Well goes to show there is a team and a system for everybody in the NBA........ doesn't change the fact Brown didn't want him anymore two years ago.

LOL that doesn't change the fact we let this guy go for nothing. If for nothing else maybe we could have obtained a low draft pick or something. I think the reason he was here was because Larry was giving him another chance but then the GM had to start mettling.

Personally don't care why he was here, because he wasn't working here and that was two years ago we let him go. Maybe he has gotten better, but he wasn't producing here. That's why he lost his starting job and he was cut.

It's nice to know we came to that conclusion after his 5th game here meanwhile Curry and Marbury get mulligan after mulligan.

I doesn't matter how good Matt is playing with the Warriors because he was never going to play like that here. If anything I'm happy he got a chance to shine somewhere else.

No Kidding no hard working player deserves to be in this dungeon.

Not to take anything away from Barnes but sometimes its just the right team chemistry at the right time that causes players to play as a group at a high level.

Look at the 1999 Knicks who have since never recovered, and one could argue were mishandled as a result of overvaluing some players on the team, and thinking it was just about getting guys like Eisley and Shandon (other examples of what I am talking about here), both of whom had "experience" and displayed "savvy" on a consistent winner. How about the hype that went into the Issel/Mutombo Nuggets when they beat the Sonics only to have both gone in 3-4 years and the team in shambles until the drafting of Anthony.

I can think of other teams and players that everyone was high on after a nice playoff showing, leading to Toronto overpaying guys like Antonio Davis, and Vince never reaching the hype after that amazing 2001 playoff run where they beat the Knicks and then took AI to 7 games with a series of 50 point outputs. That ruined T-Dot as a franchise and led to some wondering if Canada would even keep a team anymore. It took the drafting of Bosh as well as other key moves to turn the team around.

Fans and critics love to make grandoise statements about players and teams because if one is right you sound like a genius, but somehow when wrong it's a lot easier for others to let it slide. Certainly there have been teams and players that have returned to such expectations afterwards, but I think it is by no means a sure thing, and I hesitate to play this hindsight game about every player that leaves and does better elsewhere. That happens to a lot of NY players for obvious reasons (less pressure outta NYC).

Plus the Knicks team chemistry was absolutely atrotious in 05-06 as was the confusion regarding who was playing, etc. If Isiah had traded for Steven Jackson or Baron Davis he would have been crucified by most here, I suspect.

Hindsight is 20/20.

BTW, I love watching Golden State play right now. It reminds me of the energy from the '99 Knicks, which also led to non-Knick fans suddenly like the team. I have a friend, ironically, from Dallas who beame a HUGE Knicks fan after the '99 run with Camby, Spree, Allan, LJ, etc.

career journeyman matt barnes - a case of right place, right time

just like starks with us.

style of play. there is no way in hell eddy can play that style for more than 15 mins a night so barnes on this team, with our dump it down to eddy offense, would be castrated. as is 70% of our roster.

Just like Jerome James-I think Matt Barnes just made himself 30mm$. Big difference--Matt Barnes has heart and cares--hes the kind of player who needs a good fit but Im quite sure that teams will be lining up to throw the MLE @ him.

Starks is a guy that Nelson dumped and he went on to have a very nice career here - including making the all star team and winning the 6th man award. It happens. Another example is Jermaine O'Neal. After 4 seasons in Portland, he shined in Indiana. It happens. Sometimes it takes a player some time and the right situation to get it.
