffries

It's not a terrible lineup and there is some balance/athleticism there. If Curry can provide some inside scoring punch, we actually have more shooting than what we lost with Craw

That being said, I'm not gonna try to say its a good lineup. But it can tread water while keeping the core intact.

I think any suggestion that Curry has a future w/ this team is off base.

I would like to go on record that I like Zach. If it wasn't for his contract I would like to keep him. He plays hard and his talent is under-rated. I just hope we could get at least 1 young player or a #1 draft pick back in the trade.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Oh, that's right! I forgot to complete my registration as A Real Knicks Fan! Silly me!

And how dare The Real Knicks Fans question the trades Isiah Thomas made! And how dare I want this team to remain competitive this year and shed salary! How dare I!

I must apologize to all The Real Knicks Fans out there! Pardon my insolence!

lol! don't worry. he is not available until 2011 anyway. it is not outside of the realm of possibility to get bosh AND bron/wade. i think bosh would relish the role more than a wade/bron pairing would.

would really be nice to dump contracts, I get it.....but it would also cushion to blow (of adding career losers like TT, Cat etc.) if we got some (even one) decent young prospect like Gordon, Bellinelli

He's going to have to play first before another team values him more than an expiring, unfortunately... but I'm with you. I would have loved to hear he was skinny enough to get kicked out of the Madison Square Garden doors.

yeah, if that happens I'll be happy with the deal, because at least then the games aren't completely meaningless... we can see how that prospect(s) and Chandler develop

In these blockbuster deals, minor players and picks are often left out of the intial leak.

I.e. in Isiah's deals, we often ended up giving up picks we had no idea about at the very end.

there was never any cap room if they didn't trade Zach.
