All of this speculation about who he's going to bring in, whether he's going to keep Isiah, etc, which is based on nothing more than who he's "friends" with, who he hired in the past or who he has previous relationships with. That's not how Donnie operates.

and how does he operate?

Unlike the high school girl the media is speculating him to be. Donnie's not Isiah, who won't hire Patrick Ewing because of who his agent (Falk) is or who is friend (Jordan) is.

1. Larry Brown:

Donnie's not Phil Jackson. He's been with the Pacers 22 years and is buddies with Herb Simon. He doesn't need a bargaining chip for a better deal. If he wanted Larry Bird out, all he had to do was say the word. Instead, he wanted to leave. Does anyone really think he'd use the Knicks to get a better deal with the Bucks? As if the Bucks wouldn't already give him what he wants? He doesn't have a score to settle over the Larry Brown fiasco. Larry's friends with a lot of people in the league. If that was the case, no one would work here. Donnie's not George Karl.

2. Keeping Isiah

Donnie giving him his first job has nothing to do with anything. Where was all this loyalty when Bird swooped in and fired Isiah right under Donnie's nose? His reaction was a far cry from the strain Carlisle's departure put on Bird and Walsh's working relationship. Donnie knew he built a talented young team that Isiah basically alienated and couldn't get out of the first round. I have a hard time believing a guy like Donnie would risk getting off on the wrong foot by keeping Isiah on the bench. I'm not saying it definitely can't happen but I strongly doubt it.

3. Dolan's money

Donnie's not going to come in and allow himself to be Dolan's emasculated puppet for the money.

The relationship that the media is severly underestimating and the only one that matters is Donnie's relationship with David Stern. The same David Stern who has been publicly and privately predicting wholesale changes for the Knicks this offseason. If it were all about freezing some ping pong balls he wouldn't be so damn giddy.

Interesting info on this whole situation nysportsfan....

I for one hope to god Stern gives us some more pingpong balls. I want Rose on this team in the worst way!

Everybody Likes to Hang Out With The Answer Man

Q. Martin - Why would Donnie fill the position with someone who hasn't shown that type of interest?

A. It's not about interest. It's about relationships. After all his years in the basketball business Donnie has established his trusted network of collegues, which in some cases are rooted in Tarheel Blue. With that in mind, is Larry Brown as General Manager such a stretch?

Q. Martin - And if a coaching job in NY is Herb's only outlet, well then, he has done a bad job of marketing himself.

A. It's not about marketing. It's about winning and influence. Herb would look much better if he is was not perceived as part of the problem. In the case of the Knicks his mild-mannered approach gives him the appearance of being afraid to speak up for change. Was he that emasculated or is he simply just a background-kinda-assistant?

we will never know what type of leader Herb is - if he is never empowered to lead

1. knicks will end up with pick #2
2. marbury will be bought out
3. knicks will continue to make expiring year deals
4. knicks will trade for artest + brad miller

only difference is that a more professional and respected man will be making the decisions. knicks fans should be happy and embrace the healing process.

So DJ has spoken, so it shall come to be.

Making a definitive statement before Bonn has spoken is a very poor idea. You should know better than that by now, Evil!

Shame on me. Now, let me predict your statement:

The Knicks will not get better as long as Dolan is in charge.

AND

Eddy is lazy and fat.

Was I close? HAHA!!!

Yeah, Eddy is lazy and fat but you left some things out

Jamal is dumb

Jerome is ugly

Zach is dumb, lazy, fat, and ugly

Oh and Balkman is white

I would love Rick Carlisle here. Nothing against Mark Jackson but I would prefer to have a more tested guy. Rick is not lovable, but he will change the culture here

He must be at least somewhat lovable.

Answering the Anchorman:

Q: Brick, are you just looking at things in the office and saying that you love them?

A: I love lamp

Q: Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying it because you saw it?

A: I love lamp. I love lamp.

i'm leaning towards an assistant (to groom) as walsh is here to call the shots. nba's objective is to save the franchise and walsh has been appointed. this has david stern written all over it. he was practically giddy like a schoolgirl with that quote about the knicks a few days ago.

mjax head coach. ewing on the staff. that's about the best PR the franchise could hope for.

assistant gm...not sure yet. greg anthony? kiki? but someone with ny ties.

there is no doubt that better times are ahead for the franchise.

i also think a big time deal will go down as well...not sure who tho...(my hunch is agent zero or marion)

Why do you think a big time deal will do down? And how will the Knicks be able to pull this off?

D Lee and our lottery pick for Agent Zero would fit perfectly with this organization's desire for instant fixes. His major knee injury makes him a particularly strong candidate for a (sign and) trade to the Knicks.

NYPost Steve Serby With Mark Jackson 29 Oct 2006

Q: Can Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis play the backcourt together?

A: No. They're too similar.

Q; How would you fix the Knicks?

A: It starts with getting guys that you know what you're gonna get every night. When you look at the Nets, there's no surprises. That's why they win. I don't know how many guys you can point to in a Knick uniform and say, "This is what I'm getting tonight."

Q: Isiah Thomas?

A: Put-up-or-shut-up time. This is his team, so the pressure's on him.

Q: Did you go to the Garden as a kid?

A: My dad would take me every now and then. I wasn't sitting in Spike Lee's seats but you couldn't tell me that, because I was in heaven.

Q: Worst Knick moment?

A: The first time being traded. I believe that if that team stayed together, we would have won a championship.

Q: Channing Frye?

A: He should have started from day one. He's gonna be an exceptional player for a long time.

Q: Why will Mark Jackson make a good NBA head coach?

A: Played for five or six Hall of Fame coaches. Also, being an extension of a coach, that's what a real point guard is. That's why it's no fluke that Avery Johnson has had the success he's had [with Dallas].

Q: What one quality would you take from your favorite coach, Rick Pitino?

A: You respected him, he knew what he was talking about, he had you wanting to go out and do anything for him. The best coach I ever had.

Q: How is the NBA game different today from when you entered?

A: Guys are not as smart. When I came into the league, you're talking about people that understood the game and how to win.

Bonn - you are so correct. no one.

The idea is to have more significant hits than swings and misses.
