The three guys you have named Scola 27 year old rookie played 8 years in Europe, Ginobli 24 and played 7 years in europe, and Nocioni seven years anbd a 24 year old rookie. These guys have track records DG played 11 games as a 19 year old in the top league. To me that is taking a huge chance and if the 6th pick at 27 years old produces Scola and Nocioni that is probably not a good use of the 6th pick

he's not 27, he's 19 and he has absolutely nothing in common with any of the players you mentioned.

we gave dlee a chance when he was picked and some here wanted Taft or Blatche. I'm all for giving Gallinari a chance. and to those who aren't - guess what, he's here so stop whining and crying and see what happens. i hate to break it to you king but all the whining in the world isn't going to undo the pick.

I dont care about the pick I just wish we would have taken a guard that can shoot it. Past seven years Gasol, Radmonovich, Tskitishvili, Nene, Milicic, Pietrus, Biedrins are the lottery picks from Europe. The two that are good are 7-0 foot tall just saying it was a huge risk to take him.

King1 if I were the Knicks and I took this pick--the first thing I would say publicly is we really love his potential--he is young and will take some time to develop while he gets accustomed to the nBA. If he is brought along the right way we think hes going to be a really good player in the league. You have people who believe he wouldve lead the NCAA in scoring and is right up there with beasley--that is setting up for a fall in NY--that is a big problem--no one really who works for NY lives in NY ---set expectations lower publicly and let gallinari if he can do it play above them.

I agree not attack on the kid. Actually seems like a nice kid. Just has a lot of pressure on him and we will see if they take the Carson Palmer approach or throw him into the fire. I hope it is the first one.

the knicks have set the expectations low. it's guys like you and isles who have twisted this thread into a beasley comparison. obviously he's not beasley. no one here has remotely made that claim but you and isles in a twisted attempt to act like we passed on a bona fide franchise talent. everyone on the board at 6 had serious question marks and risks attached. bayless is a marbury clone with a bad attitude, diamond ear rings, short arms and few playmaking skills that 10 teams passed on. randolph is a skinny, talented kid who has never won a thing and has miles to go before he can bang in the post. he's 6'11" and people are calling him a SF. when was the last time someone was a 6'11" SF? he better bulk up a lot. he weighs 20lbs less than Camby did when Camby hit the league and Camby was undersized for years.

I think the kid is a light out shooter and will play the 2/3 in the league. There is no way he is a four. I think the kid is a hard worker and I will root for him I just hope NYC gives him time to develop.

I don't know about that. Gallinari will be starting from Day 1, whether he deerves to or not. He'll be force fed the ball, allowed to shoot as much as he wants and won't be bothered with any demands to play defense.

I see him averaging around 10-12 points, mostly from the perimeter. He won't be quick enough to get into the paint and will quickly become frustrated with all the charging fouls called on him that he'll end up sitting on the perimeter. He'll be an absolute sieve on defense. Too slow to guard SF's and too slow and weak to guard PF's.

Tell us again what you are basing this "scouting report" off of?

Is this the Isles shock-value post of the week?

Do you really find it that unfair? In terms of players, Gallinari is the new face of the franchise. He'll be given every opportunity and then some to put up numbers and justify his status.

He's not quick and is going to be prone to charging fouls when he ventures into the paint.

You know I wait until later in the week for my "shock-value post of the week". Never on a Monday.

Why is it a bad thing that Gallo will be given every opportunity to succeed? As a rookie and 6th pick in the draft, he should be given that opportunity and it's up to him to take that opportunity and grasp it. I can also list a whole bunch of players who aren't quick and are fine NBA players. I honestly just don't know why you can't wait until you've seen him play some games to base your opinions, instead of taking stabs in the dark from a couple youtube highlights. How come you praise Rod Thorn left and right but on this one you disagree with him? He wanted Gallo and thinks he's going to have a good career. How come his opinion doesnt matter now?

It isn't that he'll be given every opportunity to succeed, it's that he'll be thrown out there regardless of if he deserves the minutes or not. They have to justify the pick. The easiest way to do that is to give him as many minutes and shots as possible.

If Gallinari is getting torched on defense but scores 10-12 points a game in D'Antonio's all-Offense system, it will be played up as if he had a hugely successful rookie year and the sheep around here will eat it up. Guaranteed.

Of course not. It's usually at 5:01pm on Friday, after the Knicks try to hide major news at the end of the weekly news cycle.

No, you even bolded the reason. They have to justify the pick. If you draft an unknown Euro, who Walsh admittedly hasn't even seen play live, with a high lottery pick that Walsh himself says they can't afford to mess up, then you're damn sure they're going to do everything in their power to justify his selection.

If Walsh really wants to justify his selection then he'll allow Gallinari to be played only the minutes he's earned. Playing him more minutes than he deserves can hamper his development in the long run. Playing him more minutes than he's earned doesn't do anything to make the pick look better, thus I don't understand why wanting to justify the pick would cause Walsh/D'antoni to play Gallinari a lot of minutes regardless of how he responds to it. If anything wanting to justify the pick would cause them to take it slowly with Gallinari so that he develops properly.

You keep mentioning Walsh hasn't admittedly not seen Gallo play live like it means anything to anyone. I am guessing that maybe 1 GM saw Gallo play live last year, that's just the reality of being a GM. In fact, I would imagine most GM's don't get a chance like Riles to takes time off during the year to draft prospects live in America. That's why they have scouts, etc.

By your logic, EVERY GM will need to justify his pick by doing just the same as you call on Donnie and D'Antonio to do past the very well known (Rose and Beasely in this case). Both the GMs for Memphis and Minnesota need to justify their trades, other GMs need to justify passing on Bayless and so need to force feed their draftee, etc.

Did Don Nelson justify his drafting of Dirk by force feeding him minutes and shots? Not really.

Danilo Galinari, Loyola MaryMount, Early 90's:

42 points per game, 45% FGP, 16 rebounds, 3.5 steals per game, 1.8 blocks per game.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I didn't realize that all of those franchises were in the same unique position that this Knicks franchise finds themselves in.

The Knicks used the highest pick that they'll have during the lifetime of Walsh's current contract on a relative unknown. They have to sell tickets and MSG ad time to a fan base who want to see that this kid is for real and deserved to be the 6th pick. You think they'll let him sit on the bench and get sporadic minutes as he learns the NBA game?

Sorry but I don't see that happening.

Gallanari would put up numbers in college like the guy from Maryland Sarunas Jasikevicus who played for Indiana and G-State , he would up going back to the euro league.

In two seasons in the NBA HE AVG 6.8 PPG and 2.9 APG
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Funny, I just don't get the 'stiff legs' thing at all.... In any of those clips (which is not much but all we basically have to go on right now) where do you see stiff legs??? Tell me. Why does he have stiff legs----because nbadraft.net says he does??? Come on.... You make it sound like he's playing in a wheelchair league out there or something. This is a 6'8"+ guy that consistently looks to take people off the dribble. I'd say at least 70% of those clips are devoted to him taking the ball to the rim with authority. Now how is he doing that with stiff legs?!?! This looks like a guy who's totally in control with the ball, showing a tremendous handle even going coast to coast on occasion. And no post moves??? Look closer at that 10 min. clip....there's at least one play, if I remember correctly, where he's in the post and scores on some dude with a nice old-school up and under move. I know it's early and he's gonna need time to adjust to the pro. game but I see an eventual complete package offensively. And that's not even mentioning the high IQ, the passing ability and I still say he'll be a more effective rebounder than 6'11" 300 lb. Eddy Curry in time.

If you liked someone else in the draft at 6 better that's fine (I wanted Jerryd Bayless myself). But we hardly got a stiff here. And if he's played in the Big East you think he just goes for 14 and 6???? HA, if I was a betting man I take the "over" on that bet, that's a easy one....

it's funny when i hear some posters stressing about Gallinari's stiff legs & lack of lateral quickness when they were some of the same posters going lilly ga-ga over Kevin Love in the days leading up to the draft.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
