When I think of UK, in my small, insignificant way, I hold it above a standard of other basketball forums.

I think we should all then hold ourselves to a higher standard on here.

If we can't be compassionate to the real people on here (and they are real, as you can attest when meeting them), then have the civility to remove yourself and come back when you're in better spirits.

It's better for you, and better for us.



* Course if you won't remove yourself, I'm sure Andrew or Martin would oblige. I know first-hand.

Whats your problem with having an ignore function? Lets say it was easy to create or was already created, what is exactly bothering you about it? see, it's posters like you that like to generalize any posters who have an alternate opinion than yours as "haters" that has truly ruined the posting experience for most of the people here IMO... if you can't take people w/an alternate viewpoint, why bother posting on an internet message board? just create your own website called "For Lovers only" & knock yourself out if that floats your boat...

i for one enjoy reading posts from "Lovers" & "Haters" alike because exchanging alternate viewpoints is the whole point in discussing topics on a public forum.

& to Silverfuel, if martin & Andrew decide they want to implement an ignore feature, i don't have a problem with it... it's their site & they can do what they see fit to improve it... i just don't see why it's such a problem for people to ignore people on their own if they don't want to post w/certain people because they're too sensitive to the comments of others on an internet message board.... when i see a thread i don't want to post on, i don't click on it... it's a pretty simple method really.

I see your point completely and I would have been on your side of the fence 10 months ago but it still doesn't answer my question. Why are you against it when you aren't going to use the feature. It's like the "Turn images OFF" feature for people browsing at work! Its not getting in your way if you dont use it. It will get in my way but thats something I am willing to live with.

Given the background of frustration between the lovers and haters, the ignore function would potentially stifle discussion between posters on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of team outlook, strategy etc. Simultaneously diluting both the substance and entertainment value of threads. The marginal value of a reduction in back-and-forth spats is paltry considering that even the most malicious encounters are usually accompanied by basketball talk. In essence, it gives people a lazy option, which I'm inclined to believe many will take, and, more than shielding users from personal attacks, its likely to prolong temporary disagreements and minimize future debate between good posters. Sometimes you have to sacrifice individual options for the greater good and the greater good here is unrestricted conversation between posters, IMO.

Use you brain and ignore or leave and take a break.

Ignore feature will case more discontinuity.

What would work is a self policing feature.

If users deem a post(er) rude/inapproprate they flag it.

Then a bunch can be done from there...

Ban from thread, forum for 24 hours?

I have been baited into "being warned" status. And it reminded me to ban myself.

But in the end, I don't think it's possible.

Programming it may be beyond mandrew's capability.

You mean like a Troll Rating feature? That can just become another Avenue for abuse as you get "Troll Rating" wars where people troll rate posts just because they don't agree with them.

I'm sure Martin and Andrew can program the feature. The question is do they have the time, and do they want the board to have an ignore feature? (I'm also sure they are not "cut and paste" programmers!!!! They will use an elegant object oriented solution, implemented using design patterns. )

Yeah, this guy is the main reason for an ignore feature.

It seems like many have never used a board that has an ignore button; it won't cause any continuity problems. I feel like the conversations in every post are alread disjointed (it's a message board, for chrissake), and an ignore button would only help improve the environment here.

I feel that sometimes a post's negativity can be offensive. I'd be happy if everyone here would talk knicks and not grandstand. As it is, it turns people off from posting (myself included).

Papa, here's the deal. In the beginning I thought you were cute in a naive way; even when you were calling me a racist in every post. But you you've yet to evolve past that. I don't think I've seen a single post from you that was about the Knicks. All you do is come here to complain about the site, and warn the moderators of doom, and bait posters with your name calling.

You say you can debate with the best of them, and you love your knicks, but I've seen nothing from you that proves either. I'm not sure you've ever watched the Knicks, since you rarely, if ever, speak of the players or the team, outside of "Zeke and Marbs". No, you offer three flavors: I hate the site; I disrespect the moderators; I hate the posters and will bait them with personal attacks ranging from "hater," to "racist," to a combination of the two like, "all you guys who don't support Zeke and Marbs are racist".

And you see yourself as the type of poster who should be valued and catered to? You are the biggest troll here as you come not to speak of the Knicks, but solely to criticize the site and the people who post here.

You guys reinforce him every time you get upset over his posts (and you probably realize this already). I happen to think he's hilarious. The guy's been pretty accurate in the past about the Knicks but he's also a good comedian. Just take that type of reply as a comedian doing what he does best.

My recommendation is that, regardless of an ignore button or not, we police ourselves by considering terms like "hater," "lover," "homer," etc, as ad hominem attacks; same as calling someone azzhole, moron, etc.

They do nothing to further conversation of the Knicks, they are used solely to discredit the other poster's opinions.

I understand we've used them so much that they no longer sting, so it sounds like I'm overstating the case, but they're useless and burdensome labels used only to dumb down conversation.
