Posted by 4949: Those seem to be Marbury-specific quotes. ..while the Knicks would prefer to part ways with the problematic point guard, it is believed that Garden chairman James Dolan does not want to pay Marbury his full salary just to waive him and let him play for another team this season. Nowhere does it say he would not buy out any player. He may not want to, but I don't see a direct statement to that effect. Marbury stands to make 21.9 million dollars. That's a lot different than cutting Roberson who will make 800 thousand. [Edited by - basketballjones on 10-25-2008 18:19] https://

There was this notion that dolan would not allow Walsh to buy anyone else out. And I did see it more in those terms in another article, just as a general statement, but I don't know were to find it. Are you guys done trying to interrogate me for exact quotes? I'll never trust this' team again.

There seems to be more evidence that Walsh is the one who is opposed to buying anyone out.
"I've been doing this a long time," Walsh said in the Post. "I can't remember buying out a contract. I'd try to trade him. That isn't good management if you have to do it." (regarding Marbury) http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3611773 So if there can't be any buyouts, it's probably because Walsh is empowered to make these decisions. I'd bet that Dolan could be talked into buying out Roberson, and possibly James as well, but it looks like that isn't something Walsh would do. He'd rather do it via some kind of trade.
