^You do realize this does nothing but destroy the cap and add role players? We wont be able to "add to" anything by destroying the cap and having crap on our roster. We need cap room. Desperately.

in that sense, i'll agree w/u... it does destroy any opportunity to reach cap flexibility in 2010... but i wouldn't call those guys overpaid.

Diaw is overpaid. And after listening to Donnie on Mike and the Mad Dog, Donnie basically specifically quashed this specific rumor very pointedly. He said, "I'm not going to trade a guy who's expiring for two guys who go out four years from now."

If this happens we are back to the Layden era where we acquire cap for high character role players. I feel like I have been around this block before and I didn't like it the last time.

I don't think I would... Barbosas contract is long as hell.

"Our cap goal will NOT be comprised. WE WILL NOT BE TRADING EXPIRING CONTRACTS FOR 4YEAR CONTRACTS. I told Mike all this before he came here."
-Donnie Walsh

Are you guys ready to give these 2 a chance yet?

Isnt this post actually supposed to close this thread for good?!?

I think Nate is gonna be a huge part of this team, MD even mentioned how they drafted him but, heh, traded him to us.

I would in a heart beat. Barbosa's contract is long but good. He's 25, and as I mentioned before he's a lightning quick guard w/ a higher career shooting % than Allan Houston and his contract is about MLE value.

Do you seriously think that coach with this record and ego accepted the Knicks offer to coach the junk we have for another 2 years to wait it off for the King and others? Are you out of you mind?
Who want to waste 2 years of his prime coaching carrier dealing with Zack, Marbs, Eddy, Q, Jeffries, James alike?
Put the rebuilding to rest. Never happened in NY and will never be...

So you endorse trading for overpaid role players simply to rise back to mediocrity and then fall back to our current state after D'Antoni leaves?
Is $5mm a year for a guard shooting 47% averaging 15 points a game overpaid? What game are you watching?

Barbosa is everything you wish Crawford was.

And no Bonn.. I dont care about cap space. Your not getting Lebron or Wade here, your just not. When has a player like that left their team? Ever? The closest is Nash, and when he signed w/ Pho at the time you yourself said "Marbury is a superior player in every facet of the game."

The time for cap space was before we went out anded Curry, Zach, etc etc

We have too many guys for too long.

The best thing is to start aquiring better players, stockpiling picks and good young players, buildint a pipe line and turning around the perception of this franchise and the players on this roster by winning games.

Have we actually been in a situation to see that happen before? Usually the teams under the cap are very undesirable locations. I mean, we have seen stud players change teams before during free agency. With the cap, it slowed in recent years. Go a bit further into the past and you can see some examples.

We actually traded for guys like brad lohaus and the like to get the cap room to sign allan houston and chris childs in one off-season.

yeah Barbosa is nice, i agree w/u... he'd be perfect & like u said his contract isn't really a cap killer.

Ahh, you're correct. I forgot about that! Excellent example.

As a side note, if we make dj's suggested trade of our pick for Carmelo Anthony, then I would be much cooler with making this trade too.

Well of course, you get Melo, you dont go LBJ. And Barbosa and Diaw are really nice pick ups as supporting cast for a franchise player. I just want us to go after LBJ!!!
Until then we will have to pick up some real garbage players with expirings to get it done!!!
