It's silly to suggest that we have to basically force the coach to be stuck with players that don't fit his philosophy. We got him cuz he's a great coach and he also has a style that has been proven to win games. Just about every player that came to play for him got better under his coaching and his system, so why would we want to move away from that and force him to use players that don't fit, just cuz you may like them or feel they have value.

Also it's fair to say that most really good top tier players can play in just about any system cuz THEIR GOOD! They aren't just one trick ponies. No one said anything about passing up good players, we've been talking about the smaller moves they've been making. isn't the whole 2010 thing about getting top tier talent? The kind of talent that can play in any system.

We all know that this team will need a major overhaul to be the type of team that Mike D wants. We will have to live with moves like this as we clear out a roster that is full of mismatched pieces. The real problem is the big contracts that will be hard to move. Still that doesn't mean that you just sit on lesser players who also don't fit into your plans.

I liked Balkman and had hopes that he would develop his shot, but I can't blame Mike for wanting to move on now that he's satisfied with Chan and Gallo going forward. We'll see how he feels about Q and Jared and anyone else we have for that matter. It's gonna be a long process and this is just the start.

All due respect to Mike D'. Why does Mike D' need players that just fit his system? So if a quality becomes available via trade, free agency or the draft, the Knicks have to take a pass because it doesn't fit Mike D's system. So say an Elton Brand, Emeka Okafor, Dwight Howard, etc. becomes available we turn them away because they might not fit in his god forsaken system. Plus what happens the day he takes off? We have to unload Mike D' type of players because the next coach says you can't win playing in a system like that. A decent coach work with what he has and adjust. I guess this is the problem that D'Antoni ran into with Steve Kerr.

I have 2 words for you: Zach Randolph.

Well, this coach has proven he doesn't give a damn about playing defense, so what's the problem. He is a 20/10 player, a former all-star player. He may not run a 4.2 but he is a low post player, that can hit from the outside. Make it work, Mike D'.

I think perhaps you didn't get what I was saying: you don't acquire players just cause they have talent, ie ZBo.

ok. I missed your point. Yeah, but now we are acquiring players who are not necessarily considered two way players as well. As I mentioned what happens when Mike takes off and your next coach is a defensive minded guy, do we have to start over again to acquired one dimensional players who focus on defense and get rid of chuckers.

Green and jones are gone.

Balky is toast to us. Salary is 1.5 mil.

With cap, thats 3mil.

While we piss money like its cheap beer, somewhere you have to start getting a bit more rational about money. If for nothing else some kind of self respect and gain those around you.

This franchise under Isiah was I think perhaps the worst run franchise in the history of professional sports. At least bad owners like Sterling and Ted Sapien tried to at least turn a profit by not spending money. We game Jerome freaking James a 25mm contract!!!!

Isiah makes Layden look like Einstein!

So instead of cutting Balky who is taking up space we trade him for cap relief and a second rounder.

I hope the kid does well but he just ain't gonna make it here.

Unfortunatly we have Q, JJ1, JJ2, CapBury and ZDumb pulling in big money. Blame Isiah for this clusterPhuch if Balky turns it up, not Walsh. Up until now Balky has not shown much.

You don't go into a new regime worry about your next coach! You take your time and pick the guy you think will do the best job and run the team the way you would like to see it run. Obviously Walsh likes what Mike is about and feels that he'll do a great job or he wouldn't have hired him.

New coach may mean a new GM too and that would mean a possible new direction anyway, so why worry about that? Right now for the 1st time in a long time we have a proven GM and a successful coach and they have plan!!! Just cuz this team won't be solely focused on D doesn't mean we can't win or that we shouldn't get behind what this regime is doing. I do feel that D will be important to what this team does, we just won't be a plodding half court team as is often the case with slow it down defensive teams.

We all love defense, but in the entire league there are only a few teams that are really setup to be defensive juggernauts. This proves how difficult it is to achieve that kind of roster. Just being a pretty good defensive team isn't enough, you have to be a top defensive team and hopefully with some O to go along.

I don't think NY fans understand how bad our situation really is. I still think many see the Boston situation and think that is going to happen for us. They won't say it on the surface but somewhere deep in their bones they can't rid themselves of the possibility.

It will be a long process for us, one littel move at a time. If we make the right moves maybe we then get lucky. Right now the fact that Duhon and Balkman and Roberson are creating such an uproar that it scares me to think what the future holds. How could 3 inconsequential moves create such an uproar. I BLAME ISIAH!!!!!
I just hope that people will like me

By "quality" I am sure you mean "Talent" kind of like Isiah used to do? Just go after whatever big name misfit is available, what a novel idea.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!
