Why would the Knicks want Lee to go out and shop for his own contract and then be forced to either sign him on another team's terms or risk letting him go for nothing? That's a horrible business and basketball move.

Sign him to an extension on your terms (lower salaries in 2010 and 2011) or include him in a trade to get rid of Zach Randolph.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

There is no way you will trade Zach unless you get back an equal or worse contract.

As long as it's shorter and comes off the books by 2010, I don't really care.

We can match any deal he gets from another team or S&T him if he should happen to play for the QO(I don't see him doing this but possible)

Any offer he signs with another team ties their cap space for up to 7 days until we decide to/not to match. They can't offer Lee more than we can. That's why it's important to send out a strong Vibe we intend to match any offer, teams will think twice about driving his price up and tying up their cap space.

Since we can offer 25% of the cap and a greater % of raises each yr 10.5% since we own his birds rights vs 20% of cap and 8% raises each yr from other teams he and his agent may be interested in working a S&T with us if he plays for the QO. It paid off for Curry, Crawford, and Tyson in Chicago.

Which at that time we can still do what you're suggesting... package him with whomever necessary(unwanted salary) to get a deal done in our favor or trade him to the/a team under the cap and acquire pick(s) without taking any salary back... picking up a TE in the process for the amount of his first yr salary on the new contract. The TE would be an option for us to use for a full yr, if we chose to do so or not. It would be like having free cap space to sign any free agent(s) we want.

You could get him for 7 or 8 this year and then 10 or 11 the next. Either sign him or trade him.

Will we have to put you on suicide watch if Lee is traded?
Will we have to put you on a watch if Zach is traded (not that any team would take him, but hypothetically)?

I forgot who suggested it, but a trade of Lee and JJ2 for any decent player with a short term contract and a top-15 pick is a solid deal IMO. We need to start getting rid of IT's mistakes. Curry on his own can probably be traded because there will always be somebody willing to take a chance on a center. Zach is virtually untradeable. So you basically say, Zach is going to be our starting pf for the next 3 years and go ahead and trade Lee and try to eliminate a contract while doing it.
Trust the Process

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Rolling on the floor laughing! (Yes, it was so funny that it deserved the full phrase rather than just ROFL!)
