A winning season is typically an easily determined objective measure, while something as nebulous as a "real fan" is wholly subjective and undefinable.
Oh I see. This really is topsy-turvy land, isn't it?
Isn't it true that no team would define their fans as people who root for them to lose? But somehow that’s debatable here.
I think a team would define a real fan as someone committed to their long-term success, others are just transients and voyueres. This debate here is about the distinction between long-term and short-term.
And I think if you asked the fans of any team that isn't contending for a championship what their goal was for the season you'd get different answers. But here that is supposed to be an objectively defined goal.
Subjective measures like meeting goals or having success are different than "winning".
You are really on a different plane of consciousness. How do I get where you are?
Have we strayed so far or suffered so long that noting the difference between object and subjective measures is now considered some sort of lofty pursuit?
