I'm pretty sure when people here say our players are dumb, they mean in terms of basketball. With the exception of Nate and Marbury maybe. They come of as retards in general, but I agree with Marbury, considering how successfully as far as having a good life he has had, we really can't rag on him for being of low intelligence, there are different kinds of intelligences, and I personally choose to judge people on how well they did in life when it comes to calling somebody stupid/failure.
Craw comes of as a very well spoken, intelligent guy from his interviews, so I'd guess his at least of average intelligence, of course realizing how arbitrary such an assumption is, but it is worth whatever other pro player impression by a fan are. However he definitely has problems making good decisions on the court.
I don't think being a smart player and a smart person have to correlate. I judge myself pretty smart by way of accomplishment, but when I play ball (pickup games, nothing serious), I'm deficiently not a "smart" player, rather more of somebody who plays hard, and probably makes a few mistakes out there, like most people who play recreational sports.
Anyways my point is, that calling a player dumb, as far as I'm concerned refers to his on the court decision making, not some sweeping statement on how smart he is in general. I seriously doubt BRIGGS point is that David Lee is the smartest person on the team in that sense. While I understand it is is a touchy subject, because there is a stigma in pro sport, that "white players are good because they try harder and are smart, as opposed to black players to get by on athletic ability", this is most likely not the case of this. Everything would be a lot easier if people just said what they thought instead of trying to say something in roundabout ways.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?
