>>in Frye's case, i really don't know... he learned under a great college coach at ARI, so you can't use the coaching excuse... he seemed to be progressing well early on last season as a rookie, then tailed off dramatically & this year he's regressed even further.

TMS - Are we confusing "intelligence" with production?

How does one measure Frye's basketball IQ?

What do you think Frye's biggest limitations are - BBIQ, athleticism, coordination, or Isiah's coaching?
Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

All I'll say is nobody ever calls players dumb when the team has a very good point guard.

... and Briggs, what measure of intelligence makes David Lee smarter than all of his teammates?

David Lee knows what he is doing with his abilities on the court and is highly effective and consistent doing so. Dennis Rodman is a guy who had a very high basketball IQ and couldn't shoot a lick. That's why I ahve given EC some props as well--while there are still some things he can improve at---he has played within himself and stays out of foul trouble for the most part. He knows his role--primary post scorer and does it well--effeciently.

Guys like Channing Jefferies JC Nate--there all smart guys in person Im sure--but their basketball IQs are not on the + side. They don't have defined games--they dont know when to pass-- set a pick where to go on the court--that's why they are inconsistent players. Marbury's talent outweighs some bad decision-making/IQ at times--and at other times no.

there really is no measuring agent... you have to base this on an observation based opinion... it's all subjective, just like when people say that Curry's not putting forth a full effort, or when people say you can't use external reasons for why players struggle with their decision making on the court... opinions vary.

One almost gets the impression misterearl makes no subjective evaluations as he watches the Knicks - if he even watches them.

Perhaps for him they're all Knicks, so he likes them all equally: Mardy Collins has no skill differential from Marbury, and Lee works for rebounds no harder than Curry. All Knicks are created equal.

All Knicks ARE created equal

You win as a team, you lose as a team

With that said, my starting five for Miami is

Lee, Frye, Balkman, Quentin and Jamal (ALL relatively intelligent guys in terms of hoops IQ)

Nate got next with Jeffries, who needs to show some positive signs and Cato, to beat on Shaquitta

Rest Marbury and Curry

For Isiah you could use the Turing test. Talk to him and you'll be sure he's a robot.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I agree that the players are not too bight out on the basketball court. The passes the make, the defense decisions and the shot selection(Crawford especially) are all extremely dumb.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I guess I'm missing the sarcasm?

One great game(and let's be real here, this is his one perfect game) and we forget about the poor shot selection. I'll let him have his day, and as he should, but don't call me dumb because I am stating the facts.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I'm pretty sure when people here say our players are dumb, they mean in terms of basketball. With the exception of Nate and Marbury maybe. They come of as retards in general, but I agree with Marbury, considering how successfully as far as having a good life he has had, we really can't rag on him for being of low intelligence, there are different kinds of intelligences, and I personally choose to judge people on how well they did in life when it comes to calling somebody stupid/failure.

Craw comes of as a very well spoken, intelligent guy from his interviews, so I'd guess his at least of average intelligence, of course realizing how arbitrary such an assumption is, but it is worth whatever other pro player impression by a fan are. However he definitely has problems making good decisions on the court.

I don't think being a smart player and a smart person have to correlate. I judge myself pretty smart by way of accomplishment, but when I play ball (pickup games, nothing serious), I'm deficiently not a "smart" player, rather more of somebody who plays hard, and probably makes a few mistakes out there, like most people who play recreational sports.

Anyways my point is, that calling a player dumb, as far as I'm concerned refers to his on the court decision making, not some sweeping statement on how smart he is in general. I seriously doubt BRIGGS point is that David Lee is the smartest person on the team in that sense. While I understand it is is a touchy subject, because there is a stigma in pro sport, that "white players are good because they try harder and are smart, as opposed to black players to get by on athletic ability", this is most likely not the case of this. Everything would be a lot easier if people just said what they thought instead of trying to say something in roundabout ways.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

"Johnny Olaf loves this place!"

simrud - so, in terms of "basketball inteligence", however you want to measure it, who are the "smartest" Knicks on the floor?

Unlike Fredo, who had a smart brother but still managed to do dumb things.
