not much to say. they are watching themselves get bounced out of the playoffs. what more is there to say? it says something about your manager skills if the players are requesting a team meeting. i am very sour on randolph right now. will we survive through the weekend in first place? not likely.

the MGR isn't the one making those ridiculously bad defensive errors on the field, throwing meatballs in the middle of the plate to opposing hitters, & swinging & missing at pitches w/men on base, it's the players... the Mets players have no one else to blame but themselves for their disgraceful play in the stretch run... "best team in NY" my arse... they'll be lucky to make the WC at this rate.

Where's jaydh to tell us how great the Mets pitching is?

It's so good that they're starting pitchers in a tight pennant race that they end up designating for assignment with less than 2 weeks to go.

i'd like to hear his thoughts on the bright future of the NY Mets & how the Yankees have no future again.

No- go ahead and throw your eggs- that's part of it-
We're not going down- say what you like- but this has been a really bad stretch.
DJ- you're right about one Met point- I like Willie- but Met fans will see him as a Yankee same as Yogi unless we get a RING with him as skipper- Game 7 of the World Series isn't even enough- just ask Yogi Berra- People are still second guessing not starting fan fav George Stone in Game 6 with a 3-2 lead (instead Seaver lost on short rest)
Anyway- I do like a pennant race but having my team hit a road block after having a big lead is a collapse, not a race. This sucks and my boys have to pull it together.
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

You're right, but that was more directed at jaydh who seemed to enjoy coming onto the Yankee thread to tell Yankee fans that their team wasn't very good, especially compared to the Mighty Mets.

But you're right. I'll stop.

I do sadly admit that many Met brethren go hysterical whenever it appears the Mets are in a better position than the Yanks. All June I heard people call WFAN and gloat- Guys! Shut up! Let's let the Mets WIN a CHAMPIONSHIP or AT LEAST have the yanks ELIMINATED before taunting! That should be a "Mets rule" like the Man rules.
Let's Go Mets. Back to Basics. In a RACE. WIN WIN WIN.

if the players pushed for a team meeting, then it's possible they feel things slipping away...so willie should get some heat on that - it's his job to control the psyche of the team.

but then the players went out and lost a 7-2 lead to washington after this 40 minute meeting.

crazy situation.

but 1 win can turn everything around. that's the beauty of baseball.

yeah, you are right that the managers are not making the mistakes on the field. however, there must be accountability here. this is a talented team that should win close to 100 games. i don't want to hear about injuries which is part of the game. talk to the phillies about injuries who were without howard, utley and hamel for a long stretch. right now we are relatively healthy except for delgado who was having a down year anyway. this is probably the worse i have seen the national league in a long time, maybe the strike year. and we are endanger of getting bounced before the season started. we should make it to the world series this year with this team so whose fault is it when the team underachieves? if they are making the same mistakes over and over again there is no accountability and the manager must be the one to address it.

i agree that the MGR needs to take some accountability in his team's failures... God knows i haven't been happy w/Torre's use & abuse of the bullpen over his entire Yankee tenure... however, when it's all said & done, it's up to the players to get the job done on the field... all the coaching & prodding to play up to their abilities don't mean squat if the players aren't taking accountability on their own shoulders to execute... personally i think your team is lacking in any real leaders at this point... Wright is too young to take the reigns, & guys like Delgado & Betran don't have it in them to be their team's inspiration IMHO... the guy you'd think would step up to lead them right now is Pedro, but he's just trying to focus on getting healthy again down the stretch... this is the worst stretch of baseball i've seen you guys play since the Mo Vaughn days.

This team has been doing well with a mediocre pitching staff. I hope that they will address pitching in this off season, they need another good starter or two. Another thing is the Mets have to many "swing for the fences" guys. With Runners in scoring position, you need to be more of a move the ball around type hitter. Of course the biggest deal has been errors and the bullpen......sheeesh. I hope that they wake up.

Mets Fans- let's buck up. Too much freaking out is contagious. We're in first place. Let's not root the team into the ground. Watch the game tonight and root for Mike Pelfrey. We're a talented team. The bullpen is too weak to surive so many short outings by the starters- the offence has actually been ok- if starters go longer we would win- that being said - if it's the 7th inning and we have a lead- and we see Mota for any reason tonight- it's not ok. If we get to the 7th w a lead- Feliciano, Heilman, Wagner. ...If we hold on to the division thats how it will be done. How much would a couple complete games Ws help this team! Have we had a 9 inning pitching performance all year? But we really need innings from Pelf tonight- hope he has a good one for us.

I predict the Mets go on a tear starting tonight. If they are championship caliber -- then they will battle back in the face of adversity -- starting NOW.

On cue. I'm in tune with this team. And I feel they are better than they've shown in this sloppy losing streak of theirs. They suffer from overconfidence. But I think this was a wake-up call. There can be no more wake up calls. From here on out, they gotta play razor sharp. Stay on edge. Play with urgency. LET'S GO METS!!! F THE PHILLIES!!!

well, with 11 games left, the mets need to get every victory they can get and build on it. they realize that they can't afford to rest. if they make it to the playoffs, i hope that the team will not tire out.

Breathing Room. We got a tad lucky in that 6th inning. I was pirsed that WR brought Peltrey out for the 6th--I knew something bad was going to happen--and w e were lucky. It\'s too bad Hernandez is hurt after pitching so great all year--because we could use him. I don\'t want Lawrence or Pelfrey seeing the ball again unless it\'s a blowout. I know it hasn\'t appeared this way but we HAVE scored the runs all year--we just dont have the mega fire power to put up 8 runs an inning like some clubs have and we havent been clutch second half of year. Our bullpen has just collapsed which is the big killer.
RIP Crushalot😞

Really tough loss for the Mets tonight-
Late inning devastation and 2nd guessing aside- this was Glavine's first bad outing in a while- he got hit hard for a lot of the game. The Mets can only win with longer outings from the starting pitching.
